I don't know what you mean, you have to use steam to play on any version of CS as of right now. I think you're talking about CS:Source or regular CS, source being the HL2 version.
if i remembered correctly. CS 1.5 was the last version before Valve used the STEAM engine. Does cs:source require steam access?
No,it doesn't,if you play multiplayer.
I play Source along with the old ones with my friends.
Steam is only for online,or networking.
