My sentiments exactly…

Civil War 7. Who won? I did. I'm so glad I was able to completely shut it out until now. I got the 7 issues this morning and read them all…..after Iron Fist #3. And I loved them.
CW: Great. Weird how quickly it wore down to Cap kicking ass. Which is cool, but yeah, weird. Poor Namorita.
CW 2: For the first time in a while, I found Spidey interesting. And for the first time ever, I found FF interesting.
The rest I can't really get into without the ending. And maybe a Thunderbolts spoiler.
! So, I had realized something early on: Cap couldn't win. If he somehow got Stark armorless and fucked him up, it wouldn't matter because it was the government and people behind it. So I guess I predicted the end pretty well.
! But it still hurt. Almost as bad as when I saw Cap get smeared on the floor of that building, back when I thought he'd be the one to die. My second realization was that Tony was right, and not even close to the douche everyone said he was. He wasn't sitting around at the end rubbing his hands together and laughing, he was shown to have honest and good ideas to make the world a better place. The only reason I was against him at all was because the resistance had my favorites on it.
! And as bad as Rogers ended up, I think it would hurt more if he was brought back somehow. Yet….I don't want some loser like Bucky taking his book. If only Jack Flag didn't get his couch fucked by the TB. -
Wow.
That was kinda lame.
! Alright, here's the rundown:
! - They're all warped out of the Negative Zone by Cloak and continue their fight in New York City.- Namor joins in on Cap's side. That was pretty cool.
- The coolest part was Hercules destroying the Thor clone.
- Captain America stops fighting and turns himself in. In context it makes sense, but… if that's what the past year has been leading up to...
- Punisher finds Cap's mask at the remains of the battle. I guess this has some significance.
- Some post war stuff is brought up and talked about by Reed in a letter to Susan; New Avengers are formed, Spidey has his black suit on (for reasons not yet explained)
- There will be a superhero team in every state.
- Tony Stark is now Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- The public apparently gave a very positive reception of the Negative Zone prison.
- Tony and Miriam (lady with the dead kid) are implied to be fuxxing
Yeah…. what the hell. I'm kind of disappointed that this is what the past year has been building up towards.
I mean, it makes sense, and I understand why it happened (Bucc's post makes a lot of good points), but... yeah. I don't know.
-
! Tony was made director of S.H.I.E.L.D…..0.o
this isn't really an ending than is it.
-
Oh yeah
! Reed and Sue came back together, which I knew would happen but kind of hoped it wouldn't.
-
just read it and I agreee
! -the Herc / Thor Clone bit was the best part of the issue
-and I like the fact that it was Cap that had the Balls to surrender whereas I believe the other side would have continued the fight. -
Amazing Spiderman
! May gets shot
Pete's spidey sense goes off and he pushes MJ out of the way, but the bullet hits May
The scenes related to Civil War made no sense IE the heroes looking all sad over the dead clor, as if they havent seen duche robots die millions of times before. As if they dont have a villain robot from the future that dies every time he fights them etc.
! Depending on the next issue, and if they save May or not, this may be a decent storyline. If she survives, black costume is the biggest movie promo stupid shit ever. If she dies, it's decent. That is all.
Btw that wasn't Mjolnir -
Ahhhhhhhhh God DAMN. CW7 was soooooooooooo goood!!! God the action, the ACTION!!! Ahhh I am so satisfied.
-
Btw that wasn't Mjolnir
yeah it couldn't have been because
! it shattered when Herc smashed Thor's robotic skull in
quick question what did happen to the asgardian's in the actual storyline?? Like why is there a need for a Thor clone / what books was it in.
-
I don't really follow Thor that much but apparently he's sleeping in space or something. He may be back later this year though.
I just read it and frankly I don't think it's THAT bad. Sure, it's hardly perfect and afew things were pretty weak and a bit of a let down, but I dunno. I'm satisfied with what I saw and look forward to seeing what happens next. Sure, It may not top 1 - 4 (which were excellent in my opinion), but it's certainly better than 5 and 6.
-
Well, I reread CW7… and I like it a lot more than I did when I first read it.
-
I just read it expecting it to be as bad as 5 and 6, and like I said it was better than I expected. Hardly the masterpiece I was hoping for but a decent ending.
-
The ending was pretty good, but you have to admit
! That the whole Civil War event leading up to Steve just giving up is kinda…. gay
! But, we all knew he had to lose, and this was probably the best way for it to happen. -
What disappointed me with the end was
! How Tony's words, Cap's pause, and the restraining made it seem like Cap killing Iron Man was even an issue. Pretty lame for STARK to assume that.
-

And personally I like the bit with Tony at the end. The way he talks at the end makes me think that hopefully some interesting stuff will happen soon.
-

! Yeah, when I reread it, for some reason it felt like Steve might've done it. Maybe it's to show the readers how far he's gone? I dunno. But yeah, that bit was pretty weird.

Uh, right.
So those past five years of DAREDEVIL, huh?
-
Waaaaaaa Ralph…

So I read the new Batman, and it wasnt a comic, rather a short story (you'll know if you see it) dealing with the Joker, Harley Quinn, Batman, and the midgets from Killing Joke.
If you read this, reread Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum again. It helps. I love Grant Morrison's run so far and I loved this story. -
Eddie Brock is supposedly coming back. I like how Marvel doesn't try to hide that they're fucking retarded anymore. With all of the random and pointless "life changing" crossovers and stupid film promotions.
-
Has anybody else's newspaper been serializing Spiderman comic books? There were 24 weekly books, covering the original story in Amazing Fantasy and then the first eleven issues of the first comic series (usually split into two weeks' installments). My newspaper said that this week was the final issue they were running, and since I liked reading them every week (even if Peter Parker was an emo tard) I was wondering if it was just them deciding not to run it any more or if it any other newspaper it was run in did the same thing.

Huh, I was just starting to get used to Gargan as Venom.

God I hope not. This is the only way I can get classic stories without torrent. And next week was the infamous "SPiderman Unmasked by Dr. Octopus" story. I was hoping it would at least go to Goblin in 14. Hopefully it's just yours.

Buy the esstentials. That's how I get my 60s Spidey fix.
(even if Peter Parker was an emo tard)
You'd be one too if life constantly screwed you in the ass.

Essentials? For Spider-Man, get Masterworks. The Lee/Ditko run was pretty much the only Spider-Man I ever enjoyed.
I never understood why hardcovers cost so much, but what helped me was that Barnes & Noble put out trades of the first four. I know at least I found 40 remastered 60s comics at $50 to be a steal.
-
Last time I picked up a copy of the Washington Post I think it had the old Spidey comics, but I dunno. It's been a while since I picked up a paper.
-

nah id still go with the essentials unless the lack of color is a really bothering you since you get twice as many issues as the masterworks for less than half the price.
and the first 100 issues of amazing was pure gold i defintly recommend getting atleast the two first essentials.
-
The lack of color in the Essential books kind of bothers me. I mean, I read manga in black and white, but some of the old American comic stories are just better with color. They were drawn with color in mind after all. I did buy Essential Spider-Man Volume 1 a long time ago though.
I like my Uncanny X-Men Omnibus a lot, but it was expensive (although still a good deal considering what you get).
-
Yeah, it's not quite the same as how manga looks or anything. I didn't find the X-Men or Spider-Man Essentials too easy on the eyes. Even then I still would doubt it being a bad buy, it's just that Masterworks is much higher quality.
-
Yeah, I prefer Masterworks myself. The X-Men Omnibus collects a lot of the X-Men Masterworks in one huge volume (Giant Size X-Men #1, Uncanny X-Men #94-#131 - I'm not sure how many volumes of Masterworks that is). I don't know when there will be another Omnibus so I'm going to finish the Claremont/Byrne run with the Masterworks volumes.
-
well Cap a masterworks usualy consists of about 10 issues so that would be about 4 in one,
the lack of color in essentials was kind of a turn off when i was browsing in the shop but once i got to reading actualy never bothered me, but i suppose the main reason i love Essentials is that im not a hardcore collector and dont have houndreds of dollars to spend on comics and it still allows me to read decades of spidey comics for under 50 bucks^^.

@Pass:
You'd be one too if life constantly screwed you in the ass.
Probably, but I thought it was lame how almost every issue ended with him sulking. Maybe they should've just given him a break.
-
I think he was a far better character back then, actually. He was a complete loser, but at that time it was for the sake of the plot. Now he's in his late twenties, married to a supermodel, and just happens to suck.
I would have been happy reading his (one and only) book in the sixties because he was popular but not to the point where people stuck his face on every damn thing in an attempt to sell three more copies per shop.
-

Haha, I guess that's true. They really overdid it only a couple times, actually. Does anyone know who drew the alternate covers on some of the newspaper issues? I really liked how some of them looked, especially the Vulture's Return and the Living Brain.
-
Truth be told, I don't like it when Spider-Man was ALWAYS a loser. To me it makes the stories the same. A villain pops up, Peter's life is in the craper, he may beat the villain but his life is still in the craper. Rinse and repeat. I like it when every now and then he achieved some form of happiness like marrying MJ. For me personally I've been far more interested in Spidey since he got the organic webbing and started going in new directions, something I like seeing in long running stories. For example, I don't mind him being on the Avengers because it allows him to mingle with other super heroes, and I love seeing Spidey fight along side other heroes, and because it helped him have new adventures. However I do wish Marvel would cut back on the comics he's in. Amazing, maybe Spectacular and New Avengers is enough in my opinion. To many may end up telling pointless stories that have no real effect on the main Spider-Man "mythology" and could perhaps be used instead to focus on other Marvel heroes I want to see more of, namely The Sentry (I like him. He's an interesting version of Superman if you ask me) and Captain Marvel.
I would also like to mention that I'm pretty pissed about Ultimate Spider-Man. I loved the fact Ultimate Peter was dating Ultimate Kitty because it's something new and different, something we hadn't seen before (Peter dating a fellow super powered character). However after Marvel did the enjoyable Deadpool arc they pretty much dropped it there and then before it had any real chance to bloom into an interesting story element, and rushed him back to Mary Jane. I wish they kept the relationship around for a bit longer and did one or two more story arcs where Kitty plays a major role in his life, like the Deadpool arc.
-
But his life is STILL in the crapper. I have dozens of storylines post Ditko, but seriously, what I get out of them is that he's a grown ass man with "15" ton strength and photography skills, but gets his shit kicked in by guys like the Jester and can hardly manage to keep himself and his supermodel wife from living on the streets. Check out the "If this be my destiny" arc in the old days and issue #538. I'm glad Marvel allows him to age (and finally a strength upgrade) but damn.
-
I liked how Spiderman always had tough decisions to make. Who here can say they've never had a tough decision in their life? Though his new story where he wears the black costume as a reminder of his dark past over does it.
Read CW#7. They couldn't come up with a way to end this story, so there is no true ending to Civil War as far as I'm concerned.
And the initative doesn't interest me in the slightest.
One question about CW#7
! Why would Namor decide to help the heroes?
-
@Pass:

Sue convinced him somehow. The world may never know how, though I can make my own dirty little assumptions.

That's because it's not even a decision. As far as the story goes, he's just an idiot and maybe retarded if he thinks the costume change does anything at all.

For them it's definitely a scheme for more money, but it does make sense. If they tried to wrap every single plot thread into seven issues, they would have failed. And it kinda would have defeated the point of having all these individual series.
Honestly, I'm really excited about the progress to be made. Cap #25 is gonna kick a ton of ass next week, and there's the new FF, Avengers, blah blah. I can't even tell you the last time I gave a damn about an Iron Man storyline.
! To be honest, I don't really think Black Panther had a place in the war either. But yeah, Namor lives undersea and wears nothing but a scaly bikini, he's as irrelevant as possible. I guess there was Sue's sweet ass, respect for Cap, and the promise of having his sea goons smash humans for him.
-
Yeah, I'm satisfied with the way CW ended now.
I've mostly been interested in seeing the rebuilding/aftermath, anyway. So part of me is just glad the whole thing's done.
Though I'm kind of disappointed with the Fantastic Four thing, if it's truly resolved like that. Seems kind of lame to have "Marvel's first family" dramatically break up and then come back together a week later.
On another note: I dunno why, but I never really cared for Bullseye until now. Maybe it's because of the awesomeness in the new Thunderbolts series, but all of a sudden I find him to be pretty awesome.
-
I really like him too. But, I really hope joining the Thunderbolts and being around characters above street level will keep him outta Daredevil. The prison story was the perfect way to break Murdock's ties to him and Fisk.
Reed Richards is 75% of my FF hate, so I wanted him to fall really hard. He didn't, but BP is taking his place for a while, so amazingly, I might even buy an FF comic. I've thought that maybe three times in my whole life, so I guess they're doing something well.
-
So it'll be Black Panther, Storm, Thing, and Human Torch? Huh.
And yeah, Panther's prescence in the Civil War felt really tacked on.
-
I think this was part of what made me start liking Bullseye:
!
-
I had to post this here because its like the definition of hitting nail on the head
Civil War #7: And now, the reason we're all here. At this point, everything that I can tell you about the last issue of Civil War has already been said elsewhere, and I've even taken my own shots at it with Wednesday's 30-second recap, but it bears repeating: This has got to be the biggest pile of nothing that I have ever read.
To its credit, the artwork is fantastic. Steve McNiven's a great talent, and with Morry Hollowell's coloring, this has been an absolutely beautiful book from start to finish, even if he did forget that the Vision's a kid these days. The script, however, fails on every conceivable level. The biggest problem, of course, is that after all these months, with a year's worth of delays and promises that it's only late beacuse while the ending was awesome, they wanted to rewrite it to be super-awesome, it ends in the most poorly-written and anticlimactic resolution of Mark Millar's entire career. It's so wildly problematic that I don't even know where to begin, but I'll just start by saying that Captain America's tackled by a group of emergency workers who might as well be carrying a banner reading "THE HEROES OF 9/11" in grand political cartoon fashion, it's actually less tasteful than when the ghosts of the dead firemen show up in last month's issue of Tarot. And if they hadn't jumped on him, are we really supposed to believe that Captain America was about to decapitate Tony Stark–his friend--like he did to the Red Skull? Really?
Not that I could really blame him, considering the way Tony Stark's been characterized through the whole series. It's not enough that he's a facist who thinks it's a good idea to send out a team of serial murderers to kill Spider-Man, but he's become thoroughly unlikeable as a person. The cheap shot at Maria Hill at the end of the series--which would maybe be understandable if they hadn't been on the same side for the whole thing--just seals the deal of making him a total prick, and I honestly can't understand why anybody would want to read about that guy anymore.
And it only gets worse from there. The idea that this whole huge "event" has led to Captain America bursting into tears at the sight of a few wrecked buildings--in a city that's been invaded by Atlantis, trashed by Galactus, had literal Roman Catholic Hell break out, and had mile-long profanity carved into it with orbital laser beams¹--is only slightly less preposterous than the fact that it leads Captain America, one of two characters who stands as the voice of morality in the Marvel Universe, to quit. I honestly don't mean to go all fan-entitlement on anybody, but Sweet Christmas, Captain America doesn't quit. It's what defines him as a character. And for him to quit specifically in a battle that revolves around freedom is... well, it's crazy.
And that's just the high point, which in itself is predicated on the idea that Black Panther--a master tactician in his own right--thinks it's a good idea to teleport the giant super-hero battle into the middle of downtown Manhattan. And it just keeps getting worse, from the pithy, faux-tough dialogue to the phenomenally trite and poorly-written letter from Reed Richards (who, incidentally, apparently forgot that he's got stretching powers that would protect him from being shot, and that his wife can create force fields), to Spider-Man's nonsensical costume change. The parts that are "good" are only good in the way that all recent Mark Millar stories are good: They're exciting. Who doesn't want to see Namor show up and yell his catchphrase, or watch Hercules bash Cyborg Murderclone Thor's head in? Right on, that's stuff we all like. But it's cheap, and it's easy, and unlike The Ultimates--a book that's entirely based around cheap, easy fun--that's not nearly enough to save it here. Instead, all we're left with is a book that's thoroughly, unapologetically awful.
-
I like how that person knows it was out of character for Steve to threaten Tony's life, but mentions another out of character scene, which I'm assuming was from Earth X, as a comparision.
I've said this times before, but taking the story in all at once and knowing Captain America has really helped. On one board, when Civil War started, there was a gay Canadian guy who was suprised Cap wasn't the bad guy. This kid probably thought Rogers' goal in life was to hunt him down to his little coffee shop and beat the shit out of him with the star part of the shield. A lot of people don't understand that just because he dresses like a flag doesn't mean he's an asshole. He's given up more than a few times in the last decade, even. He does what's right, not whatever he's in the process of doing. If he ever realized he'd crossed the line, he wouldn't just shout "FOR AMERRRRRCA!" and kick the line back in front of his feet.
The Civil War was too long, no doubt. All of the liquids had gathered and boiled over in the brains of fanboys, and when it exploded they were absolutely furious that they didn't get their ending. Whatever it was. What could really happen? Best case, Cap shoves off all the faggy citizens and the rest of the rebels down their opponents. Maybe he kills Stark, maybe he just leaves him unconscious. Then what? They'd have to go back on the run, as criminals or kill every superhero and human associated with the registration in the next fight. Because when something's a law, it doesn't really matter how hard you kick a cop's ass.
Not that the ending was the greatest thing ever (yeah, the shooting and letter were pretty dumb), but it's one thing to be poorly done and another to have an ending you don't like.
-
yep I agree with that side of things aswell so the writers really backed themselves into a spot that the ending couldn't have been good without also being quite bad….sigh
and yeah the Red Skull bit was
! one of the last 2 issues of Earth X, cap in tears saying how he couldn't save the skull ends up having to break his neck to save the world
almost forgot this topic needs more manly badass pics
!
