Anyone read the Impulse comics?
Western Comics thread

No, but hey, Messiah Complex!
-
could be interesting
!
-
Um, well. What in the hell was that?
-
For some reason I think the wording is humorous. I wonder if that's just because I've only seen that page though.
Hey, "Ion!" You're acting pretty tough.
-
Sounds like a manga character.
-
i need to read the world war of heroes or whatever it is, anywhere i can dl it
-
Superman Prime will probaly be that Superman wearing the black outfit in the evil promotional picture for DC.
-
Cyborg Superman's better
-
Anyone here buy Messiah Complex? It was actually a good start.
- Angel and Nightcrawler
- Ed Brubaker has a good handle on the characters
- Silvestri on pencils
- Slow
- D'Armata did the colors
- $4 for a regular issues with a couple of half assed extra pages
Also, interesting to see what happened to Blockbuster, the guy who broke Thor's arm in the massacre.
-
Does anyone follow the Street Fighter and/or Darkstlkers comics? If so where have they reached thus far in the story?

I've only been following Udon's releases of the older SF manga.
I've read a couple of the ones Udon made, but I don't know much about it.
-
Ok
HellSpawn:a Ashley wood collection just spooks me….. just ugh.
-
I bought the Weapon X trade paperback awhile back. I like Barry Windsor Smith's art a lot.
So, does anyone know if there will ever be another X-Men omnibus? If I remember, there are still some good stories left.
-
Omnibus for which era? I'm collecting all the classic Claremont stuff currently. Such a bitch….

I've got the first Omnibus which collects from Giant Size #1 to before the Dark Phoenix Saga. Good quality too. It looks like its out of print now though.
I've got the Masterwork volume for Dark Phoenix, but I want a second omnibus starting with Dark Phoenix.
-
Ah, you're right about where I am I guess. I got X-Men Classics (with Dark Phoenix trade) up to the second Arcade. It's been working very well, but I strongly recommend the Days of Future Past trade if you can't find a better edition.
I hope I'm up to Jim Lee by early next year. I plan on stopping at X-cutioner's Song.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get Days of Future Past.
I've got most of the Jim Lee ones as single issues (accumulated from yard sales over the years). I hope they will be reprinted on better quality paper eventually.
And yeah, X-cutioner's Song seems like a good place to stop.

I love how I constantly teeter on DC's storytelling vs. Marvel's
Right now DC had a strong lead and i doubt that'll change for a long time
-
I need to get up to date on my Batsman.

Personally, I believe DC has stronger story telling and characters, while Marvel is just more widely appealing.

Have they released Ryu Final yet?
-
@Freeman-12:

Don't think so.
So far I think all that's out is:
-Nakahira's SFA manga (volumes 1 and 2)
-Nakahira's Sakura manga (volume 1 so far)
-the black and white original version of Kanzaki's SFII manga (volume 1 so far). When I was a kid, Kanzaki's SFII manga (in colored single issue form) was the best thing ever. No telling how many times I read those.
-

I think DC lacks a lot of Marvel's appeal and that it's a huge disadvantage. I bought the Matt Wagner Batman minis and that was about it for the past five years.
-
One of their problems is they refuse to update a lot of their characters' designs.
I mean, I fucking love Plastic Man. He's probably in my top 5 of favorite comic characters, but he's had the same shitty costume since the 50's and it's pretty bad. And why the fuck haven't DC been doing anything with him anyway?
I realize the retro look is a part of their draw and something their readers really like, but they won't bring in a lot of new readers that way.
-
Plastic Man had a comic like a year ago for about 20 issues. Some things in there were gold, like the Abe Lincon thing. Other things… I don't want to ever see again.
I believe part of the thing is that they tried to change outfits for a lot of the characters back in the 80's and 90's and well... let's just say I'm glad they stuck with the old ones. Recently though they have been updating some outfits. I <3 the new Robin outfit for Tim. And there's.... *thinks very long and hard....
...
...Aquaman! He sort of got a new outfit, old Aquaman is now a horrible monster) and now there is a new Aquaman. Or something...
Ok! DC barely updates outfits, but some only need minor adjustments! Like Batman's! They just screw the colors a bit XD
-
I've got a pretty interesting book about Jack Cole, the creator of Plastic Man. It was in a bargain bin at the comic shop.
I was going to get some of the Plastic Man Archives, but the comic store never had any.
-
Ironically a lot of Marvel character need their classic costumes back.
-
Another thing that bugs me is their fetish for the damn multiverse
Honestly, I never read it, but from what I could gather the whole Crisis thing was a really embarrassing thing for the company. And somehow they still have a strong fetish for all of that multiverse mumbo jumbo; but at least they're doing things with it now.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is how, if you haven't been keeping up with them for the past…. I'll be nice and say 2-3 years (though you'd really need knowledge of the goofy Crisis to begin with) you'd have no idea what's really going on and it'd be really difficult to get into some of the stories they've been doing lately.
That's not to say their stuff lately hasn't been good. DC gets SINESTRO CORPS, meanwhile Marvel has Hulk sucking dick and Tony Stark being a republican or something.

Yeah, in DC you have to know your stuff kind of, though PERSONALLY I don't think it's that much to take in. But, if you know some of your stuff or have been keeping up then the pay off they give to fans is pretty good I feel. SO kind of sucks if you're not following, Awesome if you have been.
Still better then Marvel tossing out a lot of ideas, seeing what bites and running it into the ground. DC at least plans things out long in advance XD Instead of "Oh snap! let's make that person a skrull!"I feel the multiverse is kind of every where, in every comic company. If you really get down to it ever thing in comics has a multiverse, DC just goes right out and says it and works with it.
Money wise Crisis 1 and 2 (Crisis on Infinite Earth and Infinite Crisis) have payed off and on their own can be more widely like then say… Civil War (oh god the hype and the early downfall). I myself highly enjoyed Infinite Crisis, tied up a lot of loose strings while opening up new doors. I also loved that a lot of characters evolved during it. But, while I am looking foward to Final Crisis (especally that Booster Gold preview) I don't feel like th ebuild up is all that great aside from Sinestro Corps and the two good and evil spread DC released.
P.S. 2-3 years is a little too nice ;D
-

Don't even get me started XD
-
I didn't mean to say that the concept of a multiverse is terrible (quite the contrary), just… I dunno, the way DC has a huge hardon for it being part of the main story? I don't know.
-

I like to keep in mind that the multiverse was gone for about 20 years XD
Not to mention Batman actually died before COIE so this does maybe allow for some dramatic changes to DC, now that it's back. I mean come on! There are now 4 people who want to(can) be Batman (kind of). Tim, Jason, Damien, and Cassandra (hopefully).
-
http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/?column=13
! They are killing off Batman. The cold hearted bastards.
-
I bet there will be an arc with 4 pseudo-Batmans competing for his spot
and one of them is actually an evil robot
and then it turns out Batman just went to get a gay new costume
-

If that involves Batman's trip to the gay costume store then we may have a 4th crisis on our hands! I'm sold!
P.S. Also that rumor has been circling the net all day yesterday, supposedly there is no proof and might just be bad bat spunk.
-
well the 1st Volume of the Main Annihilation Conquest is out and the Phanlax's master is revealed
when your taking Marvel and Homocidial Robots that kick ass you can only be talking about 1 person
!
I like where this is going
-
Maybe one day Ultron will finish fighting the Avengers.
-
Some other long away Marvel characters made their return
!
! yes the guy in Black is Adam Warlock -
There we go! That's something Marvel is doing right! Annihilation!
-
That space stuff bores me to tears.
Marvel's always had a great street level. DC's street heroes are all variations of Batman, the human that beats Superman.
-
Another turnoff from Marvel is how SPIDER-MAN is their main breadwinner
I mean fuck
Spider-Man
I don't like Spider-Man
-
I don't read much space stuff, but I've always loved anything by Jim Starlin.
His Adam Warlock and Silver Surfer stuff. And I'm not even really a Silver Surfer fan, but those issues were great. Mostly because of Thanos and leading up to the Infinity Gauntlet.
-
The space stuff is kind of hit of miss for me
I hate Surfer and Adam Warlock, but I like Ronan the Accuser and Thanos.
And one of them is dead.
-
I thought Silver Surfer: Requiem was a pretty cool mini series. Surfer isn't my favourite character but I enjoyed it none the less.
-
and in other Marvel news
! Black Bolt is a Skrull
-
Do you think that'll have anything to do with
! Silent War and why it didn't matter?
-
I don't think that balls fit into continuity anywhere.
-
Haha, yeah, I always loved how much of a joke SILENT WAR turned out to be
Just kind of tucked in unnoticed with Civil War and Hulk going on
then again it's not like the Inhumans ever mattered
-
I love Black Bolt…. Fuck.... FUCK YOU MARVEL!
and I'm actually looking somewhat foward to Silent War. I mean come on, it seems better then Civil War and Tony and Co are getting what they deserve (again, besides the hulk)!
