In the One piece chapter 595 we see the blackbeard crew has captured Jewelry Bonney and his crew and are waiting the arrival of the ship they arranged. However due to Akainu being on the ship they made a run for it.
However one of Blackbeards quote in response to Van Augar saying Akianu was aboard the ship was "DAMMIT!!! I DIDN'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN YET!!!"
This raised an eyebrow for me as he might have been waiting for the right time to get a hold of a devastating power such as magma.

I did think of this, but then I thought Akainu would be out numbered by the blackbeard pirates 10 to one, but Akainu could have brought a strong squad of marines, not anyone marine can simply go to the New World.

you seem to be forgetting that Akainu is a bad ass mother fucker and even if they could beat him they wouldn't get away unscathed someone would lose at least half there face

Well you need to understand they might have not recovered from the war completly at the time.
Also don't forgot Blackbeard defence is low and he is bad at avoiding attacks both Ace and Whitebeard (when he's fruit was blocked) hit Blackbeard and Blackbeard had to use his crew to beat Whitebeard because he could not get attacks in without them. -
i always thought it was because none of them were acomplished haki users yet or just very few, i mean if all he has to do is do one magma fist at BB (he actually takes more dmg because of his fruit and so far magma seems like the most devistating in up close combat) then everyone else just sits around shooting or stabbing at magma untill they themselves get taken out. i mean only 4 members of the WB crew were able to use haki and so far luffy (im gunna place him at yokono commander level right now) is the only one in the SH that can use haki as of now. i think haki is alot more rare then oda makes it out to be people seem to think that just because we saw the amazons use it its alot more common then it really is

No. He just didn't want to fight Akainu yet, same as he didn't want to fight Shanks yet.

He absorbed a Paramecia power - I am not sure if he could absorb another Logia ability considering he is already a Logia user - we still know little about DF and their abilities. If he was to absorb a 3rd one it might be more likely to be a Zoan to flesh out all 3 types if he can absorb any more.
