Mattel One Piece Figures (PICTURES!!!)

Most of us are aware of Mattel grabbing the One Piece figure license and now prototype images are floating around.

Figures -

Super Punch Luffy

And my personal favorite… Or should I say the only one I like.

Odd choices for figures, very odd choices, but the Kreig figure looks badass, I'll actually buy that… The others... No, they're not very good, not to mention I have the awesome Bandai figures.

They look remarkably cheap and shiny. Perhaps the shine is to distract people from how crummy they look.

I agree with Zio… they look to be very poorly done. I hate the expressions on Luffy and Krieg's faces.

But, the Zoro-esque skull and crossbones at the bottom of the case is pretty nifty.

Zoro wont have to worry about losing his swords since they seem to be super glued to his palms. Why do the Zatchbell toys look so much better than the One piece toys!

No Nami? At least she's a more exciting role model for girls than Barbie, if still equally strange proportions.

I can see the prototypes not made from the same plastic; I know they use different material and techniques for one-offs in other industries sometimes. Still, most toys are shiny.

There are matte coatings you can apply to resolve this though (at least they work for plastic models)

Sheesh, how did Zoro get that nasty tumour on the inside of his hand (the second site pic shows a Zoro figure where the swords apparently snap into a prong)_

Anyways, the figures are ok for Mattel ones. But they should've made a Usopp and a Nami as well. I guess they will be in series 2.

Yeah… I didn't understand that choice myself...

And having a variant in the first series of a toy line doesn't hold much promise for it's future.

If this keeps up the next series should look something like this.

I wonder why does One Piece which Oda works so hard in creating have to deserve all of this stuffering? Was One Piece meant to be a screw-ups for 4kids? Maybe One Piece can just rot and have 4kids shut down

That sword in his mouth is the proof that he's Zolo, not Zoro. He got his tongue cut long ago and lost the ability to pronounce the letter R correctly. And now we know why!

Btw, of all the cool villains in the series, and they chose KRIEG? They really don't want "our kind of revenue", do they?

Yeah, the Krieg choice is strange.

Perhaps cos they're doing a Sanji and need an appropriate villian, but if they introduced any later villian (Arlong, any of the Baroque Works), they'd need a Nami, which doesn't seem to be in the plan.

You honestly don't mean that do you? Just look at his face! That's not Krieg! >=( At least not the Krieg I know. He looks too happy pappy! Alabasta Zolo looks like his nose got disfigured in a fist fight too and eyes are completely off. He looks like he's constipated. I'll look at the others tommorrow.

As for the choices: Alabasta Zolo came out of nowhere but I appriciate Krieg bigtime. He's a welcome change of pace. But so far, he looks to be the only villain. Where's Arlong, Buggy and half the other more popular villains? Hell, Buggy should've been a given from the start!

I'm hoping that the next figures they do include Arlong, Robin, Crocodile, Nami, Ussop, Chopper and hell maybe someone else even more obscure. (Bon Clay anybody?) Provided they'd get them done decently in the future. Not that matters: I'd kill for even a crappy version of Vivi or Daz Bonez or whatever Mr. 1's real name is. (I always have trouble remembering it properly)

EDIT: What the hell kind of Luffy figurine is THAT?! Christ, and I thought Luffy's Grand Battle character model looked ugly. That's just…...creepy.

I had a look at some extra shots of the OP figures at figures.com. Shots of the packaging look very interesting.

Specifically, "collect them all" over a set of pictures which INCLUDES Nami (Nami, Sanji, Zoro, and two Luffys) – but not Krieg. Perhaps the packaging sample is a dummy (with the actual product photos to be included when available), but if not, this is pleasing.

Over 50 pics of the same samples we saw in the start of the thread in the whole gallery, but does anyone really NEED to see Krieg more than once?

Unless those shown before are mockups or prototypes, it surprises me heavily if they'd drop the Krieg figure.

They always say of plastic models "The first one costs $250,000, the second one costs 14 cents."– most of the cost is in tooling. Even if it sells poorly, I'd expect they'd want to recover some of their expense in tooling.

Kuro action figure… If there's one of them, I'll buy it. And the Sanji. And they can mate and have beautiful ninja babies. < 3

As for the others... I'll have to wait until I see them in stores before I make a decision.

The luffy figures look kind of weird, but I think the other ones look good. I'd probably buy them on clearance..which would probably happen pretty fast, since nobody else here seems to like them.

If they made even poor quality examples of my favourites, I could consider buying them. Even a spectaculame Chaser figure at 7 dollars beats a magnificent POP Smoker at 3500 yen in my book. Plus, they could well have done the ones which haven't been done in the foreign ranges– any of the Fishmen, for example, or a cool Buggy.

Sadly, they failed wildly.

The only character I see confirmed I might consider is Sanji, and even then, I find Usopp has grown on me a lot since I came here, and read the manga, and I'd sort of prefer him. His eyes aren't always creepily turning into hearts.

Aside: I've seen "blank" (no clothing, unstyled hair) dolls, why not "blank" action figures to make your own? I don't think any of the standard dolls has a proper build for any of Oda's characters.

There actually is something like that. I forgot the name, but there's some mail-order company that can give you blank action figures. They can even create a custom action figures with your actual likeness.
