The fact that toei refuses to anime the cover stories speaks volumes about how little they care about the quality of the story pacing. When the author goes through the the trouble of writing a story within the story full of cannon characters, events, and locations, basically handing toei filler material and they instead decide to show us buggy urinating onto a wall for a full minute⦠there's just no hope.
482: ''The Power that Burns Even Fire - Akainu's Fierce Assault''

-
The fact that they didn't at least do Enel's, arguably the most important in overall plot, speaks volumes.
-
@Yonkou#3:
I used to be LOBSTER POT STICKER round these parts.
Noted. .
-
it took you that long?
-
Saying you are a "true fan" of OP because you watch only the anime and not read the manga makes about the same amount of sense as saying you are a true fan of Harry Potter if you just watched the movies and not read the booksβ¦
some people just have no logic at all :S
-
I was just a bit exaggerating on the two years of filler, but they need a real heavy filler to give some good spacing. The point is, their padding with filler is just killing the anime slowly. I used to look forward to it weekly, and now it's just like "oh, let's hope they at least got this scene right."
This war arc had potential to be epically amazing. Instead, I don't ever plan on rewatching any of the episodes. Unlike many of OP's earlier episodes which are just amazing from start to finish.
I'm only really upset because I've seen how good OP used to be with their pace, and now it's just a joke. Their filler within an episode is overused and boring.
-
@Yonkou#3:
Shit my cred's totally in the toilet, I used to be LOBSTER POT STICKER round these parts. Ah well, being a good poster is too much work anyway.
In topic related news, does anythone have a Gif of Ace's fisting? I know we dont have the actual motion but just Magma brat with his fist through ace and ace's flames moving is what i'm referring to.
Jesus christ, that explains a fucking lot.
Get banned again you insufferable smear.

The Shocking Revelation! Yonkou #3 is Lobster Pot Sticker!
-
Worst reveal ever. Lobster died from the "Final solution" that wiped out posters like Rose, Garry Potter, lobolover. Then he was reincarnated.
Didn't he reveal that already?

Hmm, Lobster Pot Sticker, Lobster Pot Stickerβ¦

A lot of you guys seem to have connections to Oda's SBS and how to send in fan mail, so why don't some of you ask Oda what he thinks about his cover stories not being animated?
-

Yeah like Oda can publically criticize aspects of his media empire he unwittingly created.
-
A lot of you guys seem to have connections to Oda's SBS and how to send in fan mail, so why don't some of you ask Oda what he thinks about his cover stories not being animated?
Because the SBS isn't that much about the anime that goes beyond Seiyuu or fun talk iirc. There has never been that many large revelations about neither the manga's nor the anime's background. So even if Oda knew something about not animating the Secret Episodes, I don't think he would talk about it. Whether it's about a general "not anymore" from Toei or about a "not yet" from Oda because he doesn't quite know when the characters may return.
Miss Goldenweek's coverstory was more or less unimportant for the Baroque agents to reappear in Impel Down. But at least the "Ano Hito wa Ima"/"What happened to them" was partially in the TV show⦠When Crocus was shown along Laboum Iceburg's casting for a new assistant was shown in the newspaper...

And to think all this time I've just had you on my ignore list when I could have been banning you.
Huh.
Oh well, I accidentally got rid of Usopp with a Pushpop yesterday, so I guess you're okay for the moment.

I thought that was known

Yeah he seems really cut up about it though. Are you sure you don't want to like, talk to him about it? :cwy:
-
I don't understand why people would want two years of filler.
i understand that its good for the manga to get ahead, but at what cost. 2 year long fillers are horrible. Just look at naruto. you would basicly just watch one piece for 2 years while nothing really happened.
yes the current pacing is horrible but its better than filler hell.
! i honestly think one piece will get back on track once it goes back to fisherman island. lots of oppurtunity to have small filler episodes with the main cast
-
Yeah he seems really cut up about it though. Are you sure you don't want to like, talk to him about it? :cwy:
I did. At length.
He threw the tantrum and left the forums forever after I'd already explained in several PMs. Just wants a pity fest, hence the creating of a goodbye thread in the first place.
Frankly, I don't want people around that say the sorts of things to my friends that I found out he was saying.
-
I thought that was known

Robby's reply to Pushpop yesterday was pretty awesome.
EDIT: Oh, I must've missed the talking, I only saw Robby's first reply.

Robby's reply to Pushpop yesterday was pretty awesome.
EDIT: Oh, I must've missed the talking, I only saw Robby's first reply.
I assume the rest was through PM, there was no other stuff in the thread. It was pretty awesome, but on the other hand I felt bad for Pushpop cus it was so out of the blue, IDK.
@RobbyBevard:
Frankly, I don't want people around that call my friends the kind of names I found out he was calling them.
That changes things; see maybe I can't be too judgmental. I don't know the full history. I mean there were times even after he 'came back' where I wasn't here a lot.
-
Aww I want to read the discussion now.
-
Robby's reply to Pushpop yesterday was pretty awesome.
EDIT: Oh, I must've missed the talking, I only saw Robby's first reply.
My first reply was inappropriate and stemmed from only freshly learning the kind of things he'd been saying to people.
The rest was in PM.
His leaving is obviously, his own choice.
ANYWAY, that isn't what THIS thread is about, so⦠back on topic, I suppose.

This man speaks the truth at great lengths.
Yah know⦠now that I think about it... the anime's quality started it's downward spiral after Enel left the picture.
Hmmm... must be connected somehow.
-
I remembered that Greg said Lobster Pot Sticker was the only poster he put in his ignore list.
And Yonkou#3 was also the first poster I put in my ignore list and stayed there for the longest time.
It makes perfect sense now. -
he went there immediately for me - thankfully, people don't quote/reply to him as much as they did when he was lobster

For that reason we wordfilter "God" into "Enel". Also it makes reading discussions about religion awesome.
-
It wasn't great. But it wasn't god awful.
I wish they would do what they did in the early episodes.
Cover 1-2 chapters in a episode, and then write a filler arc.
It annoys me that we have a character like Buggy,
who never really showed up in the manga through the war, but is a huge character in the anime.Saying the anime went fully down hill after Skypiea is crazy though. Water 7 was great, DBF wasn't amazing, but if you rewatch 3 episodes at a time, the pacing isn't so bad.
-
I think I am more lenient on the anime when it comes to the Marineford arc. I didn't care for the war when it was in the manga either. I am not a person who watches or reads One Piece for the action, so this long war isn't amazing in either product.
-
I don't mean to be off topic here, but somehow the ending of this episode reminded me of a certain scene in FF7β¦ I (hope not but) expect next week's to continue in such a fashion. If it does, I expect a parody soon.
Also, if this has been mentioned before, my apologies.
-
Two days, people. Prepare yourselves.
-
The Buggy Filler was terrible, but I was most frustrated by the Vivre Card flashback. Really screwed up the pacing of what could have been a redeeming dramatic moment.
I think most of the people watching this episode would know what a Vivre Card is by now.
-

Fixed it for you
And yes, I didn't like the pacing this eps, the previous eps was much, much better. I mean if u dont want to risk putting 2 chapters in 1 episode, at least pad it out with something more interesting. The scene with all the NW captains fighting off those VA comes to mind.
I specifically didn't like how they drew Ace and Akainu's clash. In the manga, we can see Ace's hand was burnt, but here we only know because someone said it.
And speaking of fillers, I actually enjoyed the filler with Brooke trying to blend in with the SH. I am really hoping they would make more episodes like that, daily life in the Sunny, when they're not fighting some Shichibukai.
-
I think you are referring to episode 384, that was great.
It actually goes down as one of my favorite One Piece episodes. One that makes you tear up at the end.
It was sort of shocking that episode was filler,
good enough to be in the MangaSabody was also a pretty decent arc in the anime. Its dramatic scenes were done very good. If you look at some of the really good early arcs, it is surprising how short they were. Baratie, Arlong, and Whisky Peak, these were all very good and very short.
I think Goat Island was a half decent filler arc. It didn't interfere with the main characters.
It is just annoying that in the manga we see Buggy hasn't done much and isn't an important character.
But when the anime gets to it, he consumes 25% of the story. -
Two days, people. Prepare yourselves.
So we end a countdown just to start another countdown .
-
This is how excited I am for the war to end.
I wouldn't mind if they popped in a couple of filler episodes right after the war ended. It would be a great chance for the anime to:1. Show the parts of what Enel was doing after Luffy defeated him. Manga has the material, they just need to animate it.
2. This is a HUGE, MASSIVE, SUPERRRRR, spoiler.
Don't read unless you are current on the manga! A fresh start. I think Oda was looking for a form of reboot with the series when the crew got back together. I mean when the chapter of them leaving together for FI was titled "Romance Dawn" just like the first chapter. It seemed he was hinting at something. Who wants the original "We Are" as an opening after the war and when the crew gets together?
-
I don't, because the last cover of it was really bad.
-
They should call Hiroshi Kitadani to sing a fully new song. Now that would be awesome and appropriate.
-
I wouldn't mind if they just did an updated version of the We Are! SH version for the last 17 chapters.
-
I am not talking about a remix of We Are, but the original. Hiroshi Kitadani singing a completely new song sounds amazing to.
-
Worst reveal ever. Lobster died from the "Final solution" that wiped out posters like Rose, Garry Potter, lobolover. Then he was reincarnated.

No this is the worst reveal ever. I'm not really Lobster pot sticker.
What's this final solution of which you speak? I was around during that time and I remember those guys but i didnt know something happened to make them all banned. -
Less than 24 hours.

I am very much looking forward to tomorrow. My brother only watches the anime and I'm tired of tip-toeing around⦠next episode.
PS - What the hell is that (above) from?
-
I have no idea, and I don't want to know. It's creepy as fuck, though.
EDIT: Turns out it's from Doctor Who. shudders -
I think it's some Dr. who thing.

Which was them all being fucking awful.

Ah Davros is hilarious. He started to sound like Stewie Griffin in that scene. (For non Who fans, he's a wheelchair-bound, blind (he has a third eye) alien that's one of the Doctor's greatest enemies.)
He tried to destroy reality; including himself.
-
I'm only really upset because I've seen how good OP used to be with their pace, and now it's just a joke. Their filler within an episode is overused and boring.
You're kidding, right? The Anime has been fillered here and there right from the start. Remember Arabasta and that recap map they kept using, even the chase across the desert with them encountering all those mosnters that Vivi conveniently forgot about? What about Enies Lobby and the constant overuse of that bridge jumping scene, or the long recaps that re-capped alost the entire episode that preceded it?
Filler padding and episode is a whole lot better than, Enel forbid, diverting from the action altogether for yet another filler arc featuring Foxy. (Poor Foxy, from tricky games master to filler fodder, what have they done to you?)
Not that the filler in the war arc has been good, far from it. The Buggy fillers are dumb and boring, nothing is funny, it's incoherent and insipid. Isn't Buggy surrounded by the toughest prisonders to break out from Impel Down? Aren't they Crocodile level? If so, why do they blindly follow him like lost sheep and keep attributing miracles to him? They would be the absolute last group to follow 'captain Buggy' like some mindless lost sheep.
**Oh, if we get Buggy filler tomorrow, I'm making my signature his severed head. He is the LAST character who should be ANYWHERE NEAR the coming high drama episode.
! If it is interrupted by him anf his flunkies trying to activate the den den mushi, pixellated blood will flow!**
Ivankov filler at the wall, no, just no. What a chore to watch. What's with him having to explain why he's skating aroundon ice avoiding the water? Dumb.
Hancock, ergh, no.
Perhaps if the filler was of G8 level, or if the filler padding was more war action, featuring characters that actually matter in the story, not acting out of character, I think that's the way to go.
! I think that will happen, it seems right. I would, however, love to see them use 'Brand Ne World' again. The theme and title of the song suit the Straw Hats journey to, the New World! I'm still disappointed that the first run of BNW was cut short and lasted all of six episodes. This is the perfect, and perhaps only time, they can really bring it back and do it justice.
-
God, I really hate the pacing of OP anime.
I mean, Toei actually managed to animate some scenes fantastically and I praised them for that, but they RUINED it in the next second by putting ridiculously drawn out scenes or insignificant bit of flashbacks/fillers.
-
They should call Hiroshi Kitadani to sing a fully new song. Now that would be awesome and appropriate.
That's probably the best possible course of action for them to take.
-
Countdown: 3 hours left
-
I don't, because the last cover of it was really bad.
I forgot about the Remix and thought you were referring to the Straw Hat version for a second⦠
