I was very dissapointed with this. I hope next week makes up for it
482: ''The Power that Burns Even Fire - Akainu's Fierce Assault''
-
-
I guess it didn't help we had to wait for two weeks for this episode .
-
I cant even believe people are defending this episode. I can understand not disliking it, I can understand, not understanding the hate. But You have NOTHING, NOTHING to use to defend it with. Any true One Piece fan who defends this episode is a shame to the entire forum.
-
Well, this ep certainly was bad, but it had it's moments. Yeah, that's the problem, only moments… and had tons of awful ones.
But look at the bright side, now we have hair-fixing Akainu. The manga doesn't have that:ninja:

Woah. Chill, this was far, far from the worst episode of One Piece I've seen.
It had at least one bright spot (when Ace is saying goodbye to Whitebeard, and yea, ok fine, Akainu's little hair smoothing moment was a nice touch, and his seiyu was fantastic) where as some episodes are completely, and utterly shite.
And I did actually tear up while watching this one too.
-
@Portgas:
Ok maybe I overreacted up there. But seriously, if Ace dies next week then this show sucks, Oda has no talent and I'm not posting ever again.:getlost:
I'm really curious about your reaction to the next episode.

Typical Nartuard Drama Queen. If Ivachan was real, he would find his master in you. You're simply overreacting since you see that your pairing most probably won't come ever real in the manga.
I do not understand why you guys countinue to say that TheMidnightRift is just hating. He has valid points why this episode and the overall pace/quality of the War is bad and provides arguments.
His "Toei was always slow" is a personal opinion and then it is plain wrong if you look at the early times of OPTV when Toei used up to three chapters for an episode - so it is no argument of any value.
His "too less soldiers on the battlefield" may have a point, but look on how Toei made this up: The Fog of War is in fact an applicable and realistic method of hiding most of the troops so Toei doesn't have to draw them - and yes, EACH frame has to be drawn by humans. There are limits to what a person can do within a week, and each episode contains more than 10,000 unique and new frames.
And - of course - OPTV is censored. Showing a full out war at Sun 9.30am isn't fitting to the target audience. Anyone who has a problem with that may write complains to Fuji Television and Toei.
And his comparing of Marineford to Skypiea and Arabasta is plain bullshit - he must be deaf since anime is picture AND sound as we may have guessed, eh? There was never such a loud scenery neither in Skypiea nor in Arabasta of people actually fighting - only in the scenes where there actually were people shown fighting. In both Arabasta and Skypiea, once the scenery focussed on the protagonists, you couldn't hear a thing from the war but loud WIND.
Oh, and BTW, the war went on for hours. Why should Oda wind that up in less than ten episodes to make haters less whine about bad pacing? You guys want shitty fillers like in Naruto and Bleach which may last for months and interrupt the actual storyline?

Aaaah… Now I get it... you have to act like a Drama Queer to be tolerated as "One Piece Fan".
-
Tired of these buggy fillers!
-
The anime is really seriously fucking up if it's making so many people despise Buggy, because the manga sure never had that effect.
-
It's been quite long since I last came here… Didn't feel well these days, and just wondering if things can be better.
The Episode Director of this Episode is Yoshihiro UEDA (上田芳裕).
He directed Episodes 462, 469, 476 and 482 in this arc. All of these episodes are, I mean, very terrible.
And the Episode Director of the next episode is Hiroaki MIYAMOTO (宮元宏彰) himself, the Series Director of One Piece. I think the next episode will be a good one.
-
He also directed Episodes 462, 469, 476 and 482 in this arc.
462, 469, 476, and 482

469 Should have seen it coming…

How many episodes have you seen? Other episodes that were completely shit didnt have groundbreaking moments that completely affected the flow of the series in them either. And the whitebeard moment still wasnt very good, it just stands out as decent in an episode filled with shit.
Aaaah… Now I get it... you have to act like a Drama Queer to be tolerated as "One Piece Fan".
Ah, now I get it, I say the episode is bad and you can't provide a reason why it isnt. And you counter by calling me a drama queen. No you don't have to act like a drama queen to be a one piece fan, you have to act like you aren't a fucking dumbass with no taste, which is something you obviously cannot do.

Let me put it this way.
It's like if they gave us Perona filler nearly every episode for the past two arcs.
Think of that .
Think !
Should have seen it coming…
That a …..bad thing ?
-
@No:
That a …..bad thing ?
That was the episode that wasted upwards of five-eight minutes on that stupid Hancock filler while failing to close the plothole of where that key she had come from, and topped it off with a very underwhelming, phoned-in fight between Kuma and Ivankov, complete with characters standing around for no good reason while exposition was being dumped. I don't blame you for erasing it from your memory.

Oh God, so it was that abomination.
You're right, it all makes sense now. -

That was definitely the worst episode of the Marineford arc.

Episode 469 469 469
Hancock…
God dammit I love Buggy....
-
Still hate Buggy.
Who wants some Jonathan filler instead? Like commenting on Akainu or something. They know each other (if I remember correctly)
I know it's like poking a rock, but still, I can hope…
-
Buggy is the best! He'll surely end up being a very important character on this war :P
-

He could say something like "oh, hey guy who is supposedly my mentor even though our characters are diametrically opposed".

Well, I'm not that of a "fucking dumbass" to see that no reason would make it into your bashing pighead to change your retarded "opinion" and to make you stop trying to suppress other peoples opinions by calling them a "shame" for OP fans which is utter nonsense… Go on and unload all your retarded rage into forums and insult everyone opposing your meaningless thoughts...
Oda couldn't care less. Toei couldn't care less. Japan couldn't care less. Nor could I. You have a problem with the show. Stop watching. It's simple logic.
If you watch it legally, Toei and Fuji will get it and start to improve OPTV or decide to cancel it. That's how the market works. If you don't ... well, who are you to pull the drama queen?

A filler of a filler? No, thank you.
-

Unless he said it really slow or complicated, it'd be still better than that Buggy filler. I always found that funny how they have almost nothing in common.
He could also play chess and order marines to go here and there. Anything!
Or we could have T-Bone:ninja:
Come on, Jonathan was a good filler character.
-

Not saying he wasn't a good character. G8 is the only filler arc that stands on its own merits, but saying he was a protege of Sakazuki was silly in the first place as he was an unknown at that point. Kuzan would have made infinitely more sense.
-

I'm using chrome.
And where do you do that ?
-
Yeah, it's quite clear that they just picked a name at random. Or it could be a ''respect the man's dedication, if not his actions'' kinda thing. Well, that too would have to be a retcon, given how Jonathan was talking at the end of the arc.
-

I agree with that. Toei kind of messed it up.
Hopefully the next episode will be better. It should be.

Click on the wrench icon in the adress and toolbar -> Tools -> Extensions - IIRC.

lol @ everyone who calls me someone that is bitching for no reason.
If you enjoyed this episode, so be it, glad for you, I'm guessing you smoked something before watching it, though, because its undisputable terrible.

This episode was a piece of shit. And as for you?

@LuffyLuffyNoMi: Ah, hey, simple logic.
If I don't like something, I shouldn't watch it. Yeah, even if it's obvious bullshit. And I didn't see any argument which justifices this excuse of War yet. (And please, do not mention the key animations. Just because a few minutes of 20 is done right doesn't mean the episode as a whole is good.
I enjoyed some moments about this arc, but as a whole it is a total letdown.) -
YOYOYO, it's Ghosty fuckin' Crabber!
-
Well I enjoyed the episode, the later half at least. The first half was mostly useless filler though it did get a few laughs from we with Mr. 3's and Buggy's antics. The ending was excellent.
-
Wow, I was negative about this war months ago and was nearly burned for it. Guess it took a few more weeks before people realized it hasn't been adapted too well. I think this is one of the arcs that doesn't transfer to anime too well, Toei should have just made the war more fast paced and then gave us filler. I really believe that.
With every other arc, the crew is usually in different places and you can fill time better with jokes and transitions to what they were doing on other parts of the island or land or wherever they were. With the war arc, everything takes place within a square mile or so, so what they filled time with, was Luffy running and reaction shots.
Toei made a bad decision by keeping the normal One Piece pacing with this arc. I honestly would have preferred a quicker pace, and then some filler afterward. Watching Luffy run and watching Buggy and Hancock act likes fools… it's just too much. CP9, Alabaster, and Thriller Bark were so much better..... I'm not sure how I'd rank this arc with Skypeia, but I'd have to rewatch Skypeia. .... I probably liked Skypeia more.
OH and what's all this I hear about G8 being the only good filler? Am I the only one that THOROUGHLY enjoyed The Davy Back Contest?! Hilarious!
Edit: I didn't realize the first half of the Davy Back fight actually wasn't filler until I just read about it :P .... who knew..
-
Davy Back Fight wasn't filler though.
-
You guys want shitty fillers like in Naruto and Bleach which may last for months and interrupt the actual storyline?
Actually, yes. Pure filler arcs are looking better and better compared to these extended filler sequences that are interrupting canon episodes. Because then you can really just skip the episode(s) without missing a thing.
-
Also, a filler arc can be good.
-
Yeah, well, I wouldn't want over 100 episodes of filler like Naruto.
-
I would love it.
I'd just skip through it, and when the important episodes came, I'd watch them and enjoy them. At least they wouldn't fuck up the Anime moments then -
Yeah, well, I wouldn't want over 100 episodes of filler like Naruto.
Well there has to be a happy median between the relatively 0 episodes of One Piece filler and the 100 episode fillers of Bleach and Naruto.
This arc REALLY needed a filler arc before or after it, This arc should have been a short rollercoaster ride, instead it's like your favorite rollercoaster going 7 miles per hour….. it's hard to enjoy when going at a snail's pace.
-
@Portgas:
Ok maybe I overreacted up there. But seriously, if Ace dies next week then this show sucks, Oda has no talent and I'm not posting ever again.:getlost:
Killing off people in a story means you have no talent?? Really??
Do you also watch Bleach and Naruto?
-

The problem is that the storyline has become less suited for filler arcs after the crew split up. The island-hopping nature of the Grand Line storyline made it pretty easy to just toss in a new island or stop for the whole crew. My guess is we won't see a pure filler arc again until after Fishman Island, for better or worse.
-
Actually, yes. Pure filler arcs are looking better and better compared to these extended filler sequences that are interrupting canon episodes. Because then you can really just skip the episode(s) without missing a thing.
But that doesn't work with fillers. Whether Dragon Ball, One Piece, Naruto or Bleach… All TV fillers are always put into the storyline that way there are contradicting pieces. Pick them out and compare to the manga:
- Dragon Ball/DBZ: The arc before Goku married Chichi… and then the
- Naruto: those 2 years of fillers making Naruto search for Sasgaylord / Sanbi arc in Shippuuden e.g.
- Bleach: All those filler breaks in the Hueco Mundo and Arranca arcs
- One Piece: G8, Long Ring Long fillers
So it's unimportant whether there are fillers used as "canonical bloat" or as a noncanonical adventure IMHO - fillers are bad anyways, most of them simply unimaginative. But if they don't contradict the story, in-episode fillers are always to prefer since they do nothing but stretch the episode.
And since OP is not about killing off characters, it's good to have at least some (pseudo) funny scenes for the younger audience. I don't care if 16y-20y old people think too highly of themselves while they ignore that they won't get what they want from a TV show that is running on a Sunday morning… OPTV isn't done only for them.
My guess is we won't see a pure filler arc again until after Fishman Island, for better or worse.
Well, but it still is possible. Remember the Strong World introduction in Dec 2009?
-
you can't put G8 next to the Long Ring Long fillers
it's impossible
-
@dirt:
you can't put G8 next to the Long Ring Long fillers
You can… they are both fillers that partially contradict the orginal story.
-
If you're talking about Merry's plight of "one more island/adventure", at least, G8 touches upon it a bit - doesn't give anything away or contradict it too terribly. In fact, in G8, they talk about Merry and fixing her quite a bit.
Unless, I'm not remembering something because it has been a while.
