THE REVIEW HAS BEEN UP FOR FOUR DAYS AND I DIDN'T KNOW!!! DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!!!
MUST. WATCH. NOW!!!
l
I love the part where it compares the prequals to Citizen Kane. And the part with all the camera shots. And… well, the whole thing really. All three reviews are great, and NOT just for the star wars bashing, but because they teach a lot about story structure and movie making in general.
Dissapointed they didn't resolve the revenge subplot though. Guess that's carrying over into whatever he's reviewing next.

I love how RLM analyzes what is happening behind the scenes and is making indirectly the review of the original trilogy.
Plinkett bashes these movies to be like video games. The irony is that the video game adaptation made more sense than the movie itself. Obiwan tries to persuade Anakin to come back during the fight. Whereas in the movie he says he is shit and he will kick his ass and they spend hours fighting.
I have to disagree that Palpatine was stupid in episode 3. In Return of the jedi, he was quiet and felt scary. He did not made stupid grins and did not sound like a moron.
The part with Kid solo made me shiver. True, Chewbaca had zeor purpose in the movie and was here for the sake of it.
The funny thing is, Kid Solo nearly happened.
Just finished watching the review. Pretty much everything I could expect from RLM (which is great, btw). Cumulatively one of the best reviews ever made.
I loved how the review ended with the whole countdown to the destruction of the Death Star music going.

Yes, despite his (often hilarious) psycho rapist acting, he is reviewing it very professionally and pointing out stuff like the camera shot thing was incredible. He also made a short review of Avatar, which was pretty good. Loved the ,,Disney-Eyes''-part in there.
Shits like Angry Nostalgia Critic and Spoony on the other hand make me wanna vomit, so awful…

You did not just talk shit about the Nostalgia Critic.
His reviews of the Trek films are spot on too… and Baby's Day Out is hilarious satire.
I'm really curious what he'll do next.
I'd buy the movie he made, except its a horror film and well, that's just really not my genre.
Shits like Angry Nostalgia Critic and Spoony on the other hand make me wanna vomit, so awful…
Nostalgia Critic is awesome.
Angry Video Game Nerd grew tiresome eventually but still is fun.
They are not the same character or actor.
Neither are awful.
Roger Ebert saw Plinkett's review. To my surprise, he admitted that the review was great and that he was mistaken.
It is kinda cool that an old movie critic admits his mistakes and is still learning. On the other hand, Lucas will never admit BS.
This guy is a great critic and his videos are always fascinating…but the misogynistic rape/kidnapping/torture jokes are like the most repulsive thing ever.

Ah, but the genius THERE is this.
I'm more interested in the subplot with the horrible psycho and the woman he terrorized… than I was in the star wars movies. A subplot that runs for 5 or 6 minutes in the course of several hours, of a movie review.
Because the characters are interesting and memorable, and you want to know what happens to them, and you understand their motivation.
At least, thats what I get out of it.

link to this?
I really don't care about the extended live action bits. I feel they detract from the flow of the review.

Me too. The subplot is, to me, meant to show the audience how you're supposed to build a character. All the while, he's showing all the major mistakes that the Star Wars Prequels made with storytelling, plot, and characterization.
The story bits in the RLM reviews are completely detrimental to their quality, to me.
The critical bits are so strong that the "jokes" sort of put me off when he starts ranting about pizza rolls and extended jokes on things I find so unfunny I roll my eyes.

Pretty sure he meant that he was mistaken in thinking that he wouldn't be able to watch another Star Wars Episode III review, not that he was mistaken in giving it a good review.
Really good in depth reviewdismantling and complete rape with great comedy, thanks for the heads up.
The murdering rapist jokes are always a hit or miss for me. In The Phantom Menace review, they work great because they're unexpected. In Attack of the Clones, they fall flat because you always know when they're coming. Revenge of the Sith falls somewhere in between the two.

I am not so sure. Usually, a person with a giant ego would just ignore criticism (Lucas ).
He seems to praise the quality of the review. If that is the case, he must have agreed on most of the points with RLM.
I read about the Episode III review in SN&R on the way home, and about the Ebert commentary. RLM has my attention.
Like stephen I have reservations about the "character" this Pinkey guy is putting on, so I don't think I'll be watching the Episode III review even if it's "better" than the previous two, especially since the columnist had an axe to grind regarding it. I didn't laugh at the joke snippets either.
I think I'll watch Episode I but the review length (110 minutes?) and the fact I haven't seen Episode I since 1999 might hurt the effect.
This guy has the funniest voice ever.
the reviews are awesome. i would love it, though, if those creepy real-life things around his house/basement would be removed. they are terrifying and ruin the experience. 5 minutes after one of those im not laughing at his comedy, im thinking 'he just showed what was supposed to be f$@#ing his cat.' (see his revenge of the sith videos for that one)
This guy is a great critic and his videos are always fascinating…but the misogynistic rape/kidnapping/torture jokes are like the most repulsive thing ever.
My feelings exactly. I would enjoy these reviews a lot more if he kept the rape/torture stuff out of it.
I don't care if he's putting on a weirdo persona, but . . . . there's a line, dude.
I think like Robby said, the act is part of educating the viewers of what a good plot consists of.
The episode III review, is better and shorter than the episode I review.

After watching a bit more, I have to agree. The creepy parts really stand out and give an unpleasant feeling, which is a shame when the reviews themselves are quite funny, albeit a bit tedious.
Plinkett makes a point about Lucas getting too much credit.
ExgynjB541A
! Kershner: Touched
Kasdan: Honored
Williams: Nostalgic
Lucas: Don't give a shit or Greedy ?

I understand that, but did he really have to choose something like that to make his point? Even if it's "educational" it's still disturbing and takes away from the rest of the review.
he needs to make more reviews and spend less time on crappy gore-fest productions he enjoys doing way too much and putting them in his videos way too much.
The gore stuff wasn't that bad, people. You folks are almost creepily oversensitive.
I liked the Episode 1 review the most, since it introduced the most original arguments. He ended up parroting most of the same sentiment in the Episode 2 and Episode 3 reviews, the Episode 1 one felt the most complete and fulfilling.
It's nothing we haven't discussed here on AP, but was genuinely funny and enlightening at times.
Very good stuff.

its totally gratuitous in his reviews. doesn't belong there. without it, his reviews would be 110% perfect.

He includes an obligatory scene at the end of each part. Easily skippable. The stuff in-between is kind of needed because, sarcasm and repartee aside, his drawl can very easily lull you into boredom.
Sure, I don't think many people would appreciate his brand of "comic relief", I certainly didn't get the comic part, but it was relief. Better than having to pause the whole thing and have to rewatch to recall what he was talking about.

…what? it never lulls me to boredom. made my ears cringe at first, but his logic made up for that. and in the episode 3 review where he out of nowhere says 'i like to f&%k my cat' and then shows us a clip, you think thats needed? I certainly hope not...

I've seen all but one of his reviews and I never had to do any of that. Are we even talking about the same thing anymore?
…what? it never lulls me to boredom.
Impressive.
I wasn't so fortunate. He made the same complaints from time to time, just in different scenes, so whenever he lapsed into one of those cycles I lost interest. The breaks helped ease that tension, questionable though they may have been.
GGBA, could I talk to you on AIM?
I can understand why the bizarre stuff bothers a lot of people, but I find it to be my favorite part of his reviews.
His weird voice coupled with his random murder rants is just incredibly funny to me.
And as Terek said, it helps break up the pace of his videos.

eh….....sorry, dont think so. you prefer to the creepy jared-loughner-jeffrey-dahmer stuff to a logical breakdown of his movies? Phew.........be my guest.

Oh, classy move there. Throw in a reference to a recent national tragedy that in no way resembles the topic just to try and win a point.
Classy.

If it was just ranting or random asides, I'd find it funny, but the fact that he decides to include scenes with actual actors crosses the line for me.

…you ever seen his videos? Probably not, if you think "trying to win a point" is my motive for saying that. Yeah, I'd definitely say that murder resembles the weird stuff he throws in his reviews that he thinks is amusing. You'd have to be really distracted not to see that. How many times does he need to throw in a slide of a bathtub covered in blood? He's only done it like a THOUSAND times...

Along with announcing the review is up at his site, he teases the possibility of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, The Last Airbender, and Black Monster Dicks #2 reviews.
Wait what?
He also calls out that nerd that made 108 page rebuttal to his Phantom Menace review.
Indiana Jones 4 will be kind like the the star wars prequels review. However, it was not as bad as the prequels. I think it will last 40 minutes.
Spiderman 3 would be a great choice because it's the director who has no control on his movie.
He also calls out that nerd that made 108 page rebuttal to his Phantom Menace review.
I can't believe Jim Raynor of all people is a Star Wars prequel apologist. Shouldn't he be busy policing Mar Sara, or something like that? :/
No one's posted this up here yet?

no one really cares about that.
at least i dont. id rather he do more reviews instead of this crap.

It was an interesting subplot, but he really should have wrapped it in the Episode 3 review. It being its own separate thing is stupid.
Bad enough it carried into the Baby's Day Out thing and the hype up trailer for Ep 3.

agreed. i'd be totally okay if he just never did his own stupid subplots and stuck to his amazing reviews. Whenever I tell people about him its always "his reviews are awesome…but there are a few little subplots in his basement that are pretty messed up..."
We've discussed how kind of middling the sub-plot is, but to be fair, it's a decent way for RLM to keep itself relevant until it can target the next major motion travesty, or move onto 100% original content. SW is a pretty easy target - a lot of people who saw the originals had a nagging dislike of the prequels but couldn't put them into words. I'd say it was a case of information overload from the "density" of the three films. Making sense of nonsense is basically what Mr. Piglett did, to the point of the jokes writing themselves when simply pointing out the logical breaks.
But what other high profile targets are there? Michael Bay? Roland Emmerich? Sly? Uwe Boll? None of them are as huge as Lucas nor are they as well known, outside of cults/niches/whathaveyou.
No….don't have one........and why? if theres an issue just pm me.
You should totally get one! Talking in real time is really awesome.
Revenge of Nadine is up.
