hi, i made this thread if anyone ever wants to ask about career choices.
now this is not the usual cliche "i want to be a manga artist thread".

my question is: what should i do??
right now i am a 17 "18 in 3 day" male attending medical university. when i graduate i will become a physician.
i am now in my 2nd year of medicine and i can say im still not enjoying it at all, my mum and dad are both doctors and they wat me to follow in theyre footsteps. I know i am going to finish medicine as i have kept that clear to myself, but i do NOT want to work as a doctor.
Now i know that the medical proffession is very diverse. But i dont wanna deal with patients at all.
So i performed some research, and found that theyre is a special job where i have to be both a physician and a lawyer. i cant seem to find it again, but i want some advice.
If there is no job that deals with the law aspect of medicine and it doesnt need a MD, should i quit medicine and try an find somehing better, or is there another job i dont know about that i can look into

      WHAT!!!

      GO AWAY!!

        Criminology
        Forensic Science
Crime Scene Investigation(the people who get the cause of death and what not)
        Lab Assistant Tech
        Lab Director

Instead of working at a hospital, you work at the lab department in a court house, police building, FBI building, etc.

The degrees vary. It would be best to get the MD, but you could get a degree in Criminal Archaeology, Crime Scene, Law Enforcement, Biology, Chemistry, Anthropology. My older cousin got a degree in Pharmacy, but he's working on going into Law with that knowledge, as there are departments that focus in drug based-deaths.

Is there nothing else you enjoy doing that you'd like to make a career out of?

          It's called hospital administrator.

You don't need to be a lawyer. If you're smart enough to get an M.D., you are smart enough to understand law. If you must earn a degree, an MBA is just as useful for hospital administration and doesn't require 3 over-priced years of law school.

My own career path is IP law, as it pertains to the health sciences (i.e., can one patent an ORF). I don't need an M.D. to do that, an MS or Ph.D. is sufficient.

I recommend staying in the health industry because it's very stable, resistant to economic flux. As a general practitioner you will be overworked and underpaid, your job more or less supplanted by PAs. Unless you're going to become a specialist or a surgeon, pharmacy and clinical lab science are less time and money intensive and will be less demanding work for you.

If he started working the FBI he would probably be shot.

This is the reason why med school should always be very clear at the beginning, letting know the students that they should be there only if it's their dream, what they want. Your story is actually really common, you are studying medicine because your parents want you to.

I have a couple of friends that quit med school after a while, one quit on his second year in order to study something he really enjoyed: music and administration. He is doing really well right now. The other quit after she simply couldn't stand her clinical rotations in the hospital and fainted a couple of times in the emergency room. She was easily in the top 3 in our class, but she was doing it only because her parents wanted her to follow their steps. She is now studying music as well.
You are still early into the career, once you start your clinical rotations you'll know if you can carry on or not.

As for the law-medicine thing, well, hospital administration is more administration oriented although it definitely has its fair deal of law involvement as well. A friend of mine actually got a master degree on business administration before he entered medicine, he actually wants to do the whole hospital administration thing.
There is also pathology, you won't have to deal with patients as much, you'll be working behind the scene making and confirming diagnosis, you could even go for forensic pathology which is even more law oriented.
Radiology is another specialty that doesn't deal as much with patients.

I think honestly that you should rethink your career choice, all the sacrifices that you make during your time as a student are not worthy if you are not enjoying it. You have to love medicine academically, love the idea of helping others, be in it for the economic remuneration (this is still acceptable if you care for your patients), or a healthy mixture of them.

Do you have a dream profession, something you really picture yourself doing?

Heh, career choices are always a tough call. I've studied technical engineering for 5 semesters now and I still don't know if it's even the right path for me. I took it up because I was familiar with the subject and figured it will give me a good perspective later on, but that's not really what your dream job should be about. If you can find something you will find fulfillment in then you are really lucky not many people manage to do that.

Anyway, bartholomew kuma are you only interested in the law-aspects of medicine? If not I'd recommend you look up medical engineering, it's a very diverse job and if you have a talent for troubleshooting it might very well be the alternative option you were looking for.
