So, how long until this show bombs?
Two weeks?
Three weeks?
A month?
Bob's Burgers

It's an animated comedy on Fox. Chances are they already ordered 6 seasons. They'll probably cancel it and just be out of 5 seasons worth of money.

Shit… H Jon Benjamin voices in this? Shit... now I have to watch it.
Or I could just wait a couple more weeks for Archer Season 2.
Yeah, let's do that.
-
This show looks like shit.

Seriously. I can't wait for more Archer.
-
If I didn't know better, I'd think Bob's Burgers was a flash-in-the-pan animated series from the mid-to-late '90s that was Fox's latest attempt to find something, anything to pair with the Simpsons. The animation, the voice acting, the humor, everything about it screams that to me.
-
I'm just surprised an animated series not made by Seth MacFarlane will air on Fox.
-
I guess that barrel's bottom isn't going to scrap itself is it Fox?

It tends to happen every year and each show fails.
Hopefully, it get's cancelled quick and American Dad will move back to it's timeslot.

You just summed it up.
Looks like such a feeble attempt at keeping their cartoon line up funny. All I can do is sigh at Fox for this one.
-
Why not just take up their 2 (or 3) hour block with American Dad?
Problem solved.
-
I still can't believe how good American Dad is. It's gotta have a different writing staff than Family Guy.
-
Based on the commentaries I've listened to, they do have completely different teams.
-
Coach McGuirk voices the main character, huh.
You guys are right. What a fucking waste.
-
Yeah, if anything American Dad has gotten better over the years.
-
So this show is taking American Dad's timeslot? Why is it American Dad that gets replaced? Why is The Cleveland Show even still on air?
-

That would be racist. :ninja:

@HiroVoid:
That would be racist. :ninja:
Except that's not the reason I dislike The Cleveland Show. We don't need THREE McFarlane shows on at once, and lets be honest, The Cleveland Show is the weakest one. Family Guy isn't all of that great either, but it's very popular so it's not going anywhere.
However, I might be biased against The Cleveland Show because it replaced King Of The Hill, which it is not anywhere near the quality of.
-
According to Entertainment Weekly, it's supposed to be really good. I'm willing to give it a shot. I enjoyed Dr. Katz and Home Movies, and I'm pretty sure this is the same creative group.
-
I'm excited too seeing as writers from Home Movies and King of the Hill are working on it.
-
I'm keeping my expectations low, extremely low. That way, if the show turns out to be good, I'll be pleasantly surprised. If it fails, I won't even feel disappointed.
-
I missed the premiere. Oh well, to Hulu!
-
I just watched the first episode. It was…okay. Kind of amusing. I really hate the art style but it's not too bad to listen to while I'm doing something else.
-
Saw the first episode after hearing the commercial for months play on the store tv from where I worked.
And you know what?
It was funny!!
the later family guy that night sucked btw.
-
I saw it too, it wasn't half-bad. I'd be willing to see more episodes.
@Gekko - Agreed on the Family Guy episode.
-
I liked it.
Then again, it was the pilot and I'm hoping they step up their game before it's cancelled.
-
So yeah, I saw the pilot… and I have to say, it's alright. I need to see more episode before I make a better judgment. The daughter with the itchy crotch made me chuckle a little.
-
shame on all of you for doubting one of the guys who made Home Movies (easily one of the funniest cartoons ever).
-
I decided to give this a try, if only to hear H. John Benjamin's sexy sexy voice. It's okay. Humor-wise, it feels like somewhere in between Home Movies and Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil. It was pretty funny and had a lot of great conversation moments, but I think that the writing is way too safe. The worst part of it was the way they treated sex. They danced around the issues as if this were the fifties and they played that entire thing straight. I didn't think there was such a taboo, anymore, especially on a channel that airs shit like Family Guy that makes its money off of very blatant sex jokes. They also treated that entire subplot way too seriously, with no humorous payoff. Still, I have some hope that they can shape up a bit and will keep an eye on this.

Why would Home Movies have anything to do with it
After Metalocalypse I can't trust "by a guy related to Home Movies".
I'll give this a shot since it's apparently not as bad as everyone thought it would be.
-
Metalocalypse isn't bad! It just became bad.
-
i still like Metalocalpyse though not as much as Home Movies or Lucy.
-
I saw the first episode yesterday on itunes (It came free with the newest Family Guy episode according to my brother) and I thought it was a really good premiere. It was pretty funny and really gave a good feel for the characters personalities.
I can't wait to see more.
-
Wow, another funny episode.
This show's looking pretty good so far.
-
yeah definitely laughed out loud more than a couple of times tonight. can't wait for next week.
-
I have to say I saw two episodes and while the show isn't great, it's a hell of a lot better than the Cleveland Show (a testament to Seth MacFarlane's bigotry). I actually laughed out loud a few times.
-
Last night's episode was okay. I wasn't too tickled but the petting zoo lady and man scream-laughing was kind of amazing. :D
-
That episode was nasty. Poop jokes and beastiality is not comedy.
-
Still watching this. It's still not really wowing me but it's not totally unwatchable. Most of the time. I think it's growing on me.
-
Wait holy shit this show is still on?!
I thought it suffered the TV show equivalent of SIDS…
-
LOL the title trolled me…
I thought it was about a fast food restaurant we have here. -
The show have been getting better. And it just got renewed for a 2nd season.
-
Oh man, this probably has to be the most embarrassing thread in the history of AP.
Probably why it hasn't been bumped since… wait, fucking 2011? Ffs guys, you all skimped out on discussion of 3+ great seasons' worth of entertainments because of all the (initially) hilariously wrong opinions here?
I mean yeah hindsight and all, 16-year old me would've said just as dumb (or even dumber) shit about this show but DAMN.
So yeah, Bob's Burgers: Spiritual Successor to the Simpsons for our decade the New Tens. Also a lesson in judging a book by its (first) cover.
-
Bob's Burgers is pretty much my favorite of the Fox's animated comedies now. Tina is my favorite character of the show.
-
And yet to think that back in 2010/2011 people were whining this would shit all over American Dad's shine.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Linda's probably my favorite, though resident psychopath Louise ain't far behind either.
"ALRIIIIGHT!"

Oh man, this probably has to be the most embarrassing thread in the history of AP.
We have MUCH more embarassing threads. They're in the hall of shame.
1)Most of the people who first posted in here four years ago aren't even around anymore, so who are you chastising?
2)It was in fact the latest in a LONG line of failed attempts from Fox to fill the gap. There were a ton of lackluster Simpsons/Family Guy wannabes that only lasted a couple episodes that weren't very good. This was not aided by the fact they at that point had three different Family Guy shows and had recently cancelled King of the Hill.
3)The show WAS weak its first season before finding its voice, but yes, its consistently great.
4)It gets discussed in other threads all the time when it comes up, usually as a counterpoint to some other show. But as a straight comedy series with no ongoing plots there's really not much to actually discuss. "Oh, that joke was funny?" See also the threads for… basically any other comedy series. A lot of them get a couple posts at launch and then stay silent for years at a time.
Even Archer and Adventure Time and Regular Show and Rick and Morty don't get all that much traction except around major episodes and those DO have continuity and plot. (The odd exception is MLP, and even that's slowed down tremendously from three years ago)
So... why did you bump this thread?
-
Yeah I realise thread necromancy is frowned upon, if not a taboo - so if I may state my case:
I suppose the more sadistic side of me couldn't help commenting on how the show's reputation had changed. Yeah, you make great points on why people were, and perhaps deserved to be, skeptical but it's still funny seeing this historical artifact reflect how embarrassingly far people would go to exaggerate their distaste. ("This over American Dad - unforgivable! H Jon Benjamin why have you fallen so low!")
But yeah the bumping's secondary intent was also because I myself recently got into the show. (Long story short I watched some season 5 episodes on an airline flight out of curiosity and now I've done gone and torrented 4+ seasons) As you said about its consistent greatness I was enthusiastic enough to search for all possible discussion of this, which so far has been A) your side note in the Simpsons thread and B) uh… this.
Also, plenty sure that even for a episodic series like this with minimal reliance on an overarching plot and maximal reliance on status quo (to certain extents for each of course) there's still room for discussion for lots of stuff that would look awkward as side discussions in other threads.
Stuff like the surprising amount of heart and effort that goes into the goofball characters (hey, you did say it was the new Simpsons yourself!) to say nothing of lots of other evidence of the showrunner's dedication in giving a large amounts of fuck about the show: music pastiches that are consistently great no matter the genre (BOYZ4NOW FTW!), near-perfect record of stellar voice casting and some others. Lots more others.
Guess what I'm trying to say is that it kinda sucks for all these years we never really got to use this thread as a jumpoff for "proper" discussion, perhaps to also make up for our early sins.

Also, I guess "most embarrassing" was indeed way hyperbolic and someone like me should've known better shrug
