Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL is the name
The series is set in the near future. Yuma Tsukumo is the number one bad boy at his school. Something unexpected happens as Ryoga challenges him to a Duel. When the mysterious entity Astral appears before them a new legend begins.
The anime is to air in Spring 2011 in popular evening slots in Japan on TV Tokyo It introduces the Excess Summon mechanic and Excess Monsters.

I was hoping no one would make a thread for this until 5D's finishes before we have to talk about how this will have nothing on 5D's.
Anyway, if anyone is interested, Janime has all the info released so far here:

The basic jist is this is like a Duel Master/Bleybade YGO ripoff (even though YGO came first) and is combining the original aspects of Duel Monsters (Main character being possessed by a guy without memories on a quest) and GX (a young protagonist in school).
The only redeeming qualities this has so far is that it takes place in actual high school and not a school about card games and the animation quality looks even better than 5D's from the previews I've seen. I mean incredibly fluid.
Well, I suppose I shouldn't judge it too quickly. I made that mistake with 5D's.

We already have cardgames on skateboards in 5D's so I really dont think its going to be "cardgames on" anything this time.
I think the iphones they have on their wrist will play a role in the new "twist" this series will have.

Yugi is the the King of Games and i've also listen about it's new series, which will be out in February. The spinoff series look like a joke
Actually, it comes out in April, thank the lord. We will get at least another month worth of 5D's, possibly going into the start of April as well, totaling around 154 episodes.

Two answers:
-It makes money and supports the card game
-Takahashi is too gullible and he makes designs in his spare time and stupidly shows them to the staff, inspiring a new series.
I am planning to watch the first 10 episodes before completely giving up on it. Another redeeming quality it may have is if the supernatural element ends up being the astral world and that sort of mythology if my guess is correct.

Is it wrong to say I never watched 5 D'S ? Mostly because I'd have to go online for that and I prefer to watch YGO on television when possible ?

Main character wears a red shirt, lives with his mom, father is out of the picture, has a likely plot-relevant pendant, some kind of futuristic eyepiece, and meets a blue energy-being. Heck, even the city in the trailer looks almost identical to the one in the Rockman anime. All we need is a supporting cast including a fat guy, a nerdy guy, a kinda-sorta love triangle, and a scientist authority figure and we're good to go.

Yu-gi-oh! was great when it was an ancient malevolent spirit that punishes wicked people by defeating them in games.
I can't believe how quickly the series turned to shit.
Shit, I remember back in elementary school reading copies of Jump and Yu-Gi-Oh showing me how badass tabletop games could be.
That was a show about spinning tops .
And then it began featuring an android with hurt feelings over his inhumanity as a recuring character .
Meh, I don't like the look of the main character. He looks like the later Pokemon, where the creators had created so many before they have to struggle to make them individual. His hair looks stupid and not cool stupid like Yuugi's. Plus he looks slightly Bisshie.

He actually lives with his sister and Grandmother. Both parent's are archaeologists and may or may not be dead.

Not only is it cool, but has characters who will be as memorable as Atem/Jack/Jou: Aki,Yusei,Jack.

After reading the first chapter on Janime, I actually think I may enjoy this series. I doubt I'll like it as much as the original story or 5D's, but I think it has the potential to surpass GX.
Despite the younger cast, they don't seem too annoying to me as I feared they would be. Shark is set up as quite the dick, the middle school version of Seto Kaiba. And the cast is at least interesting enough despite their wacky designs (something hardly new to this franchise.)
If I had to describe this, it's like a mix of the original manga/Duel Monsters, GX and maybe a little of 5D's in the sense of Exceed Summoning being a new form of Synchro Summoning.
