Chapter 609: "Adventure on Fishman Island" Discussion

So, from what I got from this chapter, after the war, Jinbe returned to Fishman Island but, since he lost his Warlord status, the discrimination was too much and he went into exile with the original members of the Fishman Pirate. This probably lead to the creation of the New Fishman Pirate. Brilliant.

I didn't come to the same conclusion about Jinbe.

Keimi seems to indicate that since Jinbe lost his Warlord Status that he and and everyone associated with him had to leave Fishman Island. The pressure most likely came from the World Government ala the Marines.

In general, I think Jinbe's message is going to denote another meetup spot in the New World.

Also, I would not be surprised if Jinbe has joined forces with the Whitebeard Pirates.

I really liked this chapter. We found out how Fisher Tiger died, we found out Jinbe's not around at the moment, that he's still a pirate captain and there's 2 major fishmen pirate crews now, we meet some mermen and princes, and we hear about this conspiracy that's stopping people from coming to Fishman Island. A lot of things going on and a lot of different factions in play here. I'm really excited for this arc.

When I read the spoilers I was pretty miffed that Oda was continuing the nosebleed gag. However, upon reading the chapter, I must say that I am impressed with how it was executed and it still brought a smile to my face.

To me, it feels as if Luffy has grown the most. I know we haven't been with the Strawhats for too long since the time skip, but from what we've seen so far it feels as if Luffy has matured the most. I'm really impressed with him.

Sanji's tremendous nosebleed and Usopp and Chopper's comments about it (especially Usopp's "this is the stupidest way to die") made the chapter for me.

Ryuugu Kingdom looks very beautiful and awe-inspiring. The mermen princes' design might take some time to get used to. Oh, and hello there, Polchemy. XD Loved the Ammo Knights design. Also someone wrote that the princes might be half-fishmen and half-mermen, and I think so too. They have gills which are a distinct characteristic of fishmen, while mermaids don't have any. And I don't see any gills on that octopus merman (one of Hammond's lackeys), either. We'll see, though.

I have a strong theory that Fisher Tiger or whatever is related to both Arlong and the Shadow boss (who might have been revealed to be Hodi Jones) Great Chapter!! i liked the info about Fisher Tiger being killed via loss of blood =D major Keypoint reveal FTW! i wonder where jimbei is and what the message is =P 3 weeks!! i could barely survive the 4 week break… heck i still havent recovered =P oh well.. i guess its worth it =P Oda tends to give us something awesome after breaks =D

The Sanji nosebleed actually turned into a serious plot device… Ahahaha
I'll never make fun of people who say Nami has Haki when punching people as comic relief.
I've seen serious traits played out for laughs (look at the route love sickness has taken) but this is hilarious. I knew Sanji would be one of the highlights this arc.
However it's more interesting to see the darker side of the fishman island his predicament has revealed. I'm a sucker for little background infos afterall and seeing how Fisher Tiger's death wasn't a natural one but rather caused by racism and hate, it's definitely setting the mood for what is to come this arc. Fasten your seatbelts!
Also the colourspread is breathtaking, love the bright lights (reminds me of fireworks at night)

Of course they are. Every major Fishman pirate was a former subordinate of his, that includes Jinbe.

Hope we get a Norland style flashback with Fisher Tiger. Want to see who injured him so much. Maybe this way we get a clue of who protects Mariejoa. Don't think its the marines.

However, I do agree with those that the nosebleed gag has gotten old. I'm sad because I can't really think of any gags that have gotten old to me, and Sanji has always been one of my favorite humorous characters in this series.

It did lead to a plot point here, but I'm just really hoping that Sanji goes back to being the love cook after this. The nosebleed thing just isn't doing it for me.

And I can't believe we have to wait a whole month for another chapter. o_O Having a "One Piece Christmas" with a new chapter and episode kind of makes up for it, though. lol

As far as we know for now, Only One Piece will have a 3 week break. The rest of Shonen Jump mangas should be back in the next issue (which should come out on Mangastream on the 5th? 12th?)
