After noticing several dub fans posting in the 4kids discussion, I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread dedicated to questions dub fans have about future and current episodes.
Also, I'd like to get an idea of what story arcs people enjoyed most during the dub, so please participate in the poll attached to this thread.

I remember a friend of mine told me to watch it when it was first coming on. But right when they started the rap, I already hated it, and just cut the TV off. Then one morning I was watching part of the Don Kreig arc (I believe it was the part with Mihawk >_>), for no real reason, and somehow I just started liking it. Now, I've been watching all the ones on Toonami I missed.

I read about the dubbed One Piece before it's premere in the September 2004 issue of Animerica. I had seen a few Luffy and Zoro cosplays at past cons as well as lots of imported murchandise. I was curious about this anime so I decided to give it a try. I saw the very first episode (aka Fat Alvida) and I enjoyed it. I decided to watch it every week. It wasn't until the Kuro Arc that I became obsessed with One Piece. I think it was because that arc contained both Usopp AND Kuro, my #1 and #2 top favorite characters. But I knew that I was missing something. I had to find a website that could fill me in on what had been cut from the 4Kids dub. And thus, I stumpled upon Arlong Park Forums. It was here that I learned more about One Piece than I ever bargained for. After realizing what 4Kids had done this awesome anime, my hate for the company developed. So until the day that I get my hands on those imported fansubbed DVDs, I am stuck with the disgrace to anime known as the 4Kids dub.

You should know that you can download KF's fansubs on BT for free. o.o
I believe the DVDs you're referring to are bootlegs, with very bad subtitles. >.> -
My computer is crap. It freezes when I try to download big files. I don't care how bad the grammar is on those fansubs, anything is better than the 4Kids dub! I want them!!!

It's not so much the grammar as the entire production. The video's grainy, the translation sucks, and all the names are wrong.
In movie 1, Shanks' name starts with an X and has twenty seven letters.
Also, they're not fansubs, they're made for the purpose of financing the Hong Kong Mafia. -
I started reading the manga, and checked out the dub when they first showed it. At first I thought the intro was complete crap, but it got catchy after awhile. Eventually I got bored of waiting so long (when SJ got to the Krieg arc), and started downloading the Japanese episodes. Now I'm pretty big into the show. Even mangaged to buy some of those One Piece 5" Figures they don't make anymore.
About the dub, I think if you just compare it by itself, it's somewhat decent. Sure Sanji's voice is crap, but eventually you'll get use to it. Usopp's voice IMO fits the character, but sometimes it gets high (could have been worse). Glad they skipped the Apis arc, not that glad about the whole skipping of the log posse and the whale. At least most of the characters will be known by the time the US game comes out…
I also managed to get about 4 friends into it. 2 of them are pretty much caught up with all the different fansubs.

The first time I saw One Piece, I didn't think much of it. But as it got into the Buggy arc, I became hooked. Up to the Arlong arc, I though most of it was okay, but then 4kids began to cut a ton of episodes down, and now their skipping arcs, and filling the dialouge with painfully bad puns. But I guess it's better this than nothing after all, I wish my computer would download the bittorrent episodes faster though

Usopp with a Pushpop, you could always beg a friend with highspeed to get you KF's episodes. They are great quality, and I would HIGHLY recommend them. I suffered through episodes 1-120 on HK subs- what a difference KF is!

Well, there are the original region 2 dvds. Those are damn expensive though.
And for the record, the HKs ARE produced by the hong kong mafia. -

Also, keep in mind that these have no subtitles.

I first got hooked up with One Piece with the 3rd episode. When I saw the first one I said "Hmm.. It's pretty good." When I saw the second episode I said "Wow. This series is cool." Then when I saw the third episode I was like "I love this show!" After awhile I started downloading subs.
Everything was all for nothing

I recall seeing half of an episode in what I now know is the Morgan arc. Liked Morgan's design. Hated Luffy.
Didn't come back till Baratie, two episodes left.

I don't normally admit this, but the first episode of One Piece I ever saw was in fact the first episode of the dub. :embar: But then I started downloading fansubs that very same day. What really made me curious was a bunch of people freaking out about 4Kids licensing One Piece when it first happened. For some reason I just thought, "I need to watch this dub when it comes out and download some fansubs and compare the two to see if it's as bad as people think it's going to be". I only meant to watch a little. I never expected I'd get so darned hooked on the series (and the manga). I almost stopped after episode 8. It was the Syrup Village arc that hooked me. I'm talking about the subtitled version though, not th subs. The dub version of Syrup village is what KILLED the dub for me, with Usopp's horrible dub voice.
But, I have to say that even the first dubbed episode I watched was enough to catch my interest. I'm very picky, I don't fall into new series very easily. It's a shame the dub just started going downhill into suckiness so rapidly.
