Hello everyone!

We at the Podcast are planning to undergo some major changes to benefit our future.

Please read through the list of changes. Afterwards we want you to answer the questions listed below as well as vote on the poll. We will randomly select five winners to win either volume 32, 33, 34, 35, or 36 of VIZ's "One Piece".

Here are some of the changes we are planning:

• Manga Recaps will be the Monday after the chapter comes out. This will give us more time to digest the chapter, make notes and give a more informative analysis on the chapter. Greg and others will be able to come on almost every week for the Manga Recap segments if we switch to this format.

• One episode per week. If we switched to this new format, it may be necessary to air only one episode per week.

• The News Segment will be news and nothing more. Right now the conversations keep things from moving. With the news, facts are facts. Some things will require analysis, but not everything. This will be increasingly necessary if we do one episode per week. Silly. Silly… silly. Right. Get on with it.

• Anime Recaps instead of commentaries. Commentaries are where we watch the episode and discuss as we go along. Recaps are where we just discuss major points of the episode. Which would you rather hear?

• No more explicit podcasts. It's f***ing stupid.

yes, although i dig listening to it as soon as the chapter is released, i can't ignore how much more in-depth analysis we'd get with greg involved and more time to gather info.

it's fine the way it is, especially if you continue with two episodes a week. there are days when news is low, and the banter keeps the segment interesting on days like that.

Whatever works for you. It's not like there's a plethora of podcast out there talking about One Piece to compete for your timeshare (unlike all the gaming podcast I listen to).

Recaps would probably be better as I would assume most people aren't actively watching the show while listening to the podcast (I'm usually at work myself).

Randomly poking around the iTunes store for an anime podcast. The 2 major ones (at the time) Anime Pulse and Anime World Order were too broad spectrum for me (half the time I had no clue as to what series they were talking about) so I decided to condense my search to anime/manga specific podcast and got yours for One Piece.

Most definitely. I'm enough of a fan that I'll listen any day. Even if I don't have time on the day of your release, there's nothing stopping me from listening on another day.

Would you rather listen to a News segment that was shorter and more to the point, or would you rather keep it the way it is? I agree with others that you guys tend to get a bit too silly during news time. Not that I don't find your jokes as hilarious as always, but I do think it will be in your benefit to deliver news on a serious note, and save the jokes for later.

And I have to be completely honest and tell you I sometimes tend to zone out on some of your longer news segments. Not that I don't find One Piece news exciting, but I think you could work on cutting it down a bit in time and sticking to the point, and only throwing in opinions on the more important matters. Stuff like TV ratings and manga ratings can be quick and to the point.

How long would you like the average podcast to be?

I'd like to see your episodes at 1:30 - 2:00, to make up for it being once a week. Although if it's necessary to cut it down to an hour, I would not be opposed to that.

Would you rather the podcast be once a week or twice a week?

I think once a week episodes would do better for your team and us, the fans.

Having time to digest the chapter will have a huge positive impact on your manga recaps. You will have had time to think over your theories and your opinions may change when compared to the day of or after the release.

Also, having Greg and/or Stephen on as well would be an added bonus. It's always nice to hear their input.

This is the only change I am against. And I'll be honest. Just as I enjoy reading new chapters along with you guys and hearing your opinions on even the smaller details, I enjoy this for the anime as well. While a recap does this to an extent, I would much rather watch it along with you guys as you dissect it.

Let me suggest something else instead. Perhaps you should come up with a better system if you feel there is too much time wasted on off topic discussion. Like, for example, come up with a list of specific topics/guidelines you follow each week. Kind of like how official commentaries do it. And save any extra side opinions for after the episode. Just some food for thought.

How many people do you prefer on the podcast at a time?

I would limit it to four people and no more, with the exception of special occasions (like Strong Cast and the such). Any more than that and things tend to get confusing, with people talking over one another and comments/opinions being lost in the fray.

How long have you been listening to the podcast? I've been listeningsince you released the Mike McFarland interview, and I think it's been close to a year now, hasn't it? A little less, maybe.

As mentioned above, Zach mentioned in the Funimation DVD discussion thread that you guys had interviewed McFarland, and that's what got me to check you guys out. And I'm glad I did.

I hope my opinions help you guys out at least a little. The whole prize thing is nice of you to do, but I really didn't need the motivation to help out with this.

Either one works fine by me. I really only listen to one Podcast episode once a week anyway, (the podcast episodes that have the manga recap in them) because I really like to have the chapter up in front of me so I can follow along with you guys as you discuss the chapter page by page. I can't really do that with the anime episodes, but I also love the piece together section.

Bit of a story for this one. I knew of the podcast since I officially moved here to Arlong Park after One Manga closed down (yeah, I know I joined in April 2009, but it was an account that I forgot existed until around July of this year.) Still, I did listen to one of the 10-15 minute Podcast episodes on Youtube out of curiosity and I won't deny it, my first thought was "WTF, dudes sitting around talking about one piece, this is lame" and kinda kept that train of thought until I downloaded episode 129 from the main Podcast website (again out of curiosity because everyone here on AP was loving it). You guys were hilarious, had me rolling out my bed laughing, and have watched every manga recap episode since. :wub: :wub:

1. Yes, I think it could do the Podcast good to have a longer amount of time to digest and reread the chapter at a leisurely pace and prepare for what your going to talk about. Without feeling the need to get an episode out right after the chapter you'd be able to enjoy it more and catch more subtle details in your analysis

2. Either way would be fine I guess. The length of the News Segment has never bothered me, and you usually report on noteworthy things. My only two cents is to hold off on a segment if all you have are Comic Rankings which are tedious to listen to, and usually differ only slightly each time. You don't necessarily need a News Segment every episode

3. On your site I voted 1-2 hours. Ideally this would be between the two, at 1:30-ish. Especially if you switch to the once weekly format, I think this would be ample time to cover everything.

4. Once a week. Mostly so you guys can find a schedule that works best for everyone involved, and you won't be rushed to produce episodes. quality over quantity, I always say.

5. My personal preference is Commentary Style. It's fun to watch along with you guys, especially when you spot point out specifics along the way. This answer could contradict my Once a Week answer depending on when you decide to record, so take it for what it is.

6. On your site I voted 5. But this is a hard one to answer. In a perfect world I think the max people in a discussion at one time should be around 4, but I like the episodes where you swap "staff members" in and out during different segments are the better episodes.

7. Close to a year now. Added it to my weekly Podcast dosage a few episodes before the infamous "Godcast" and I've never looked back.

This might be weird to comment on since I do appear on the podcast every once in a while, but I wanted to throw my two cents in, since I think it's awesome that you guys are willing to experiment in order to make the podcast better for everyone on all sides.

I agree with Chopperrules about the news segments. Obviously the more news the better, but there are some things that speak for themselves (ratings, sales charts) some that are worth exploring in depth (new releases, movie info) and some that are open to editorializing (news about piracy, state of manga in general, etc). I feel like most people who listen to the podcast probably don't need to know if it's good or bad that OP was such-and-such points behind Sazae-san or Maruko-chan, or whether the latest volume being in #7 on its third week means anything.

Five people seems like the sweet spot, but I think there could be more depending on who is involved and how talkative they are–I also see switching people in and out for different segments being a benefit. Since, outside of special occasions, the podcast is always being recorded remotely and there will always be overlap and people interrupting each other, it is a natural part of the podcast. Sidetracking and noise can be minimized but attempting to stifle it entirely could snuff out the spontaneity and energy of the conversation as well.

Also, quality or attentiveness of the discussion aside, I think the podcast should be whatever length is comfortable for the hosts, since they're the ones spending the most time on this. If episodes are feeling too exhausting and sapping motivation? Shorten them a bit. If there's something you don't feel is being given the amount of discussion it needs, let it run long! I have no qualms about length, and the only time I think I've ever skipped ahead to the next section was in Episode 100 where that guy was shrieking at the top of his lungs during the anime recap.

Although I checked the opposite on the survey, if you're going to be doing the Manga recap on Monday it would probably be better to just do one episode, as the anime episode should be out by then as well. It would be weird to have both the anime recap and the manga recap on opposite sides of the week.

I figure it's not really going to make that much of a difference if you're watching it at the moment you recap. You're going to talk about what's going on when it's going on.

That's entirely up to you folks. If its once per week and on a solid date, I can incorporate it into my routine a lot easier, but I don't mind an extra episode just so I can have more to listen to each week.

I actually do prefer the Commentary Style. Recap style seems like the episode might not be as fresh in your mind and therefore some discussion points may be missed. In Commentary Style, most points will be hit and more discussion will come from it.

As long as only one person is speaking at a time, you could have anywhere between two people and six billion people on the podcast at once and I wouldn't care.

I stumbled upon an online radio station called 91.8 The Fan and noticed the One Piece Podcast being a regular part on that station, but I only ever caught it on that particular station once. After I found out you guys had your own website and I could actually download the podcast episodes, I kinda drifted away from 91.8 The Fan and just downloaded episodes of the podcast.

Well I voted "no"…but obviously I would lol. I just love to get your fresh reaction to the chapter rather than some analytical view on it (plus your fresh reactions lead to awesome jokes and entertaining times!). But I wouldn't mind if you go this route.

Well it kinda it has been like that for a few weeks already, although as just with the first question..banters and such make this area entertaining rather than just "this is what happened, blah, blah, blah…now onto the anime recap"

Between 1 to 2 hours….most of the podcasts I listen are that long (with one exception that is usually under 4 hrs long but is released twice a month usually)

Twice, since I believe is good to focus one episode on the manga chapter and the other on the anime.

This one is kinda tricky…because as we all know the anime is pretty much looking at something you guys already review on the manga. I guess "Recap Style" is better since you guys can compare the manga chapter to the episode and point out filler and such.

I must say I enjoy an episode where the most of the cast it present….or at least the core member (no preference over anyone but this comprises: Zach, Steve, Jason, Ed and Firecrouch...and of course appearances by Greg!)

Personally, I enjoy the long ones were you throw the Manga Recap or the Anime Recap with a lengthy Piece by Piece or Pieces of 8, you guys usually step up your game for the ones over an hour and a half. So really anywere from an hour to two hours is great.

While I do enjoy the longer Podcasts, I still would like you to keep the Manga and Anime seperate, because I am still loyal to the Anime and I like for it to get its own episode.

This is why I love this podcast. Always trying to make things better for the listeners. However, I really wish you guys would keep it explicit. I have always found it dumb to needlessly censor 'bad' words. Its going to make it so that those on the podcast try to censor themselves and that will cause awkward moments. Hell, the voice actors you have on generally list 'fuck' as their favorite word! I hope you guys reconsider that point. Anyways, on to the questions~

Intriguing changes I don't think the explicit is an issue though, imo you don't need to hold your tongues

Mondays: yes, I would listen if not prefer it. A little more time to digest things is good, it would allow for unforeseen chapter delays, and personally it would give me a OP fix for the start of the week.

News: keep it the way it is. Don't force a structured format, you guys are the funniest when you're the least structured.

Length: 1-1.5 hours is my preferred list because I can handle it in one sitting. But if it's only going to be one episode a week, then 2 full hours is fine.

Frequency: Either is fine. But again with the length, if once a week-1.5 hours. Twice a week-2+hours.

Anime: I haven't been listening to the anime decals recently because I'm about a year behind on anime, so I can't really say.

of people: 3-4, 5 absolute tops. It gets crowded with too many, but 4 is a good number. 5 like when something special is going on.

Commentary with a to-the-point discussion of the main points, likes and disliskes, etc. I actually like your commentary. I love Zach's horridly corny yet lovable jokes, Steve's hilarious Venture Bros. and Simpsons references that occur throughout the episode, Ed's epic voices and input, and Jason's criticism. I like listening to an actual reaction to the episode but this is just my preference.
