      @RPGJay:

One of the things I hate most is when presentations are literally read from the powerpoint.

Guys use the powerpoint to HELP your presentation, not read the entire powerpoint verbatim.

The whole FUN in speeches is not having to read off papers and screens. I can't comprehend people doing that, particularly when it always comes off worse.

I liked stats in math for some weird reason

        There kinda fun.

Aside from that I'm kinda bad at it.

Best presentation I ever did was an oral practice/memorization thing for Latin.

I had to memorize a passage from Paradise Lost in Latin then present it to the class. Seizing the opportunity, I promptly recounted Lucifer's fall in my best Tim Curry impersonation while making Master Xehanort-esque hand gestures. It was awesome.

I like stats that can help me view the problem as a whole, provide a visual comparison between each part of that whole.

My favorite presentation was when I had to act like the god Hephaestus telling everyone about himself. I even had a cane and everything to support my two limp legs, and I was as bitter as hell. I also apologized for making the world's first woman to the class, and that got a major laugh. It's fun being jaded sometimes.

About the Power Point thing: One time, we were supposed to do group projects involving power points, but I got stuck by myself because I sucked at approaching people. Everyone else had their shit together and just read what was on the presentation. I only had about five pages worth of my powerpoint subject and had to bullshit the rest.
              I got a B @_@.

Grades can be good for your self esteem as well.

Yeah, at the time you get them.
Then try wasting your social opportunities, and possibly any chance at happiness for five years for what are essentially worthless letters, THEN see what that does for your self esteem.
As I've said before, the only lasting thing I got out of college were the classes I took to help with my storytelling. Probably one of the few times I've ever preserved notes in a folder for reference.

And it wasn't even a powerpoint one. It was a summary type project where we had to present each chapter of the book we had to read. A theory book.                       I still wonder why the fuck she gave full marks to that abomination. Then again, the particular Professor is insane. Literally. No, really. She is. 0_0;

I loved math. I was a year to two years ahead in math all through middle and high school. One of the reasons it always really appealed to me was that with Math, you're either right, or you're wrong. There's no in between. You're teacher can't be all wishy washy when they grade you and it's nice to know if you do something the one way and it works, it'll probably always work. I love the certainty and absoluteness of it.

My speech professor made us write notes, take quizzes and only allowed 2(of the supposed weekly) speeches throughout the whole term. I would not describe her as insane, but probably a failure.

She was probably doing that shit to meet this "Gordan's Rule" requirement I'm tired of putting up with..

Algebra and Geometry is cocaine to me. Calculus bothers me, but I can survive.

Advanced Statistics and Physics. I'm totally fucked.

EDIT: I'm in a Philosophy class myself, right now. I've been slacking off lately, which has been punching me in the gut lately. Gotta pick back up. Although, I don't think I've ever been in a class where my entire class bitches RELENTLESSLY about how horrible the class and professor is….IN FRONT OF THE PROFESSOR!

                                            I don't know…

Once I got into Binomial, Poissan, Geometric, Normal, etc Probabilities...it pretty much hate Statistics forever.

Out of curiosity, what did you hate about those distributions?

I'd get questions that would make me mix and match them for a word problem. So when I'd have a question where I'd have to use Binomial for the first bit, then take that bit and use Geometric, and then take THAT ONE and then use Normal Distribution by searching the stupid little graph.

My issue wasn't doing it. My issue was that if I made one TINY issue in my math, the entire problem was wrong.

Granted, you could say the same about a lot of math, but jesus christ, was it so much easier to make that mistake.

Mines much more studying in 'what is Critical Thinking' and 'how to apply it effectively'. It's not a bad class, but the teacher teaches by having us read the book. Students are seriously OUTRAGED that we have to read the book instead of hearing him lecture.

                                                My God people are spoiled.

                                                        Ah, yeah, too general.

The 2 Philosophy classes I had (1 obligatory and 1 I picked myself in second year though it was for the 4th years) were brilliant! And the professor, Mister Theodorides, isn't just an excellent professor and one of the calmest people I've met, he also has the sweetest, sexiest voice ever. totally has a crush on him 👅

Out of curiosity, what did you hate about those distributions?

It's a bitch to work with. I took a statistics course for my Business Admin. degree and holy shit did that stuff kick my ass. I've got a couple of excerpts from the formula sheets here somewhere:

                                                            [hide]

                                                            [/hide]

And that was the easy stuff. Employing and actually understanding that stuff was a pain.

Those are autocorrelation tests right? Never really looked into them but they do seem a pain. Distributions were relatively easy to work with. Either way, I prefer to stay away from stats and probability theory.

The only issues I'm having is making it past required courses that aren't really mechanical, like chem and materials science. I just find those courses boring as all hell and hard to put any effort into. Otherwise, I feel confident.

                                                                                                      There kinda fun.

Aside from that I'm kinda bad at it.

I have been terrible at math from the start of my academic life to the present point in time. Stats saved my life, though; it was the only thing in math that made sense to me, though I'm not sure how either. I was even able to come up with my own methods and steps, instead of following my teacher's.

Ah ha, I took a Philosophy introductory course a year ago. We studied Plato's Third Dialogue or something along those lines, I think. Honestly, it was a really slack module. The lecture was at 8AM so i went for like two during the entire semester. Tutorials were one hour every other week, which is half the norm. Final was comprehension MCQ, and the exams often reused passages and questions from the previous years - and it was an open-book test, so you could bring in said past year papers. It was honestly more about having a decent command of English and good comprehension skills than about having a profound sense of logic or even understanding Plato well. I didn't even read the textbook.

Regarding how I study - it varies depending on the module. For one module I'm taking, the information is so all-over-the-place that it's really difficult to just read and understand the general ideas. So I try to jot down notes or key points while going through the articles. Like someone else mentioned, writing (or typing, because I used to write notes and got bad hand cramps right before my History exam) notes helps me to remember, and being able to look back on them helps. A lot. I occasionally do try to memorise certain key points, to commit them to memory, or at least to remember the idea so that I'll be able to retrieve it during the exam.

The best way to memorise something is actually not to keep reading it over and over again, but to look at it really hard and try to relate it to some other concept or idea you already have. It'd also be very good if you can relate it to something about yourself. E.g. this war happened during this time my grandpa was in this war and he was this age blah blah blah (if you're actually trying to memorise dates).

Handsome man save me from the monsters.
