I can't say I was a huge fan of the show in it's later years but looks like we have another totally pointless reboot on our hands. Thanks Warner Bros.
Warner Bros reboot Buffy The Vampire Slayer without Joss Whedon

Heard about this. Never really been into Buffy, but I can tell from the reaction this is probably going to fail.
-
Oh no .
-
As a major Buffy/Angel fan I honestly don't give a shit. Best case scenario is a new generation being introduced to Whedon's Buffyverse through this movie.
-
Hm… I'm not sure how I feel about it. I originally lost interest in the first series after it started to shaft out most of the mian cast, and focused a bit too much on Angel and Spike.
-
I'm calling it out now. It's going to be looking for inspiration from Twilight and possibly twice as faggy.
I now it had fairly similar themes to Twilight but it was never nearly as bad.
-
X-Files 2 movie had the original cast and crew and it flopped. Serenity only made like 25 million and didn't recoup the budget. Bringing the old gang back together 7 years later, and Whedon's writing, aren't necessarily the draw the fanbase insists it is.
That said, doing it without Whedon or any of the characters or history seems pretty stupid, and will likely alienate the built in audience that IS already there. But hey, Twilight made a jillion dollars and its based on utter crap, so who knows.
Its obviously being pushed forward to cash in on twilight, but could be fun if it runs in the opposite direction. Away from the romantic angst and more towards the slaughtering.
-
If the original direction of the film was awesome musical with the original cast i'd be on board. But a Buffy flick without Alyson Hannigan is worse than a melon without ham….. or something that makes sense. Point i'm making is that Alyson Hannigan needs to get her cute butt back to the big screen. I just can't bear forcing myself to watch how i met your mother just to get my Hannigan fix any longer.
But yeah nonsensical ramblings on Alyson Hannigans aside, i'm really indiffrent to this. I know as a fan i should be outraged but hell i dont even like the direction the original series took after season 3 so i'm used to disapointments.

If you want to watch something cool with vampires, check out The Vampire Diaries. Started off horrendously, but is now probably the best drama on broadcast TV with a fantastic cast, great mythology and wonderful characters. The show is a lot like Buffy, just not with that clever Whedon dialogue.
It's too bad that The CW advertises it show as Twilight: The TV Show.

My sister has had the books of TVD and Night World for years and years. She said that the books shit all over the TV series though. Maybe worth a try if your interested?
-
So Vampire Dairies is not about chicks in tight jeans that want to screw thin blood-thirsty pale men(with Edward hair) in tight jeans? The commercials lied to me!
-
Wonder what the next unlikely trend is gonna be, musicals about being in school, oversexed vampires and then ????
-
Zombie love stories .
-
Didnt they already do that with the pride, prejucdice and zombies books?
Or maybe that's not a romance novel, i never really read Austen but always assumed it was chick lit.

I've read on what's different between the TV series and the books and the books don't interest me at all, to be quite honest.

Nope! Only the first episode. It has everything you'd expect from a Twilight-style vampire story. Vampire stalker, dear diary sequences, ominous mist etc.
Then it's like the writers grew a brain or something and completely went in another direction with the story. The two main vampires, Stefan and Damon, resemble Angel and Spike a lot. Except that Stefan and Damon are weaksauce and need to use their brains much more than their muscles when they're in a battle with a vampire, who lately are always much stronger. One of the vampires that was introduced a couple of episodes ago broke window glass by tossing a pair of coins at it, as well as casually slapping a vampire's head off, a vampire that could easily give Stefan and Damon a run for their money. And it turns out that this badass vampire is only a servant of the real Big Bad!
Yes, it's a great show. If you like vampires, you need to check this out. It's a billion times better than True Blood, which I think is awful and is only popular because of its extreme violence + sex.

@Joss:
I'm glad you asked for my thoughts on the announcement of Buffy the cinema film. This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.
Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, "Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson? This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER." Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, "I'll make a mint! This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!" Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?
I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER. I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can't wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie. Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.
Leave me to my pain! Sincerely, Joss Whedon.

This is amazing.

Joss Whedons done some cool stuff. (serenity)
I'm kind of glad he's moved on from the days of buffy.
-
Wha- Reboot? already?
But there is so much lore and stuff in Buffy! -
I'd personally like to see someone do a 3D reboot of The Bible. Christians have been waiting 2,000 years for the sequel, but I doubt any sequel could live up to the original. Let's just make sure to have Michael Bay direct and Warner Brothers produce.

Shia LeBeouf as Jesus Christ. I'm calling it now
