I never assumed that the character KOS-MOS' name had any meaning other than 'cosmos' and possibly the Greek origin. But the other week in learning some uncommon kanji that are required for school but easily forgotten, I came across 秋桜 コスモス or kosumosu and in English, Cosmos. It's name includes 'Sakura' but is different from it in that it is actually a chrysanthemum (forgive terrible spelling). The name itself was derived from the Greek origin but like many other words that came in during Meiji from abroad, some Kanji was slapped on.

      Damn!

No matter where you go, there you are.

        From Wikipedia:
The philosopher Ken Wilber uses the term kosmos to refer to all of manifest existence, including various realms of consciousness. The term kosmos is used to distinguish this nondual universe (which, on his view, includes both noetic and physical aspects) from the strictly physical universe that is the concern of the traditional ("narrow") sciences and is widely associated with the term cosmos.

I wouldn't doubt there are several reasons for the name. Like I suggested, the Greek origin of the word too is yet another source. And the theme of Japan heavily infused in the storyline just as it is in MGS puts no doubt in my mind that alongside the like of 'momo' 'kos-mos' is also from the botantical realm of wordplay and double-meanings done intentionally.

No matter where you go, there you are.

I was just pointing out that "cosmos" and "kosmos" have two seperate meanings. But yeah, I could see what you were trying to say.

Kos-Mos is actually an acronym. It's Keeper of Sin, Mother of Saints. Considering that Kos-Mos' real identity is Mary Magdeline and all…

                And don't ask me where I heard that because I don't remember. ^^;

I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

Ugh, this reminds me. I own both Xenosaga and Xenosaga II and I'm only like 17 hours into the first one. I bought each used tho basically brand new for $7.95 each.

Like many of my games I stopped playing after around 30-40 hours of Gameplay. So many games I gotta finish. Only games I've ever bothered finishing were the Kingdom Hearts games.

That's odd tho, I've played through the Kingdom Hearts games, probably plenty enough to go over 100 hours yet I still keep going back and playing them. Yet I can't put that time into my other games, if I did I'd beat em all…

Guess that goes to show you how much I like the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

Tales of Symphonia, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XII, Dragon Quest VIII, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness...god will I ever finish my games?

Oh, sorry for going so off topic, just the mention of Xenosaga..

Right, and like many video game acronyms meant to have a complicated meaning, they acronym was probably only conceived of afterwards having romanized the letters.

Again, the same is true for Momo. When Japanese people hear 'momo' or 'kosumosu', they think of peaches or the flower, but here they've run with it and assigned it a deeper meaning.

                          I have a fun fact:

this game is boring as all hell.

the bigot who thinks being an asshole is actually worth shit

And FYI Kaizoku's Soul if any new Xenosaga games are going to be made, they'll more likely then not be on a nintendo platform given that they own a good chunk of Monolith Soft. I think Xenosaga I&II were ported to the DS, but not sure how they turned out.

And they definitely didn't fit in the whole story?

Wow, so both Xenogears AND Xenosaga crapped out? Maybe this should tell them something like, MAKE YOUR FIGHTING SYSTEM NORMAL.

But since every goddamn RPG except Dragon Quest out there these days is looking to be 'original' (which spelled backwards reads: 'shitty') I guess they wouldn't listen anyway.
