I was looking for another vid, but stumbled onto this monstrosity
Buttrock? check
Pointless scenes and "letting the episode play"? check
Subtitles? check (bonus points for french and russian subs also)

"Buttrock" does have its place in OP AMV's. That place generally (always?) lies with the villains of the series, though. I made one or a couple like that, depending on how broad your definition of buttrock is, and I thought they worked out fine.
@Cyan:
No, their Post-grunge.
Which is basically another way to say "Kurt Cobain idolizers who can't write songs for shit".
that's what they should've said in the first place
I'm trying to find a good Nami AMV… I'm searching for an hour now and I think I'll give up on that.
I think this is the worst I found

At least it's not "buttrock" …
@dirt:
I'm really tempted to find some country music that might fit.
nowait, found some

…I actually think that could be pretty cool.
@JERK:
Post-Grunge is the most buttrock genre on earth. Trapt, Creed, Nickleback, Three Days Grace, Puddle of Mudd etc.
Horrible as well.
Trapt - GOD yes, that is buttrock.
Creed - Christain buttrock. Used to like them. Don't know why I ever did.
Nickleback - Not buttrock. Just pure shit.
Three Days Grace - Confused them for Third Eye Blind for a second. I like Third Eye Blind. But yes, Three Days Grace is pure buttrock.
Puddle of Mudd - Yep. Buttrock, but I don't mind them.

Shame. I love that song.
But yeah, that's crap.
I've always wanted a good AMV for Nami with "Always a Woman to Me" by Billy Joel.

I won't deny that some buttrock can fit.
Techinically, any song could fit with One Piece with enough razzle dazzle and effort behind it.
…I actually think that could be pretty cool.
I've been listening to quite a bit of country lately, and really, there's at least a dozen more I can't remember that would fit One Piece really well.

'All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight' and its tone are perfect for One Piece.

this seems fitting for the old men of One Piece

That's not really what I mean. I mean if you take a number of "buttrock" songs and compare them with guys like Don Krieg or Lucci, there's a much higher chance of it suiting their character. Regardless of razzle dazzle, those songs won't suit Luffy's character.

The simple fact that it was correct for most of us made the difference, I think.
So no one cares about that Rabbit Run One Piece remix I found? No one?
crickets

Setting Krieg to buttrock would be lame.
Setting Lucci to buttrock would be lame.
It's personalityless music to begin with, it's just ANGRY LOUD, which is so generic a mood to apply to villainry I don't even know where to begin.
Oh also modern buttrock tends to be angsty too, which is the last emotion to ever set One Piece to.

Since Lucci doesn't have any personality, I think it would fit.
wow, one character out of hundreds
Since Lucci doesn't have any personality, I think it would fit.
He doesn't even have some angry loud charisma.

Call me gay/stupid/a poor judge in music.
I don't care.
I love that song.
At a party with white people and they raved about mike posner and they shun me when I didn't know who he is. Is he butt rock?

I wouldn't call that buttrock but it's still terrible, I only listen to him when I am drunk in a party.
Mike Posner is this douchebag who's music has somewhat trance like beats that range from average to shit, but his own singing meets the general quota of "Asshole who sings without the usage of his diaphram mostly because he can't sing, but people will let that pass and allow him to use his 'I've smoked forty billion cigarettes'. It's like John Mayer, but at least Mayer ATTEMPTS to sing.
mqWq_48LxWQ
Plus, singing an entire song about 'you think you're cooler than me' just screams 'you're a fucking loser'.
So no, he's not buttrock. He's much more queef-rave. Attempting to make a bouncing beat, with crap lyrics and shitty singing. Trust me, those people knowing Mike Posner is nothing to praise about. Other than this shitty overplayed song, I don't know shit about him.
Queef-rave is my new favorite word.
linkin park sucks. linkin park amv's suck.
but i guess there are there are exceptions to every rule:

I'll be honest. I like Linkin Park. They are buttrock, and 90% of their songs sound the same. But in the beginning, I liked Linkin Park. Their new album sucks, and I'm not saying that just to say, "Oh, I used to like them, but now their shit, so I agree."
I don't like the song used in that AMV, but the AMV overall was….okay. Nothing really made me cringe. Not even the song, and I do find the song god awful.
It's nothing praise worthy. The song hardly fits the series.
Good editing, but the song is a damn Gorillaz knockoff.
Mike Shinoda couldn't rap his way out of a paper bag.
Very true. I don't even know why they even bother with Mike anymore.
A lot of their biggest hits barely use him, and if they do, it's generally the least memorable part of the song, in contrast to Chester screaming at the top of his lungs.
I'll admit that I like hearing Chester's voice (singing or screaming), but it's not a saving grace (I hate "Numb" to death). It's unfortunately the only thing LP has to lean on anymore for decent songs.
And then they came out with the piece of shit in that AMV…

Why exactly is this video an exception? The music doesn't fit at all, which was the entire point of this thread, I believe. I don't think anyone claimed that those who use "buttrock" are incapable of decent video editing. No offense intended to this Shawez guy.
I do think that "Prayer of a Refugee" by Rise Against fit pretty well in that previously post AMV, but that's just me.
I can't think of a single Linkin Park song that would ever fit in with One Piece. Not one.

because it isn't 'i must instantly shut this off crawling in my skinnnn' horrible. don't get me wrong, it's not good, but it's not unbearable imho.
i don't know if people mean 'style' or 'lyrics' when they say whether the song is 'fitting' or not, but it all seems pretty subjective. one piece is different things to different people. some people are read/watching for the fighting, others the comedy, others the drama, others the art style, etc. the song type you choose for an amv would be completely different based on what part of the one piece you find most appealing.

Ok. When I watch an amv, the song provides the setting. The lyrics, which are entirely tangible, are the starting point. They are the story the song is telling (usually). The music then adds emotion to the story. Then the video shows how the setting could be applied to One Piece.
For this song, the lyrics don't seem to coincide with the events on screen at all, so no link can be made. They seem like two separate stories instead of one unified one. The prevailing emotion is confusion, and the music doesn't even get a chance to do its job. This video seems like it lacks any depth beyond "here's a song I like and some cool animation."
Ah, country…
I will personally make it my mission to make a Vivi AMV set to "Cleopatra, Queen of Denial"
It may not fit, but I can get a good laugh out of it.
'i'm in the middle of the storm' or whatever fits the scene it's connected to with luffy being in the middle of this hectic war and how overwhelmingly frantic it all is. i took the vague theme of 'regret' and 'wanting to change' things as being related to axce and the reason for the song choice, but you could be right. shrugs actually, yeah, that's like the only scene that totally fits together and makes sense cohesively, i guess–and the scene with whitebeard's hand in the air, and lyrics echoing that.
i'm not a big 'the lyrics are important in songs' person, anyway, so i was paying way less attention to them. in amv's, i guess it is a lot more important that the lyrics sync up with the clips, though.
despite that, i still enjoy it and think the editing works really well with the rhythm of the music.

If One Piece is Linkin Park to you you're a tone illiterate degenerate.
This past week's ep of OP needs to have an AMV Hell segment set to "It's raining men". I'd do it if I had the skills/patience.
more country that's more fitting to One Piece than Nami's new bikini top

This thread is awesome, thanks Zephos.
I once wanted to make a TTGL AMV using Queen's Don't Stop Me Now as the themes fitted perfectly, but never got around it. Then I saw this a month ago:

Just imagine this with a better timing and some lip synchro…I would donate for such an AMV. Sadly, those ideas are rare...and that's without factoring in good execution.
Alright. This is the best OP AMV I've seen.

It is rather amusing. Though the music has flaws.
lol, watching that, I realized we need more One Piece AMVs with a song for them to dance to and clips of all those silly dancing and party scenes
One Piece at its finest
This has such pure buttrock that it made me laugh.

if you hear any, you could always call the cops, and call on them for noise polution
