Don't hate on Facebook games now, people. It has brought us back two of our beloved classics (that some of you whipper'snappers never played):

Ms. Satsuki… really...?
Oregon Trail?
Shit, haven't played that since sixth grade.
I heard of Oregon trail, but I've never played it. I played Carmen Sandiego all the time when I was younger(around Elementary and Middle School).
Haha! Aight, aight.
Oregon Trail went hard as a kid. I can't remember Carmen Sandiego that much though.
sick I always wanted to play Oregon Trail. It sounds even better with friends.
I LOVED Carmen Sandiego as a kid. I had the NES version and at least two or three of the PC games. Played them throughout elementary school, and sometimes for nostalgia well into middle and high school.
…I just might try these out.
Oregon Trail was bizarre in that it was "educational" so schools would buy the updated versions every couple of years, and the graphics would keep improving. And you would name everyone traveling after people in your class, and find it funny when they got dysentary or drowned or whatever… and nobody EVER bothered buying food in advance, they just hunted.
Just glancing at that youtube screenshot my mind is boggled by how fancy the graphics are. For Oregon Trail.
Carmen Sandiego, I had for my SEGA MASTER SYSTEM. (Not the genesis mind you, the one before that.) And the schools would occassionally get and upgrade that too.
Damn... I'm gonna have to play that some. Bad enough Robot Unicorn Attack is on facebook.
Both these games are proof that Educational Games do not have to suck. They can be fun and addictive, just like any game. And if you learn something in the process, isn't that all the better?
Seriously, kids learn things when they play games, either video or in the playground. Play should be integrated more.
Between this and the Disney thread, its nostalgia night all of a sudden.
Wow. I remember Oregon Trail very faintly, but I'm not sure I ever played it. I must have been 6 or 7 at the time I remember seeing it. I never knew Carmen Sandiego had a game, though. This I definitely have to play!
I played an Oregon Trail Demo on my phone actually, and enjoyed it to death. So releasing it on Facebook will make me so happy. I always did wanted to play more of that game but alas a demo.

This is the exact definition of our Fridays in sixth grade English class.
I can clearly see all my productivity being thrown out the window with these games coming to Facebook.
I'm more interested in Civilization for Facebook. I signed up for the beta but I guess I didnt' get in.
Also, I wish someone on youtube just had a 5-second video of those cheeseballz singing "where in the world is carmen sandiego"
Both of these were amazing back when I was a kid.
Nostalgia, man.

Man I never interpreted any of Oregon Trail educationally, so heavily to the extent that not even my decisions went through any kind of trial and error process
I'd shoot up as many buffalo as possible
Not be able to drag them back to my cart because of the excessive weight
And then shoot up as many buffalo as possible again next chance
Then I'd bullrush rivers
Any diplomacy or character-based decisions were always just arbitrarily chosen, or not even at all.
"You are a doctor, would you like to buy stuff at town for your a– STRAIGHT TO THE TRAIL"
And we all died hours later.
I learned nothing about the time period, Oregon, trails, or survival.
Edutainment.
Personally I thought the only point to the Oregon Trail was to shoot far more buffalo than you could possibly carry, give your people ironic names,
"Megaman has died of dysentery."
"Jesus has drowned."
and attempt to ford the river no matter how often it failed so those people with ironic names would drown.
"Namor has drowned."
lol good times
I've never heard of Oregon Trail before. I mostly played the Age of Empire games when young. =P They really let ya play it at schools? Awesome. it looks fun enough~ O: Will try it out when it comes out on FB so I can kill Sarus again and again and again! =D
I'm going to try out the new Oregon trail game on facebook, I've wanted to try it ever since it came out on Iphone, should be fun if they can work in some sort of multiplayer.

I can't imagine Oregon Trail being multiplayer. It's… just not a multiplayer game.
At all.

The group you are looking for is "Rockapella".

I don't think there's a 5 second version though. You should do something about it. Especially since it really sucks after the first 20 or so seconds.
Pretty much their only claim to fame IS that song, as featured on PBS, (and lets face it, kids only watched that terrible 30 minute gameshow for the themesong.) though they did some other decentish stuff.
I am kind of amused that "Mondays through Fridays at 5!" is an official lyric tho.
Lol.
Nothing against Oregon or Carmen, but everything against Facebook.

there were updated versions? i never really got to play it anyways. it was for the fast kids in class to entertain them, while the rest of us toiled away at classwork.
and really! carmen sandiego for master system. was it any good? I would think they were on 2 different time lines.

omg. why did you tell me this. i officially have no life the day this is released.
I'm not a big fan of playing games on Facebook, but these would change my mind.
Used to love playing both games but I wonder if FB will charge for certain aspects or make it another game that requires you to have friends playing it to get ahead. Hope this isn't the case since that would really hamper the classic fun.
If it's like the good versions many of us grew up with, I'll be getting down for sure.

I feel like there's enough name value and recognition that they don't need to build the ENTIRE GAME around getting more friends to play like some kind of pyramid scheme, but I'm sure there will be an element of that in some form. Even if it's just like "post your high score and challenge your friends to beat it!"
