Welp, my life has been interesting lately.
! Seems as though I've made a hard leap into adulthood. To start with, I live with my grandparents, my aunt, cousin and, until recently, my uncle. I have to get this little story out the way first before moving into present events; after Hurricane Katrina destroyed our home, my grandparents received the insurance money and then paid off the house using that insurance money. They then turned over ownership, the house being already repaired at this point so that there's no confusion, to my aunt.
! She, unbeknownst to my grandparents, then got a second mortgage on the house; this is the beginning. Now… my aunt doesn't work. As a matter of fact, she's selfish, self-centered and thinks the world revolves around her. So it continues, she gets liposuction, which my grandfather co-signs on (second mistake). That's an ever-lingering bill. And then, for the piece of resistance, she divorces my uncle, who then leaves the house (and, incidentally, outside of my grandparents' social security and retirement checks, was the only provider in the household). Oh, and my cousin is autistic by the way. So he can't work but he CAN create more need for funds.
! It gets better. Naturally, due to the increasing debts caused by ignorance and negligence, we get behind on our bills. That should catch this segment of the story up. Present day, my aunt finds out she has thyroid cancer. Most of it gets removed but not all of it was able to be removed and so she needs chemo. On top of our current financial crisis, medicine between my two grandparents (who both have diabetes), and medicine for my autistic cousin, now my aunt has a mountain of medical expenses. Long story short, I'm slowly shouldering more and more of the burden because, naturally, I don't want to see my family struggle (and I sort of live here).
! Second part of the story, my mother is crazy. Again, just for context sake, I need to explain a little something something. My mother is a known manipulator, deceiver and also... quite selfish.~ (There seems to be a pattern here). Now, when I was a child, she's stolen from me, hocked my stuff, subjected me to an overall unstable environment just to continue a petty grudge with the rest of my family, yada yada. Let's skip over all that.
! She, too, recently divorced her husband. (To be honest, my faith in marriage is pretty abysmal at this point). In this marriage, she had step children, in addition to my half-sister Shy-Anne and myself. Now, let's also never mind that Shy-Anne grew up with these siblings since birth and is pretty shaken by the divorce and move into the meat of it. Her husband had a daughter (her stepdaughter) that was about 18 years old and they got into a fight wherein my mom beat the living crap out of said daughter and was then charged with a felony. Obviously, this didn't fly with the husband and they got divorced.
! Don't worry, this is pertinent information for what I'm about to say. I recently discovered that I had 3 hard inquiries in my credit report recently (a hard inquiry is when a credit card or loan company receives an application for what they sell and then forward this information to the credit bureau). I've never applied for any of that shit in my life so naturally, I call them up to dispute it. What I learned is that whoever applied for these things used my social security number and my mother's name.
! Naturally, again, I confront my mother about it today. She flips; she vehemently denies that she applied for any of that stuff and claims that it must have been Hailey (said stepdaughter) that did so for such and such reason. Then she claims that she's going to go and teach that bitch a lesson "for good". My grandparents were present so they naturally told her "Don't do it! That's dumb! What about your daughter!" You know, logic. But she was frantic and thinks that Hailey was trying to turn me against her.
! Me, personally, I'm being calm the entire time. And I had to go buy my car today so I basically said, "How old are you? 41? How old is she? 19? Act your age." and then left, hoping that was enough to convince her not to. At this point, I have no idea what's going to happen because it all happened today. Oh… But here's a monkey wrench.
! Recently, before having this conversation, my grandmother told me that she and my mother were talking about putting Shy-Anne on her will and giving me custody of her in case anything ever happens (because the father is pretty much trash; in jail). I'm all for it and agree to it.
! Now, I'm pretty perceptive, or I like to think I am. I've devised a few predictions. Current home situation, I'm going to have to hold this bitch up. My crazy mom, I'm thinking some day (hopefully not soon but probably soon), I'm going to end up with custody of my sister.
! Can I support my sister and this house? Yes. Pretty damn well actually. I have my own medical insurance, dental, yada, yada. Got a brand new car today, I'm clearing all my debts and I'm pinching my pennies in a very effective way. And from my current position offshore, there's ENDLESS room for me to grow. But do I want to support everyone?

! I'm going to be honest, man. I'd rather be the one with custody of my sister that way I know she's taken care of (by the way, she has juvenile diabetes and recently had surgery for a brain tumor; didn't want to skip out on the details;; it's a miracle I'm as healthy as I am) and I don't want to see my grandparents suffer the way they do. But it's all so sudden, I'm starting to shoulder so much.
! I was talking to my grandmother last night and I was pretty much forcing her to tell me how our financial situation is. Her credit is fucked up, they're late on all their payments, they barely have any money for food and I just looked at her and said, "You must all be fools. Why the hell haven't you asked me for any money? You must think I'm a freaking stranger in this house."
! My grandparents legitimately don't want to burden me, they're the ones holding everything together and they pretty much want me to escape the house before everything sinks. But I just can't do it. I can't see them suffer like this. I almost cried when I talked to my grandmother last night but I stopped myself. I'm almost cried today talking to my mom but I stopped myself.
! It's heavy. I don't think I've ever successfully stopped myself from crying so quickly before. But to be honest, even though I'm talking about all of this, it's a lot of stuff... But I'm not that worried about it. I think I can still help everyone out before I ultimately leave. Custody of my sister is probably the biggest issue floating in the air right now. As it stands, my grandparents wouldn't be able to take care of her.
! I just felt like writing this down somewhere. To be honest, I don't really need any sympathy. I'm actually starting to get pretty good at handling these kinds of situations now. -

goddammit. It's not that I didn't get it but somehow my brain managed to ignore everything and go off in a different direction entirely. probably has something to do with that I was literally just looking it up, and partly because Smudger's avatar just makes me think of him in a field surrounded by animals. christ it's not even past midnight over here but it feels like it's three. I think this is another definite sign I need more sleep right now.
I basically turned in a blank sheet of paper for an exam today, followed by another exam which admittedly could have been so much worse, and now I've got this paranoid fear that my schedule for the rest of this week is screwed up. it's as though everyone seems to have gotten some secret memo but me, and yet the memo doesn't seem to make sense. I really think I need some kind of method for calming down sudden anxiety attacks. I sort of want to go running around panicking but at the same time I don't have that sort of energy. I've been having weird feelings of pain ever since earlier when I brilliantly fumbled taking medication.

Thinking Tove Jansson was Swedish is a pretty honest mistake since she is half-swedish, with a super Swedish name and was part of the distinct Swedish speaking population of Finland. Or maybe i'm overthinking it and it was all just due to it being from somewhere the hell up north and Sweden just happens to be the easiest guess lol

Tove Jansson kick all kind of ass. I love Jackson's vision of Middle-Earth, but Jansson's illustrations have defined Hobbit for me in my childhood.
Moomin merchandise is overpriced though. This is a sad story about how Silverblade doesn't have a Groke plush, but has a puukko instead.
