It just popped into my mind while we were talking about alcohol in IRC, so I get it out of my system.
When I was 18 I had an.. alcohol problem I'd say.
uhm. kind of embarassing. Well, I used to drink a bottle or two of sparkling wine every evening. uhm yeah. I did that for about 2 months then I stopped it.
I just suffered a lot and I somehow wanted to drown it but on the other hand I just wanted to get it out of my system. Cause.. well it's hard for me to be emotional, to let tears of sorrow out if I'm not drunk. It's a lot easier when I'm drunk and because I knew crying would help me, I just got drunk, lol.
Yeah, stupid, immature, naive yadda yadda yadda. I'm over that now

Well, after trying to make sense out of the senseless messes in this page, my take on the problem is: I don't think it's the boyfriend's responsibility to take care of his drunken girl. If you are a member of the human race, then it's your responsibility to help whenever whoever in that situation. What Mr.333 did is what a person normally would do.
My reaction to his story was pretty much the same as Zephos:"Well, fuck, how could those kids be so fucked up?"
If something like that happened in a party of my friends, the whole gang would gather around the victim and try their best to help her. Not to mention incident that big, if my classmate got a headache in the middle of the class, there would be more than one volunteer to drive him/her home.
And boy does that bring me back. When I got hospitalized for Appendicitis, the whole class visited me and contributed money to buy me healthy stuff. I never actually talked to most of them, because I am kind social withdrawal. I am not close to most of them, but even so, they see it as a normal thing to care about a classmate in sickness. The same thing happens when a teacher gets sick. We don't talk big, we don't talk moral, we just do it like something take for granted.
I never thought I would miss my high school class, but now I do, damn. -

When I was around 16 I once came home late. Had some fun on the beach with friends. It was summer vacation.
Well I got out of the bus and suddenly saw that guy laying in the gras. Then I noticed him. He was from my school. One year above me. We never talked to each other but I still kind of liked him cause he seemed to have similiar taste in music. I went to him. "Hey, are you alright? Do you need help?" He just stuttered around. He was fuckin drunk. He said he went out of an earlier bus because he had to vomit. (He lived one bus stop away from me, around 4-5km).
So I told him he could sleep at my place and that I have some white bread for his stomach. He didn't want to sleep at my place but I said "Well, I won't let you lay here. So you can choose. I can bring you home or you come with me, I live right there." He eventually gave in and came with me. I lived alone so that was no problem.
My room was a mess, I was happy he was drunk, haha. So yeah helped him get up my bed (I had a loft bed back then), gave him the bread and a bucket in case he needs to throw up again. I slept in the living room.
Next morning when I woke up he was gone. He left a note that said "thank you" and that I need to clean my bedding, haha. And that he is sorry.
Next time I met him he smiled ashamed at me. We never got in touch again.
My mum flipped out when I told her the story "Are you insane? He could have raped you or-" "MUM, he was too drunk to rape!" "Doesn't matter, That's OUR flat don't invite some strangers in OUR flat! He could have robbed us!!" "Mum he was drunk and I know him from school!" Meh. Should have known her reaction from the start xD2 years ago I was in a foreign city for a practica for 6 weeks. I had a habit of spending every night in the city. Only to sit on some staircase and watching people passing by. And the lights. And the fountain.

I will point out that Mr333 not only asked why the girl said what she did, but also if she was right, and he did too much. It's merely a term used to describe how someone values themselves, and is often measured by actions. Going out with a guy that would get you dead drunk in order to have necro style sex hardly denotes a strong feeling of self worth, IMHO, but of course I hope she grows out of that and finds a way to expect more for herself. And FTR, I, and I believe most of the other posters here, are not critisizing the girl herself (noone called her any names or anything–and I would hazard a guess that everyone here wishes her the best), but rather her choices and actions. These are, as you suggested, easily changed by learning from her mistakes.

In my experience we always help the person who had too much to drink, because we've all been there once and we know what it feels like.
Though the older we get, the harder we laugh. When you're 15 and you get drunk the first time it's sad and a good lesson for the future. When you're 19 and slumped on the ground, whining about how you'll never drink again, it becomes a lot harder to symphathise. But we will still look out for you (but we also put vids on YT the next day).

Well they are cute. I just wish they weren't stupid as fuck. But then again, logically speaking, most shounen is also stupid as fuck. So I guess it balances out. Still, I feel like there's masterpieces left to be found in both categories as I sift through the sea of disappointment.

I guess it's the general problem with mangas targeted at a younger audience. The only one I can think of that wasn't really ''dumb'' in terms of complexety is probably Death Note thanks to Light's constant scheming.
Shoujo I usually read for the drama as long as it's carried out nicely. Although I dislike love triangles because it usually involves the male lead being dumb as fuck and not making up his mind until the last minute. Shoujo I think is also a lot more comical than most shounen in order to make up for the lack of action like Love Hina or Hana Kimi ,however, there are also significantly darker ones like Bitter Virgin. I'm not even sure if Bitter Virgin still counts as shoujo and not a yosei after what the female lead had to go through.

Yeah, it could very well be that the more mature categories are where I should be looking if I'm searching for complexity and just in general, good narrative. Though I'd still have to search because there's not as many mangas in the mature category, nor are they all winners. The drama in shoujo always boils down to what you've mentioned but it can't be reprimanded too harshly since its counterpart in shounen also follows formulatic structures. Needless to say, it's all the same story and different characters.

Have you read Bitter Virgin? Because I think it's one of the better shoujos out there as it's not needlessly corny and gives also a nice insight on how Japanese relations work (for example what difficulties an unwed mother has to face) although it gets very dark midway through, which is not surprising considering the background theme.
Oh, and Basara was also a good read but it's not generic shoujo either because it has some shounen themes mixed in. And a timeless classic is also the Vision of Escaflowne although it's more a borderline shoujo as well.

Yeah, it's really hard but if you keep looking you will find some gems. Although with Shoujo it's kind of hard determing whether they're good or not right from the get-go because the genre is more character-driven than anything since the plot tends to be really simple. And finding characters interesting tends to take a lot longer than liking a plot or power system or whatever shounen clichee.
Oh I'd also recommend Dengeki Daisy by the way. It's fairly standard but the characters are actually likeable for once, especially the female lead.
EDIT: I thought everyone reading Shoujo has already read Fruit's Basket at some point =P but Nana is also worth checking out yes. You've got a lot to do Uncle Kenny

As far as shoujo goes, I read Fushigi Yugi and Kare Kano when I was younger, but the only shoujo I'll probably read twice for laughs is Ouran.
I have to admit that I was put off by it at first, but then its easy going brand of humor won me over. -

Maybe it's because the majority of Shoujo stories and art stlyes are just really horrible and I feel bad by affiliation.A funny, easy going read was Otomen, atleast to a certain point. I don't know why, but at some point I stopped reading since it somehow started to annoy me. Don't know what it was exactly haha.
An insider's tip would be Banana fish. It's a shoujo, but I don't even know why it's labeled as such to begin with. Except for maybe the fact that the author is a woman and the main character is a bit of a bishounen. But the style and the action are quite atypical. And It has a hell of a story, check it out some time. -

I'm pretty he wasn't a super pleasant guy but that's probably because of mental illness and/or shitty home life combined with the high stress and workload of my shcool.
! When the first happened earlier in the year, I was deeply saddened but I came to terms with it and got past it in time. i think it was in 2008.Firstly there was a car crash in my village which killed the driver and passenger in one of the cars after they ran straight into a fence.
i later found out that one of the victims was a girl that used to go to my school. her mother was killed too.then later on in the year another one of my old schoolmates died.
this one was more hard hitting to me because she used to be in my math class, although she would regularly act out towards the teacher and cause trouble for the class.
Acoording to the friends she was with, they were simply walking across a field when the girl suddenly had a quick and violent fit, threw up some orange stuff, and basically curled up and died. =[and then in 2009, my friend's ex-GF died after having an epileptic seizure.

According to my sister who is in the same class, he was the lovable class clown. He died of some bullshit disease that came right the fuck outta nowhere. This not even a week after a spirit assembly.
! I believe the second was in my class, the freshman. He committed suicide either last night or the morning of the day I am writing this post. I'm pretty he wasn't a super pleasant guy but that's probably because of mental illness and/or shitty home life combined with the high stress and workload of my shcool.
! When the first happened earlier in the year, I was deeply saddened but I came to terms with it and got past it in time. Now that the second one has happened I'm being hit with the full force of both and hopefully posting about it here will help me get the load off my chest, if only a little bit.I wish you to feel better soon. It's really depressing to hear that two fellow students died in such a short period of time. Especially how they died.
Two years ago, a boy got hit by a garbage car on his way to school. I didn't know him, but I could feel the sadness on all of the teachers and most of the students. I heard the school hired a psychologist for the class the poor boy was in.
Ever since, I can't look at a garbage truck, or any car for that matter, the same way. And I'm pretty sure that's how the whole school has been feeling since then.I really wish you the best. I'm sure time will help. It's always harder at the beginning. Stay strong.

I used to read a lot of shoujo, but stopped a few years ago.
! My self-esteem is dropping lower and lower and I have no idea why. I haven't had a serious issue with it in years. I need to fix myself but I don't know how. (A little ironic, considering what I'm studying.) And it doesn't really help that having low confidence makes me feel weak and a little despicable. I can understand and sympathise with others' esteem problems, but not my own.
