Yeah, I totally forgot about Ratzenberger too. I think he was that crab who was "cutting the lawn"

Just saw Finding Dory. Great movie. Gerald and Becky got no love tho
-
There's an after-the-credits sequence by the way.
-
So I saw it. WONDERFUL movie. Good as the first one? No. Funny as the first one? No. But still really good and really funny.
! I think every memory of Dory as a little fish with her parents gave me the feels as Chibi-Dory was so. fucking. cute. Also tinged with that sadness.
! I don't know if there's much more I can say other than everything was done really well, but there weren't as many laughs as the first one. Except that giant clam. The clam gave me a fit. In the classic Pixar style though all the supporting characters were gems, from the whales, Hank, to the sea lions. It's now one of those cases where I'll never be able to look at an octopus or a sea lion the same way again. And I'll never use a touch pool again either.Oh, and Piper? PERFECT.
@Kaido:
the supporting trio was well fleshed out; dare I say it they were better than the dentist fish or any other supporting characters in Finding Nemo. Also had a good originality to nostalgia ratio.
Nope. The trio were awesome, but they still weren't better than the tank gang. Hank still isn't as good as Gill.
There's an after-the-credits sequence by the way.
FUCK! I missed it!
-
-
Piper was the cutest thing I ever watched. I could sit there and watch a whole movie with it running around the waves, gathering food and I wouldn't be bored one bit
All in all, I liked Finding Dory :)
[hide]@Satsuki: The clam was Hank in the credits which made it even funnier to me xD [/hide]
@Demon Rin: The Good Dinosaur was probably one of the most gorgeous movies Pixar made imo. The story though was pretty mediocre. Really if it wasn't for the breathtaking visuals, I would've given the movie a 4 instead of a 6.5/10. Brave is more like a 7.5 for me, again for the art and character design (man I really, really loved the character design)
-
Brave is still dissapointing because the early trailers, and the Japanese ones, made it look like we were going to get Pixar attempting to do a Miyazaki film. Maybe not Mononoke, but a Miyazaki film.
ANd instead we got them doing a less funny Emporer's New Groove instead, mixed with two very different directors making it all atonal.
I'd be up for a sequel on that one though, given that the world itself is kind of ripe… but I guess I'm probably okay just sticking with How to Train Your Dragon.
And yes, the Good DInosaur is sooooo gorgeous. Those backgrounds are photo-realistic. They are getting GOOD at that. But yeah, the story was... not so good.
-
Nope. The trio were awesome, but they still weren't better than the tank gang. Hank still isn't as good as Gill.
We'll have to agree to disagree on that. I loved Gill, but Hank was, if only slightly, more interesting to me. And I don't remember anyone else in the tank gang other than the starfish on the wall.

Oh, it turns out Coco (the Day of the Dead movie) is also coming out next year, so hopefully it will be a refresher if Cars 3 is as bad as people think it'll be.
-
I stg Pixar is low-key hinting at Marlin X Dory. That last shot parallels with the intro scene with him and his wife talking about the view
-
Pixar pulled a switch, now Incredibles 2 is coming out in 2018 and Toy Story 4 is coming in 2019.
RIP to all the "15 years too late" memes :ninja:
-
We're getting Incredibles sooner, and the completely unasked for TS4 later, so… all in all, good news. I am happy at this change.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I wonder how long this will last…. http://io9.gizmodo.com/pixar-doesnt-have-any-more-sequels-planned-after-2019-1783010734?rev=1467477066600&utm_campaign=socialflow_io9_facebook&utm_source=io9_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
No more sequels after they've already done 8 sequels? Gosh!
Mostly because Wall-E, Ratatouille, Inside Out, and Up REEEEALLY shouldn't have sequels, I assume. And they like to pretend Bug's Life never happened.
I'm sure Cars 4 will go on the slate for for 2022, and keep up the five year cycle on those, they just don't want to announce it a year before Cars 3 comes out. That one is too franchise-able and the toys sell too much not to, especially with it being Lasseter's baby and the one franchise where they don't seem to care if its any good or not.
Ditto for Toy Story 5, if all common sense didn't make them stop at the perfect stopping point that was 3, there's no reason to not franchise that one to death. They can even switch up the specific toys eventually.
Brave 2 wouldn't be a bad thing… but maybe keep the setting and ditch ALL the characters and take another stab at what the movie should have been.
Allthough, I just realized, this is the second time TS4 has been pushed back. It was slated for 2017 then pushed back a year for Cars 3, and now another year for Incredibles 2. That's a two year schedule push for a movie that was announced in 2014. Two extra years on an already 3 year+ time table making it a 5 year+ production? (Who knows how long it was under work before they announced it.) That's... worrisome?

Mostly because Wall-E, Ratatouille, Inside Out, and Up REEEEALLY shouldn't have sequels, I assume. And they like to pretend Bug's Life never happened.
I think Inside Out could actually work well for a sequel or even a trilogy. Mainly if they focus on Riley growing up or switch protagonists (it hasn't happened before, but this is the one series where they can try to get away with it since its a series focus on a concept as broad as emotions and the psychological mindscape/psyche). I liked the movie, but the main reason why I couldn't think it was, say, "absolutely amazing" is because the plot focused around the Riley's life on its own is completely predictable and simple. And I don't mean to say that's a bad thing at all, and I actually like how the movie is an extremely clever and figurative way of showing how we naturally grow up and embrace our emotions under the guise of it being an epic adventure.
But I think there's definitely potential in exploring a sequel or two with older protagonists that tackle lifestyles and topics that help make the human side of the story much more complex, unique, realistic, and therefore inspiring. Such as focusing on Riley or another character as a parent, or adjusting to adulthood in terms of responsibility in terms of self-support/getting a job and how all of the relationships you had with friends and family change as they become more distant. And that's not even getting into the potential of exploring topics like romance that Pixar hasn't tackled in a notable way yet (aside from how Toy Story 4 is said to be more romance-based with finding Belle), and Inside Out is literally THE perfect movie to actually explore controversial topics in that regard as kid's flick for obvious reasons. I honestly see a lot of potential in these things, and it would give room for Anger, Sadness, and Fear to get more spotlight as starring roles while still keeping Joy and Sadness as relevant characters. Or, just to throw a random idea out there, an installment focusing on an elderly Riley or other protagonist dealing with legacy and memory loss (if Carl and Ellie can lose a kid, then Pixar can get away with some sort of alzheimer's based plot), and seeing how the latter effects the mind. I'm just throwing random ideas onto the board, but my point is that there are bunch of major possibilities still open with a series that literally personifies elements of the mind. That concept is so fluid for so many situations in life that it should be taken advantage of.
I definitely agree on Up, Ratatouille, and WALL-E not needing sequels, but automatically dismissing Inside Out getting a sequel sounds a bit weird to me. Especially in terms of all the possible situations and humor they could still do, and plenty of the deleted scenes highlight how much potential there still is with this franchise. Don't get me wrong, I want to get out of this Pixar sequel plague as much as everybody else, but Inside Out (along with the Incredibles) are the two Pixar series that literally scream loads of sequel potential. Just don't go overboard with it like Cars and Toy Story (although it would be inevitable with how much of a hit Inside Out was). I just can't help but wonder how interesting it would have been if Inside Out was focused on the perspective of, say, one of Riley's parents without the sole focus on gags and seeing their perspectives of looking back on their lives and what could've been, and struggling with money, marriage, and parenting. Along with all of the various types of humor that comes from growing up. I would find that a lot more compelling and ripe with dynamic story potential for audiences of all ages to appreciate than a plot as simple as a kid moving to a new place, repressing your feelings of not fitting in, and trying to run away. Incredibles and UP dabble somewhat in these types of "mature" lifestyle circumstances, but Inside Out can actually allow Pixar to go full throttle with the realism while still having the cartoony half of the mindscape to still be appealing as a bright and humorous kids film. And the fact that the first installment starts from the perspective of a kid is great because as a sequel or threequel gets to more mature perspectives on life, the child-oriented audience grows along with the series for them to fully appreciate the themes explored as they get more realistically complicated.
Just my two cents though, feel free to counter any or all of this lol.
Can't wait for the Day of the Dead movie. I'm having high hopes for that.
-
That's… worrisome?
The Good Dinosaur had similar delays and they still never actually fixed the third act problems that were the cause of the delay.
-
There's room to do more with Inside Out, sure. But a repeat of a journey through the brain would be dull… and I can't see them doing a super mature relationship story with a side of exploring the inside parts. Sure, there's absolutely potential to be really good stuff there, but I dunno that Pixar is the brand to tackle it. Ghibli film doing the exact same thing absolutely. Pixar? I dunno.
It would just be a really hard balance to strike to make it worthwhile... and they honestly didn't even in the first film, where the "outside" stuff was the dullest part.
Wall-E is still their most romancey movie... and the first 10 minutes of UP which are probably the best thing they've done in all their films.
-
Eh, you're right about a studio like Ghibli being more suited for it. It's just that romance is such a recurring element in their films (Incredibles, WALL-E, Up, Ratatouille, Toy Story 4), especially from a realistic standpoint that… Why not just go for a whole movie about that with a franchise like Inside Out? Romance is just one option though But yeah, it's definitely hard to come up with how to diversify another trip around the brain, although I wouldn't say it's impossible. Arguably the only way I can conceive is by most likely jumping the shark and exploring other parts of the body lol, but even that's been done by other series like Osmosis Jones. It's still hard to not see Pixar try a sequel after 2019 with the movie's success though despite their statements.

Cars 3 teaser trailer released:
Damn is it dark, especially since it's for the Pixar franchise that seems the most geared toward kids. McQueen basically reliving what happened to Doc Hudson could set up for a very personal flick that, if done right, could get the Cars franchise back on the road and we can all pretend Cars 2 never happened. And the animation was so good I could barely connect it with any of the previous Cars movies, which could be good or bad.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
OK, I just saw the film description and its tone was significantly different, giving me a little less optimism that the film won't be incredibly dumb. But then again I rarely like Pixar trailers, so there's not much I can judge right now.
! Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
-
That trailer needs an Applebee's ad in the middle of it.
-
Amazing animation, as always. Might as well be watching NASCAR.

I like to pretend Cars 2 didn't happen either…..unfortunately I can't.

"new generation of blazing fast racers" but doesn't the Cars series take place over only a few years?

Coco is a musical? I never knew that!
So where's Santana in all this?
It's not REALLY a musical lol. It's just going to play have sequences/montages with lots of background music. Think Tarzan and Brother Bear more than the likes of The Little Mermaid or Tangled.
!
!Expect sequences like that. Except some of the instruments might be played on-screen.
-
The story of a boy rebelling against a music-banning household? Hmmm…I'm interested to see where they could take this, because it could easily fall into familiar territory.
-
I've always been excited for this film since it was claimed to be Day of the Dead-themed, and being music themed as well is only amplifying that even more. I really wish there were more animated adventure stories based around music and giving instruments/singing supernatural abilities. What might make or break this movie though is how creative the world of the dead will look. After Inside Out and The Book of Life (I know the latter isn't Pixar, but as a recent Dia de los Muertos-based film, its art-style was GORGEOUSLY QUIRKY AND VIBRANT), my standards are set a bit high lol.

new cars movie is about millennials and it nosedived from mildy interesting to hot trash in .2 seconds

New teaser trailer out
Not much in it, just advertising
new toysthe guy who kills McQueen, the girl who brings McQueen back to life, and the McMan himself.Kind of unrelated, but I'm a bit miffed at how McQueen got this makeover near the end of the first movie but in the final race not 10 minutes later he's back to his old look, which stays for the next two movies. Sure, he's a racecar and has to advertise stuff for his career, but even 7 year old me thought the abrupt transition back was weird.
-
That's barely a teaser.
It feels like the last 2 Cars 3 vids are mostly Pixar showing off how good their animation is. Which is amazing, but still.
-
Take away the big eyes and mouths, and you got a standard car commercial.

What kind of Mexican household bans music!? Of all the Pixar movies this is the most unbelievable story.

It's pretty much literally the same story as Book of Life.
-
Yep, there is that similar plot line but it seems this movie takes it to whole new level with all music being outright banned for generations.

Chevron wasn't going for standard when they made these commercials

I did not want to see that. Gosh. Why are they so… creepy?

Coco is going to be the best animated Footloose adaptation since Little Mermaid 3!
-
@Coco:
In fact, it’s his worship of De La Cruz—and a shocking discovery about him—
Gee, I wonder what that could possibly be.

We have found the legendary Mexican Mennonites.

Those Wallace and Gromit style commercials were weird. I think it's the teeth that makes em very odd.

Is that the same style as Chicken Run? Because I was terrified of that movie when I was a kid.

Yeah I think it's the same people.

So I haven't bought the Inside Out DVD yet (don't judge me), but apparently there was a short attached to it:
Of course I had to go looking for the whole thing. Great stuff.

I just recently came across this Disney easter eggs clip which highlights all the links between films. Very, very cool!

Not too sold on the new trainer car yet, but if this movie sticks with the theme it's promoting and executes it well I could see myself liking it. -
Yeah sorry. I liked the first one more than it has any right to be liked, but I'm still getting over how awful Cars 2 was.
-
Well, it looks better than Cars 2 anyway . . .
And the first Cars has the benefit of being more charming the more you watch it.
