If they are too stubborn to release a cheap wii u without the gamepad, then releasing a new slimmer bundle that is cheaper is the next best thing.^^
Why would they do that when the gamepad is pretty essential to the console? (Unless you mean for replacing a broken console.)
-
Not that essential, if it's mostly used as an alternative screen, instead of actually having heavy new gameplay mechanics.
-

It is essential in the sense the some games can't be played without the gamepad itself. Though I'm too lazy to do a proper rundown of all the games that require it.
-
There are games that can't be played without kinect or ps move, yet the consoles come without them.:ninja:
-
Nah like for certain games, the gamepad is actually essential is what Galaxy means. Like the game literally will not function without there being a gamepad
-

Yeah with Hermit said about Galaxy.
-
And I totally get that.^^ I'm just saying that, since the majority of games doesn't require it, they could offer a bundle without the game pad, with a sign saying that some games might not work etc. to appeal to a wider audience with a cheaper price. But ultimately releasing a slimmer version for a lower price is the way to go I think. :)
Nintendo also could try to release their next system without a gimmick, having it be on ps4/xone level graphically, well a little more would be better, and then they not only would get all the third party titles, but they would also have their exclusives on it, which would be a big argument for their system, arguably way bigger then for the other two.
Or after so many console generations with such low third party support, they could just fully abandon trying to appeal to the ps4/xone market and just be a nintendo system, which it is now anyway.
-
Ultimately, when a supermajority of Nintendo's own games (and really the only reason anyone buys a Nintendo console in the first place) outright require and utilize the Gamepad, there's a hella low chance of Nintendo making a nongamepad version of the Wii U, and most games do feature integration with the gamepad in some manner.
Heck I think they're already selling some bundles at $250 during the holiday season, so I don't really see them dropping the price any further and reducing the main gimmick of the system.
-
I think this new slim gamepad version could be true and they will release a cheaper bundle next year, at least it would be smart and entice more people to buy.^^
-
Just looking at the games I have:
Nintendoland is flat out built around the gamepad, almost all the games use it in some way and you probably can't play 80% of the game without it
Super Mario 3D World and Captain Toad both use the Gyroscope for their camera (SM3DW Just on the Cap Toad levels) and both have levels where you need to use the touch screen to tap elements of the level to make them move around
ZombiU is entirely built around the Gamepad with a lot of minigames requiring it, as well as the fact that your inventory is real time used off of it
Pikmin 3 has the controls half touch based and I don't think there's a control option that doesn't use them. -
Yes completely removing the gamepad and creating a lot of confusion for all the people who then don't know if the games will work or not would be bad, so it is definitely not as easy as with removing the kinect for example. :)
-
If Captain Toad requires a gamepad, then I will follow him wherever he goes (even though I always try to avoid the gyroscopic controls by moving the gamepad as minimally as possible). Oh captain my captain!!

Removing the Kinect from the One was more out of desperation, acquiescence, and Microsoft admitting that having an always on Kinect was a unnecessarily dumb idea.

Would it really be cheaper, just because the gamepad is slimmer? I doubt it. Nowadays the slimmer the device the better, it seems. It's probably just a redesigned gamepad rather than a 'budget' one.
Anyways, the Wii U is already pretty darn cheap!
-
Not that essential, if it's mostly used as an alternative screen, instead of actually having heavy new gameplay mechanics.
Aren't there certain screens in the settings that say "Look at your Wii U gamepad to fill in the details"?
-
No gamepad means no Wonderful 101 and I refuse to live in a world where that's how things are.

Sure hope Luigi's not canoncially left handed otherwise he's shitfucked.

Someone is going to make thousands of dollars re-selling that.
-
Reminds me of a Luigi figure I used to have but I broke it by accident. :_;
-
Speaking of Luigi, I'm still kicking myself for missing out on the Club Nintendo Luigi's Mansion figure…
-
Yes, got Zelda! Now to find Luigi for my brother.
-
I DID IT!
I just bought Captain Falcon!
Due to shipping cost, it ended up totaling out to $27, but I got him. He should be shipping to me not too long from now, I'll have him sometime in January thanks to mail delays caused by Christmas.
Zelda is preparing to ship to me right now and thanks to Amazon Prime will be here Friday!!
I have Megaman, Toon Link, and Shiek on preorder! Soon, I will have ALL The Amiibo I've wanted! (The Zelda Characters and my mains)
Huzzah!
Yes, got Zelda! Now to find Luigi for my brother.
I recommend Play Asia.
You pay a little more because you're importing it and shipping it from Japan, but they don't seem to have ANY out of stock, and the prices are holding firm at $20 each before shipping.
Vs. Amazon right now which is marking up the rarer ones. Luigi is $30.99 BEFORE Shipping.
-
I think I managed to get a hold of a villager and marth amiibo for £10 each. If only I can get wii fit trainer
-
@Rin: actually I found Luigi in a Toys R Us, heh. Now I think I'm set until Wave 3.

http://mynintendonews.com/2014/12/17/miyamoto-briefly-talks-about-star-fox-on-wii-u/
A few details on Starfox Wii U
- -Miyamoto says that he is working on and playing the new Star Fox every day and jokes that his hands hurt as a result.
-IMO this is this is pretty big news since this confirms that he (and Nintendo for that matter as opposed to an outside company) are working on it directly. - -Describes the basic gameplay: Cinematic (3rd person) view on the big screen, cockpit view on the gamepad. You are meant to split between the two while you are playing.
This sounds like the behind closed doors E3 2014 demo. - -In response to a His favorite Star Fox character is fox (he jokes that his eyebrows make him look like a Fox).
- -Re-tells the anecdote about the shrine near him (with Torii gates that inspired the gameplay on the first Star Fox) that has a fox as the patron spirit.
- -He confirms that it will have Amiibo support.
It is implied that it will be something on the level of the minor support in Mario Kart (this is partly my speculation).

Zelda is finally shipping. Got delayed for some reason. Woo!
Now just the wait until wave 3. Shulk and Mega Man are pre-ordered, and waiting on the sidelines to see what to do about Rosalina and Sonic. There's more than a month for supplies to increase, come on Nintendo. Worst-case scenario I'll take Rin's hint and import, because there's no way I miss out on a third party and one of my mains.
Then after that it's the wait for Palutena, Robin, Ness, Duck Hunt, Jigglypuff, Bowser Jr., Dark Pit, and Pac-Man. Mr. Game and Watch as a maybe, not a must.
Assuming they happen. And Mii. If that ever happens. -
I also preorder Zelda from Amazon as well. The only other characters that I'm waiting for are Shiek and Duck Hunt.
-
Oh yeah, some megaman games are in sale cause of its aniversary in the e-shop.
-
Even though it was very likely, we now have confirmation that "Mario Maker" will have map sharing.

Awesome. I'm not too sure on Mario Maker, because if my Smash custom stages are anything to go by, I suck at making interesting levels. But to play people's insane levels, now that sounds like a blast.

Play Asia or an actual store?
-
HYES! Captain Falcon and Zelda have both shipped! They're coming from different places via different companies. Zelda will be here tomorrow, while the good Captain will probably be here around early-mid January thanks to economy shipping and Christmas.
But I don't care. Soon, my amiibo will be able to Show ME His Moves. I'll raise that boy right. You'll see.

This is really good news, tho was kindof expecting this (I mean, what'd be the point of a game where you make Mario levels if you can't show them off to people?)
One thing I really hope tho, I hope you can also make an overworld. It'd be nice if we could basically make our own Mario Games wholesale.
-
My Falcon amiibo shipped as well. now the wait.
-
Now if only there was a fresh, running supply of GC adapters

Nintendo is working on fixing the pipes right now.
It will flow again. You'll see.

Well, the chance was always there. Smash Bros doesn't have level sharing yet (but will in a later update…)
More exclusive amiibos are coming too!

Argh. Figures Meta Knight preorders would be sold out too.
Any predictions for Wave 4 guys? I'm gonna guess….Pac-Man, Jigglypuff, Charizard, Palutena, ZSS, Robin, Greninja, and Ness.

Have they confirmed this? I thought it was just people hoping for it in the future.

Apparently so, according to someone from Nintendo Treehouse.

)DIT: Galaxy the Greninja beat me to it lol -
Ah, it got bundled in with every interesting online feature ever (well I guess tournament mode got mentioned separately). Wonder how long it will take them to make the game what it should have been at launch…
-
Play Asia or an actual store?
Amazon actually. Had 1 left of each, said they had a wii fit as well but when I got to counter it was gone. Debating if I sell or use :/
-

I know that this is all functionality lunarmagic has had for nearly a decade, but I, too, want a streamlined, official full-mario-game-maker. please let me pick the music for my stages, too.
-
Shy can't amiibo be as popular as the wii u so I wouldn't have to worry about finding them

I'm bracing for the fact that the next couple of waves will be the ones to break me, given so many of my wanted ones are still missing and so many I don't care about are in the current waves.
My guesses are: Ness, ZSS, Bowser Jr., Pac-Man, Charizard, Pikmin & Olimar, Greninja and Ganondorf
Why not, let's predict exclusives too:
ZSS for Best Buy
Ness for Gamestop (because fuck, that's why)
Greninja for Toys r' Us
Bowser Jr. for Target
