Just thought it was worth mentioning about this. Square decided to make a new Tomb Raider game based on the origins of Lara Croft.

kinda interested in how it goes. I've heard nothing but great things for the Guardian of Light. But then again. This is the same lot who gave us XIII

Lara in the mud. Is it supposed to excite us.

I only played Tomb Raider 1 and 2. They were decent games. However, I never found Lara of the PS1 era to be attractive. Chun li, Cammy anf Jill Valentine were way more beautiful.

Just because Square-Enix now owns the developer and property does not mean they're the same people. Final Fantasy XIII has no connection to this.

What? More origins? Didn't we get enough in Legends?

Get nuts or go crazy trying.

Legend's events happened after Tomb Raider 1/Anniversary. This one seems to be the true Tomb Raider 0.

Until Legend, I never really cared about the series. But the Legend/Anniversary/Underworld trilogy was really good, although not better than Uncharted 2. Give it a try if you can, I'm sure you can find them for a few bucks.

As Buuhan previously said, you can't say that Just Cause 2 or Disgaea 4 suck just because the society who recently made a terrible game owns the developpers of these games.
I for one am very confident.

                          Why try reviving it

This needs to be mentioned in bold in virtually every discussion about SE these days.

SQUARE ENIX IS A BIG TIME PUBLISHER THESE DAYS. THAT MEANS THEY PUBLISH GAMES THAT VARIOUS "OTHER" "STUDIOS" DEVELOP.

Reviving? I was never under the impression it died. It was MIA for a number of years between Angel of Darkness (2002-2006?) and Legend (because AoD was so badly received), but it never died. The series has always been relevant, it's not considered a particularly "great" series for various reasons, and each game is littered with problems, but gamers are generally opened for some Lara Croft.

@stephen: Yep. S-E has become such a juggernaut they no longer have to depend on hiring people and getting a game made, they simply buy a studio and their properties. S-E could own all of gaming one day. >> Kinda scary. Nay, really scary.

Oh yeah, they've been consistently trying to pump out Tomb Raider games haven't they. I kind of forgot, since it's so easy to pass it by and nobody really cares, or talks, about them.

And it's still totally an irrelevant franchise. I just remember after Angel of Darkness there was some hype because they were trying to "re-invent" and get back to its roots. I played that game some and then suddenly it's a blur and now we're several more Tomb Raider games down the line, just getting by on "solid" games.

It's actually funny, I've heard that Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light or whatever it's called is actually a great game

and everyone I've played says it probably hurt itself by being attached to the Tomb Raider name. Which I don't find surprising, since Tomb Raider is just… a name now. It's just "that series" with "that main character". It just gets by by being Tomb Raider and not being terrible. But I can't imagine anybody cares that much anymore, the name cannot carry the weight it used to (and at that it only carried anything through 1997-2000). The only way anybody could ever try caring about Lara Croft again is if they just chucked her, shut her away, and stuck her there for a decade before trying again.

ANOTHER REBOOT? Jeez just stop already. Guardians of light was kinda fun but comeon just kill it already.

Although she looks very beautiful now.

                                          Hmmm….

I'm of two minds. One is that I believe the Tomb Raider franchise, as a whole, is far past its prime. Lara Croft especially is less a character and more a cartoon version of a caricature of a poor character. Its really bad. Not to mention with the number of games they have put out, the world may be a little too over exposed to her to care much about the Tomb Raider games anymore.

On the other hand, this new direction and look are amazing. She looks like a person now as apposed to a creepy Real Doll that learned to walk. The rugged, bloodied look and desperate eyes sell that she is a real person of skill in a situation that requires all she has and more. As a game, this is looking like a great experience.

So, can a new direction save a tired franchise? Not sure. They may have done better with a new name (something like "Born" would have been cool). I need to see how I feel about the character when this game comes out to see if I am interested in this.

So many people in the world. And so many bullets. Lots and lots of bullets.

                                            @GuetaMinute:

Japan only has 2 good devs left: Atlus and Nintendo

I don't know if Nintendo counts.
