It has been his own choice, but it is all leading up to him becoming Pirate King, unless you are saying he won't become pirate king in the end. People have satted that there are similarities between Luffy and Roger. Luffy now holds a memento which was owned by the previous pirate king.

Ah, now the hat being a METAPHOR for destiny is plausible. But let's not throw words into the poor boy's mouth. Not once did he attempt to make the point his conclusion.

The hat certainly does show a promise for great things yet to come. But let's make things clear, in no way whatsoever was Luffy ever DESTINED to be anything. If you can find me proof of ANYTHING pointing to something STATING that Luffy was CHOSEN to be the next king, then by all means please show me.

I think he was looking at Franky. I'd be surprised if he was shocked at anything Sanji did, more like he'd be smirking at what Sanji is doing

I agree entirely about what is more in-character, and I thought that as well (and was going to comment on this to everyone thinking that Zoro was reacting strongly to Franky way earlier), but the sound effect that Oda used was definitively the one for "flinching". Yawning is a different one, by far. So I think he was shocked by seeing Franky do something weird (since he hadn't been there for a franky show earlier, and probably hadn't talked with franky much since showing up).

Edit: ON THE OTHER HAND, it is entirely possible that he turned his head to yawn, and then flinched with his mouth still open upon seeing franky messing around.

Yes, I noticed the sound effect there, and this's exactly what I suspect. I'm just disappointed that no one else noticed. I'm also curious as to what Oda was thinking as he drew that hairstyle on him.

But seriously, "owning a hat that some other guy wore some time" does not equal "destined to be just like Roger and do everything that Roger ever did". Roger gave it to Shanks before he actually became King anyways. Roger has the hat, Shanks has the Hat, Luffy has the hat… Even if Luffy does become the King of the Pirates, it won't be because he wore a hat. The hat simply gets passed around. Luffy may or may not give it to someone else later, who knows. Either way, it's a relic, that Luffy happens to have, and it's an important artifact in the series. That's all, you guys. No need to get all freaked out because Roger used to wear a spiffy Straw Hat.

I'm too lazy to see if this has been brought up, but has anyone mentioned the covered cart next to Franky when Kuma is walking away? Personally I'm highly interested in knowing if this thing just has weapons and materials, or if perhaps it's some sort of machine to place in Dock 4 or something of the sort.

anyhow, i don't think the brothers will attack, like he said in the last
panel: i hope this time they let us on their ship.
I think they'll try to get friendly with the strawhats trying to join,

and showing that the straw hat was originally Rogers added even more significance to shanks giving Luffy the hat and i can see Luffy giving the hat to a kid he see's potential in at the end of the manga .
i just hope Oda keeps up the awsomness of the post timeskip chapters

But right after the panel with Roger Raylight himself said: "It seems like everything that happend was inevitable. Destiny is slowly taking its shape."

And even if he doesnt mean it so explicitly, it implies that you just have to get the strawhat and destiny will make you the pirat king.
And I can imagine that quite a lot people are a little worried with the whole "The Chosen One"-thing, that was highlighted lately. Especially since its a rather new concept in OP.

I envision the exact opposite. Sanji and Zoro will be so busy arguing over who gets to fight then that they will miss the fight altogether, meanwhile luffy takes them all out with a Gatling .

My take on the whole destiny thing is split into a couple of parts:

It's a story, of course things are destined to happen, because in the OP world we know there is a god… Oda. Also it's inacurate to say that Luffy looks like Roger, it's the other way around, Roger looks like Luffy.

From the stories point of view it's all about what you believe. Looking back on the past it's easy to say that something was destined to happen, and if you believe in destiny then that is what you will say. A lot of characters in OP believe in fate or destiny or whatever, it's a strong motif in OP. Whether or not it's luck or destiny or chance or anything else things still happen.

I am a little late to the arguments about destiny and missed them but I still felt like putting my view out there. There's no reason to reply or get any of the arguments started up again (also I won't be able to reply because I am going to sleep now).

Great chapter, easily the most consistently ineresting one since the time-skip occurred: some mysteries have light shed on them, while hinting at further goodies down the road.

As a sidenote regarding Sanji, I remember someone on here saying his time spent in the Kamabakka Kingdom would "teach him" how to fight women. It's abundantly clear that Sanji is even more greatly incapacitated in the presence of women now - particularly beautiful ones.

Is it just me or is Nami acting more mature in these past few chapters? Like WAY more. Not just more mature, but level headed too. I mean, it IS to be expected, but it was just something I noticed. Like, if I were to compare her now to her pre-timeskip, when they were going down, for example, I think she would be more slack jawed instead of just amazed. Or is it just me?

I am one of the few who doesn't mind that Roger once had the strawhat but this is where I would draw the freaking line. This would annoy the hell out of me. I really hope this does not happen.

I was going to say this but stopped in my tracks because I knew someone would reply with 'hey, shouldn't someone have mentioned that Luffy has Roger's same freaking hat.'

It's hard to tell how widely known it is that Roger wore that hat and equally impossible to tell how widely known it is what his DF powers were if he had any at all.

Have faith, guys…..There are tons of awesome things that await us in the new world and Roger's fruit is definitely not Luffy's since you have to wait 50 years for two users to have the samle DF.
