I'm currently reading the Arabasta arc with Null's scanlations… Now, they're not the worst I've ever read, but a lot of the wording and translations are so damn awkward. I catch myself constantly having to reread a line to understand what they meant. I do know about Stephens scripts, but it's a royal pain in the ass to keep switching from reader to browser every time I need to check something, which is a lot. So are there any other better scanlations out there for the Arabasta arc (I'm currently at Nami vs Ms. Doublefinger)?
Any better way of reading the Arabasta Arc?

dude. just take a trip to a good bookstore and read the viz volumes.
-
^^Viz's translation threw the Arabasta arc blew also, to be fair.
-
im gonna disagree, to be fair.

You may think Viz's translation of the Alabasta arc is bad, but at least it has what he's looking for.
Understandable translations, consistency and easy reading.

boom. exactly. and no browser, just plain paper thats easy to read (if you're one of those people who can't read pixelated stuff for long)

Theres only one solution. Watch the alabasta arc anime and then go back after your done and read the manga.

hahaha that will make one feel MUCH better about the manga

nah they screw up the whole okama thing, and bon-chans speech doesn't read as well, major problems for me

I agree that Viz's translation is probably much more coherant and thus fitting the bill for the TS request…but do you honestly like the translation? I suppose it wasn't that bad by Arabasta and I think it is fine now (in the latter volumes) but the earlier volumes were painful.
I am not saying people shouldn't buy them either. I own them all and if someone likes OP enough to be on AP they should support OP in any way they can.

hmm…I went a grabbed the first few volumes out of my shelf to see if I could come up with any glaringly bad examples of Viz's translation. I hate how they over emphasize the pirate-lingo thing in the early volumes but there was much less then I remember. I concede, the TS should go to his local B&N's or Borders or wherever to read Viz's stuff. Looking threw them made me want to re-read the old volumes again.

haha. I suppose it is a rarity for people to admit when they are wrong on online forums, especially AP (meaning yes, I am serious). It was only a few months ago that I started my re-read of OP (which I finished about a month back) but I still think I will re-read the first 4 volumes or so for fun in the days to come.

you know, i own volumes 1-55 and the shonen jumps with the chapter contents of 542-572. every time i reread One Piece, I always yearn to go back and read the beginning whenever I get toward the latest chapters. Dunno why….

Yup! They did sometimes overdo the pirate lingo but I forgot about that. If you really hate it that much, they don't do it anymore. Except recently, Whitebeard said "scalawags" and some people threw a shitfit because of it.

That is one of the wonderful things about One Piece. I can re-read it in it's entirety right now and there are very few sports that drag for me (quite the feet for a series it's length). Also things currently, post time skip I mean, are only looking up. Being a OP fan is just awesome.
I own volumes 1-55 but I don't own even a single issue of SJ. I envy you.

Yea they got better. I did state that the problem was only targeted at the early volumes. I own them all. Didn't hear about the WB thing, that's funny.

hahaha yes, i knew there would be no speedup for the marineford and impel down volumes so a year ago when they first showed it, i vowed to collect em from that point forward. I don't think the whole pirate lingo thing is too horrific, after all, its an english thing and not a japanese thing.

I wish I would have done that. Now I have to wait until freaking February for vol 56.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. And for the record, I've watched the anime all the way through, and once I caught up, I started reading the manga. Decided that I wanted to read the source material though, and I gotta say, I think I like the manga better (and I fucking loved the anime). So now I'm reading the manga while I re-watch the anime. Anyways, another question. Do the Null scans get any better? I've seen people say they do a really good job, so I'm assuming the translations get better after a while.

heh heh heh….and 57, which i have all of in chapters.....and all of 58 except 573...*rubs it in
Hahaha relax. After all, the creator of this thread can tolerate scanlations (well, certain types) and they do exist for all those volumes. Why don't you find a website that has all the one piece chapters and read them there? Why do you need a particular scanlator?
