I honestly thought that it was one of the best chapter of this arc.
Certainly one of the most memorable chapters, but a bit lacking in the action department no?
What the anime thrives on is fast paced action scenes…not 10 minutes of reaction faces at the start of the episode 
I prefer the chapter to the episode, but I have got to give the anime teams props for handling it almost perfectly especially the hug scene.
Now the real action starts!

@ Gangasta Luffy: Yeah it was lacking in action but One Piece is more than action. it is also about honor, friendship, dreams and courage. This chapter made totally change my first impression of WB (archaic overconfident pirate). I realized he was more than a random guy with random power. His personality makes the epic.
part from that, I consider episode 21 "Zoro vs Mihawk" the best adapatation of the manga. The fight lasts one episode (in the manga it was 3 I think). Mihawk's entrance was handled perfectly. The intensity and the emotion of the scenes were well done.
Seriously, Toei does not spend their budget wisely. Crappy fillers of Naruto have better animation that the canon episodes. It should be the opposite. You should save your budget for the canon episodes.
Uh…..Studio Pierrot makes the Naruto anime, not Toei.

No problem. I can't think of a OP episode that ever got as bad as that Naruto vs Pain monstrosity.

No where in hell. The only episode that kind ticked me off was when Zoro vs Mr1. When the stone rubbles fell when Mr1 tried to slice Nami. the animation was awkward but not bad enough to make me go insane.
Even SF4 the ties that bind anime had a very low budget handled it better.

No, One Piece never got to the distorted extremes that that infamous episode of Shippuden did. The worst it got was Little Garden, where they couldn't draw a properly proportioned model for the life of them.

I thought how they captured the emotions surrounding the stabbing were pretty well done, but to me it felt sort of boring to say the least

main gripes were that i was a little bored and it felt weird that the allied pirates were refering to WB as "old buddy" ? pretty random imo haha
I'll admit though that when whitebeard was hugging squardo, all I can think of was Whitebeard just pulling him towards his wound and getting him to kiss it better
Oh and lastly, I thought Aokiji's mini-scene was amazing and made the episode for me.

Once again the manga version felt more epic. I thought that it would have been more epic if they kept a still image of WB jumping.
When he came from above it was kind of weird.
''Old buddy''? Geez FUNi, get your act together.
Despite this episode just being a bunch of exposition, it was good. I liked how they fleshed out Squardo's backstory a little bit, and added Luffy's reaction to finding out that Whitebeard wanted to make Ace the Pirate King since Ace told him otherwise. Speaking of Luffy, this is the first time I can remember him blinking since Sabaody.

FUCKING FINALLY! I was waiting for the sky to get all dark clouds and chaotic like in the manga. The clouds should of been dark since the war began, it did look kind of off to have a major war in such nice sunny weather IMO… :ninja:

Wow, it's safe to assume that, even though Sengoku and Newgate may or may not be around the same age range, that Newgate is the one that shows more feeling. And the scenes where Marco yelled, I went like, wow, someone give him Tensa Zangetsu and a hollow voice auto-tuner cause I feel like I'm watching the trailer for Jigoku-hen again-v-;;. Really good episode overall^^.
this was a good episode even though the only action was the allied pirates getting blown away by kuma's. that akainu is one slick s.o.b.
also cut Funi some slack this is a fast sub. not like this gonna be on the dvd in 5 years

This was a really good episode. I wasn't disappointed.
-The reaction shots were well done (especially Moria's. Kishishishishi)
-The animation was excellent. Akainu looked very menacing,
-Luffy looked a little off in this episode, but no biggie.
-The mini-filler flashback with Squardo meeting Whitebeard and befriending Ace was a nice addition.
-Whitebeard hugging Squardo was as heartwarming as it was in the manga.
Really well done episode with a lot of emotion and manly tears. T^T
Next week is when shit gets serious.
