I already have the program I need (Active Gif), but I have some trouble.
Capturing animation from BS player. I hold down P, and a lot of the time it skips a few frames. Also, sometimes the captures come out in weird colors.
actually animating the image. When I load the frames into the program, the colors look werird a lot of the time, and it either goes too fast or too slow or something.
I'm having a lot of trouble with this crap…
Hmmm… I tend to hit pause and use the arrow keys to frame advance and manually snap the frames I want.
Active gif I can't comment on as I haven't tried it. The only animated gif I have made was done with easy gif animator.
For creating active GIF's, I use Adobe ImageReady (v7.0). Although, I do find it somewhat confusing, so I might not be much help when it comes down to how to get it to work altogether. With it, I know you can edit how long certain frames last for for sure. I think you can edit transitions as well. Sorry, it's been a while since I used that program to make a .GIF, but it might be worth a look into if you have it.
As for capturing images to make a .GIF, I don't know. I haven't really tried to make a- Oh wait, there was that one time I tried. I think I paused the frame and print screen'd it to paint. It was taking forever so I stopped sometime in and didn't go back to it. Er, once again, I don't think I'll be of the best help here, but maybe something will spark a good idea in your mind.
I make a clip in Windows Movie Maker. Save it as an AVI. Import it into Image Ready. Shrink it. Crop it. Save optimised as. Done.
Ah, that sounds much easier, EGX. Thanks for your help, everyone, I'll try EGX's way now. (I'll post results later)
Edit: how… exactly do I make a clip? And how do I say it as an avi?

I usually play the movie in WMM2 and cut it from there.
EDIT: WMM2 is Windows Movie Maker 2 to clarify.
I use VirtualDub to get the frames I want. Real easy to use.
I use AVS video converter for screen captures. I like that program a whole lot, since it's really easy to use.
Virtual Dub for the capture + Jasc Animation shop 3 for the culling, resizing, brightness & colour adjustment & if I needed, text or image effects.
