With the whole scar on Zoro's eye, Oda might be trying to make a comparison between the Strawhats and the Roger pirates.
Luffy and Roger are both captains, Zoro and Rayleigh are both first mates.

So what can we say, Luffy is really fast with his gears second and also strong. He has defeated all the guys above and has fought vice admirals. And he was 17/18. I would rank him as a low Vice Admiral there.
Now 2 years later, he has grown a lot stronger. He is 2 years older so he should be more manly and be physically stronger. With all the training he mostlikely also got a lot faster and he now can use all sorts of Haki.
He is atleast at the level of a High Vice Admiral and strong enough to hold out against an Admiral (not defeat but atleast hold out long enough to make a run for it)

Smoker is Luffy's answer to Garp.

He'll stay as someone who can compete with Luffy (at least) for the rest of the comic.

If you go back to the first 11 pages of this thread you'll see that being repeated over and over again.

Me too, I hope Oda saves the story of each one's scars for the right time.

Since you guys mentioned smoker, I was thinking before, how could his DF be used in an offensive way?
The only thing I find good about his DF is that its a logia, but that's pretty useless when you're using haki.

Man oh man, people are totally gung-ho about Luffy's power up. Admiral level? That would be a Bleach-level mistake.

I expect the Mugiwara to go against Sentoumaru and his Pacifistas, and do well. Remember, the first time they were pretty much hopeless. They would have been annihilated if Rayleigh/Kuma didn't show up. If they are able to stand their ground against sumo-dude and his crew, that's enough for me. I look forward to Sentou's shock when he gets a Gomu Gomu Haki Fist sandwich to his grill.

BTW, I really wanted to see Sanji's reaction when he would have first seen Luffy w/ Hancock and the Kuja pirates. He would have been depressed for years after that one.

The only problem besisdes I have with the new thing is that Zoro's eye seems to switch sides. Oh well, for a guy who's been drawing the same characters in the same way for 10 years and suddenly drawing a drastic change there's bound to be mistakes.

it was coated in the jelly which was touched by robin and said to be ble to with stand the high pressures of the ocean

So Zoro's single slash was more powerful than the depth of the ocean minimum

He won't unless he somehow learned haki. Not to mention that it would be preposterous someone from the mugiwara crew, not being Luffy, could take on an admiral at this point. That should be more for the end of the series, not right now.

The reason blades are able to cut is because the impart an amount of force over a very small area.

Example: You can stand on a soda can without damaging it. Take a needle and with much less force you can poke holes in the can destroying it, while using much less force than that imparted by the weight of your whole body.

Another example: You can have Mike Tyson wailing on a punching bag, with the force of the punches being powerful enough to kill a man, and the bag still wont break. Give a little kid a really sharp sword and he/she will fuck that bag up.
