      So, I got my computer up and running but the wireless card is having trouble. When I download something from the internet it only goes 10-15 KB/s (if that) but if I download with Steam it goes ~500 KB/s and boosts the internet download speed a bit. I updated the drivers for it. Anyone know the problem?

      It's a Linksys Wireless G network card.

        I can't imagine why it would be doing that. Your best best it to find some kind of custom pc forum.

            I gonna take a guess and say he means this.
            It's a software that gives you the possibility to download new games, news and trailers from a certain online platform. I think it does so automatically. Whatever the problem is, this software must have found a way to bypass it somehow. So there definitely is a solution on how to fix it. I just don't have a clue. I wish I could be of more help, Kairouseki! :/

              thanks for explanation tigerhotlilly. Well if thats the case did u try using download managers Kairouseki? or any other software which divides the download into multiple parts and make different connections to download them?

                Hm, it seems that the download rate sometimes sucks with Steam as well :ermm: . I moved it up to my room and it seems to be working well at the moment.

                I posted this on another forum as well, one where the majority of the people have built their own PCs so it's pretty much a technology forum. One person said that he always has trouble with wireless cards and to use a router as a wireless bridge instead.

                If it gets too annoying for me (like if I play TF2 and it sucks) then I might try that but at the moment Steam is really the only thing I need to download with at all since it's a gaming computer. I was just trying to download Firefox, Steam, and all the drivers and that's why it was so annoying.

                  Question: I've been saving for a new pc recently and need some advice. These are the specs, what do you think. And more importantly how do you find the i5 in terms of speed? (as you have the i5)

                  Intel i5 760 Quad Core
                  NVIDIA GTS 450 1GBB Video
                  4GB DDR3 1333MHz Memory
                  1TB SATA-II Hard Drive
                  Gigabyte P55 USB3MB
                  Thermaltake Element-T Case 24X
                  Double DVD±R/±RW HIGH DEFINITION 7.1 AUDIO
                  £629 (£535 ex. VAT)

                      Kairouseki. Is this a laptop or a desktop? I am assuming Laptop because a Linksys Wireless G Card is for laptops.

                      Your laptop does not have built-in wireless? I am assuming your connecting to a wireless router in your home? Is it also Linksys?

                      You might need to make some changes to the routers setting for your Wireless Card. You might want to consider turning off the routers SPI Firewall and make sure all the proper ports are forwarded.

                      You should also go to www.speedtest.net and let me know what your download and upload speeds are. We can iron everything out from there if you are seriously interested in getting this resolved.

                      Looks like a nice decent machine although I will tell you the i7 is better and anything before that in the i series really doesn't stand par with i7.

                      Fire-Fist asked the correct question, the machine build is good depending on what its intended use is.

                        Animation, art & media. So it has to be fast and reliable.

                        I don't think I have the ability to push a processor running at 2.8ghz, though I might be wrong.

                          @Sage

                          It's a desktop. I ran Speed Test and while I don't remember the exact results the download speed was over 1Mb per second for sure and the upload was almost 1Mb per second.

                          @SMUDGE

                          The i5 seems to be working excellently so far. I haven't seen any slowdown at all and every game I have runs like a dream with settings maxed out. I was told that the i7 doesn't really have much that would affect game playing very much but since you're doing other things it might.
