After making three posts I decided that it would be polite to come over here and make an official introduction (even though I'm probably not going to post a lot).

You can call me Nemilla, I live somewhere in Scandinavia and I have been reading One Piece for 5 or 6 years now, whenever they started to publish it in my country. (I had just finished with Ranma 1/2 then and was looking for something new, and the other mangas just were not visually interesting for me. Oda has his own, unique style that is more pleasing for my eyes than the most 'generic' manga styles. The only other manga I have in my bookcase -besides Ranma and OP- is Azumanga Daioh. Hard to please, yes I am.)

I have been lurking around for a couple of years, but before seeing the "History connections"-thread I basically didn't have any reason to actually join. Mostly because I don't think that I can contribute anything relevant to most of the topics. Someone else will say everything I think in a lot better way, anyway.
And also because I'm literally old enough to be the mother of most members here, and my points of view differ probably quite a lot from the majority's. (Let's just say that I'm older than Robin, even after the timeskip and leave it there, OK?)

The character in OP I can relate best is Robin. I really like her sense of humor, and my future profession will also have tight connections with historical research. (After I graduate I will order a T-shirt that says: "IM IN UR MUSEUM SAVING UR CULTURAL HERITAGE".) And yes, I cheered aloud when she dropped that b*stard Yama down. Personally I would have made him suffer even more, that a**hole with no respect for history or archeological sites. grumblegrumble remembers her blood pressure and calms down

I think that's it. Be seeing you! πŸ™‚

No, if you got something to say then say it we have a lot trolls here so I doubt
          your post won't be valuable.

well guess what, we have teachers, parents, old guys and young guys so I don't
see the problem here. and the view of an experienced one is always better.

                Thank you, everyone. πŸ™‚

Ryuunaga: Well, Robin is of course an imaginary manga lady, which makes some of her …proportions quite unreachable for me. (At least without some serious plastic surgery.) But so far nobody has been complaining, I don't get stuck on bus benches and they still asked for my ID this spring when I was buying a couple of bottles of wine, so I guess I'm not that fat, wrinkly or worn out… 😁
Actually I was happy to see Robin in her new hairdo, because I've been toying with the idea of cosplaying her sometime. I have a long hair that I dye black (natural blonde here) and pale blue eyes, so it ought to work. The only thing stopping me has been that damn fringe. Now when it is finally gone I can start planning the costume (and working out seriously again - those clothes require a lot from the female form).

asm00200: You kid! Get off my lawn! waves a walking stick feebly in the air

(No worries. As I said, I have been lurking here for a long, long time, so I already know that you are all mad there.

                I mean here.

                Which means that I---

Psst, sweetie, after timeskip Robin is 30… πŸ˜‰

You see, I'm one of those spee-shul snowflakes who ignored all well-meaning instructions coming from their teachers and parents.
So, (many, many years ago) after graduating from high school/college/whatever you call it, instead of heading to university as I was supposed to (the headmistress of my college was also teaching literature and writing and was pushing me towards journalism) I went to a little adventure myself. I had a multitude of jobs (anything from a security guard to temping as an extra in TV) and studied in three or four different non-professional programs.

Then, after over ten/fifteen/something years roaming around, I finally realised that having at least some security and stability would be nice. (Especially because I was not getting any younger.) So I decided that the time had come to get finally a proper profession. I put all my eggs in one basket, applied to a certain school -and got in with flying colours. My colourful past has actually helped me a lot during the studies, because I have first-hand experience from all kinds of things and cultures. After a couple of years I'll graduate as a BA. I would love to get finally a doctorate, but the employment situation is good, so I'll probably start working right after graduating. Abroad, if there is any chance for it.

I'm a really bad example. Kids, don't do as I did, because I have been incredibly lucky: there has always been some job for me to take when I have been broke. I have sometimes been living from hand to mouth -but the hand has never been empty. It's been really risky living with absolutely no worries about the future -and I wouldn't change one day of it.
