oh goddammit. the one week I won't have access to TV. why is NBC such a terrible network?
-
I only just started watching this show. I can't find past seasons anywhere for instant viewing T_T.
-
Community's exclusively available on Hulu Plus, I think.
-
Just saw it and with that half of this season and(with that I feel like I can have a more grounded less shaky opinion on it) I have to say I'm pretty disappointed.
Now I don't feel like commenting on that bogus about it being the fault of the show losing harmon nor the influence of the internet community because I don't feel like I could say something new or relevant about that.Instead I'm just going to say that I've been staying away the past few months from any kind of reviews from the show just mostly watching it with a friend and it just isn't clicking as much.
The biggest indicator for me of why I don't enjoy them as much as the previous seasons is that I'm barely talking about them to my friends anymore, I haven't posted a single snippet about the new season sharing it with(/annoying) my friends (with it).
The two highpoints for me were the halloween episode and jeff's father and the halloween one didn't even stick with me as much as episodes like the global UN one.
And even if it counts for very little as a metric of quality I just didn't laugh as much in these past 7 episodes.I don't know, I'll definitely continue to watch, just not with the same enthusiasm I had.

I liked this episode, if only for Jeff and Pierce's moments.
-
I thought this was a nice little episode. There hasn't really been any "low concept episodes" this season. It was nice to just see them at school doing school stuff again. Also loved the jokes and the Jeff/Pierce development. No real gripes at all.
-
I've seen a few complaints on Reddit that Community hasn't done an epic episode in a few weeks. Maaan, I miss low concept episodes.
-
Best episode of the Season so far honestly.
Felt much more like early Community. I'm all for concept episodes but they bogged down a lot of season 3 and was starting to think the same of this episode.
Welcome back into my heart Community.
-
That was fine. Nothing special but solid.
-
I LOVED this episode, seriously loved it. It felt as much season 1 as a season 4 episode can feel, and I loved that. The Jeff/Pierce storyline was probably my favorite, but it feel kinda weird to see them bond like this. Still, I loved it, and I actually felt that Chevy Chase cared enough to give out a good performance, especially when he told Jeff about his father.
This season is growing on me, rather quickly as well. I thought it was okay at first, and now it's quickly becoming better than season 3.
-
Agreed with the rest of you guys. Jeff and Pierce bonding made the episode for me.
…Though I kinda enjoyed the subplot with Troy and Shirley, too.
-
Apart from the Annie + Dean shenanigans, this was a very Season 1-esque episode. I liked that.
-
I thought the Annie & Dean plot was actually the most Season 1/2-esque of the episode. Community college antics, the Dean putting on a big massive event. That is what Season 1 was made up of, dances and fairs.
Also forgot to add that I really liked the Jeff and Pierce stuff too. Is this the first subplot that Shirley and Troy have had together?
-
They're first time was Season 4's Halloween episode.
I missed the dances.
-
The next episode features a dance.
-
I know, its super old school too. Britta starting an opposing dance because she disagrees with the original.
-
i liked tonights episode, had a very nice feel to it, nothing too zany, felt like a season one episode <3
and the ending was very…....
-
This episode felt like they took all the best parts of a classic season one episode and rolled them together. It was fantastic.
All the characters where well used (especially Troy with his hijinks,) Abed felt more like a real character than perhaps ever. And I really liked Rachel. I hope she sticks around for the rest of the season. Yeah, she's perhaps too perfect, but I don't really care.
All in all a great episode. The show's really been on a roll lately.
Definitely looking forward to next week.
-
it was a wonderful episode. I liked that Jeff and Pierce have been having good interactions recently. It sort of built up over three seasons, and it's been rocky between them at times. But I think Pierce has mellowed out more for one. I can almost see him as more of a father figure when he's not just spewing racist jokes, and I think there's no better person than him to understand what it's like being treated harshly. I think all the cast had their good moments.
also super excited for next episode.
-
This episode was awesome. Great use of everybody.
Insanely excited for puppets next week!

me too!!! she kinda reminds me of jenna fisher from the office.
-
More than half the season passed and Chevy Chase is still here, and honestly episodes like this have him in a great light. Wonder why he stormed off through production.
-
This episode was truly fantastic. Probably the best episode since Remedial Chaos Theory. Everything about it just worked, the dance was awesome, Pierce was awesome, the Dean's outfit was awesome, the comedy was top notch. Rachel is probably my favorite side character of the show, ever. She's just so sweet, and such a perfect match for Abed.
One thing felt weird though, and that was seeing just Britta and Pierce in scenes together. Was this the first storyline they had together?

There was the subplot in Season 1 where Pierce tried to hypnotise Britta into stopping smoking.
I too loved this episode. Has certainly made me feel much better about the season as a whole. Everything just worked so well. I went from starting the season and hoping it was the last to now, being sad if it does truly end.

Oh yeah, for some reason I forgot about that, even though I love that subplot.
And really, if people still bash on this season after this episode, it's purely because of their complete adoration for Harmon. Because this was better than most episodes during the Harmon era.
-
I can see why people wouldn't like this season, even ignoring the adoration of Harmon stuff. The first few episodes were so hard to watch and just terrible.
The past three though have been fantastic however. Depending on how the rest of the season pans out, I may enjoy it more than Season 3.

Really, you're calling the Halloween episode terrible? I can see why someone would call the premiere terrible, same with the Inspector Spacetime episode (though I really enjoyed that one) but the Halloween one? :(
And I'd say Community has been great for the past 4 episodes. Every since the Thanksgiving episode, the show has really been on a roll.
-
The halloween one probably warrents a rewatch, but when I saw it the first time I just wasn't feeling it as much. Even then, compare it to a lot of Community episodes? When I compare it to my favourite episodes, it is pretty rubbish.
-
I don't know about on a roll. It's back to solid form i'll give it that. This episode was fine. I laughed a lot and really liked that pierce got to do the good guy thing and help britta out. We're halfway through and even rocky start aside this season has yet to wow me. I know some ppl here hate the high concept episodes but im kind of itching for one. At least a parody or an homage to something
-
The halloween episode was much better second time through. When you actually know the mystery it's much more enjoyable.

Next episode is going to be pretty high concept, at least the same kind of high concept as Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas. But I'm one of those who definitely prefer the quieter episodes, hence why I didn't really like season 3. Season 3 was just concept episode after concept episode, and it became kinda tiring.

Season 2:
Space episode
Zombie episode
Bottle Episode
Stop Motion
Dungeons and Dragons
Mockumentary
Critical Film Study
Fake Clip Show
2 part paintball (Western/Space Epic)Season 3:
Chaos Theory
Halloween Stories
Documentary Redux
Musical Christmas
War Documentary
Dreamatorium
Fake Clip Show 2
Video GameThere are more concept episodes in season 2. And I love every episode I listed.
-
It's a good point, but part of the reason the third season felt that way was that so much of the high-concept leaked into the less-so, especially with Abed's storyline, the Dark Timeline, and the Dreamatorium.
-
Yea I get that, but sometimes people talk about Season 2 like its Season 1.
I just see the first three seasons as a natural progression when I watch them in a row.

Well, the thing is, almost every episode in season 3 had something surreal about it, mostly to do with the dark timeline. There are episodes in season 2 which doesn't have a high concept at all, like "Competitive Wine Tasting" and "Custody Law and Eastern European Diplomacy". I know those episodes existed in season 3 as well, for instance "Competitive Ecology". The dreamatorium was in several episodes, and the pillow war was a two-parter.
The only thing I'm saying is that this season has a lot of quieter episodes, and I appreciate that. And even though season 2 might have had more high concept episodes than season 3, I just prefer that season overall.
-
I wouldn't consider the Bottle Episode a concept episode, and the final battle with chang was a concept one. Ocean 11 thingie.

I know what you are saying, you like season 2 more than season 3 because overall it is more grounded. I wouldn't call it "quieter". There isn't really a continuing story in Season 2 so every wacky thing it introduces (and there is a lot of them) are self contained. The latter half of season 3 was made in a vacuum when Community was put on the shelf for a while. Dan Harmon decided to focus on the things his most vocal and supportive fans were going crazy about, thus the dark timeline and dreamatorium episodes. I'm not saying you have to enjoy it more now but that's why it was like that.
And the pillow war's first part was not a concept episode at all. Notice I didn't include the blanket fort episode from season 2 or the trampoline episode either. These are two more episodes from season 2 that had wacky things in them, even if they weren't necessarily concept episodes. Again, I'm not trying to convince you to like season 3 more, I'm just pointing out that its not the polar opposite of season 2. To me its more of a natural progression.

I definitely see what you mean, and somewhat agree. It's just the fact that I don't care for the overarching story in season 3, Troy and Abed has always been two of my least favorite characters and the whole thing about the darkest timeline didn't interest me at all. I prefer when the group does wacky things at the campus rather than doing weird stuff outside of it.
-
Was just about to post that. Holy crap I am excited.
The balloon guide is Sara Bareilles. The first fan video Dan Harmon saw for Community was a shipper video between Jeff and Annie which used her song Gravity. He said it was his first indication that someone was watching his show and actually cared about it. He later lovingly made fun of it in the first clip show episode.
Edit:

Yea, I understand where you're coming from, I liked the story arc setup, myself. And season three was necessary to introduce the idea of a life outside of Greendale. It's necessary if we want six seasons and a movie. I guess I just like that the show is constantly evolving.

Oh yeah, I agree with that. I loved seeing Troy and Abed's apartment, and the episode where the Dean and Jeff met in the mall is still one of my favorites. And still, season 3 is better than most anything on TV as well, so I'm not complaining. :)
-
They're actually going to be puppets next episode? Is the reason known? Or are they just puppets for the heck of it?
-
I read somewhere they undergo a traumatic experience in the woods and recount what happened to the Dean through puppet therapy. I think it was in Entertainment Weekly or something.
Edit: Here it is

i see a sara bareilles cameo as weather balloon lady, nice shout out to her song gravity from last season
-
Yea that was pretty clever.
I think the idea behind the episode was a lot better than the actual episode.
-
So the balloon guide person is a singer, is the mountain guy one too? I was just about to ask who both of them were.
-
I liked it quite a bit. It as sweet and it was sappy, and the songs were good. Any excuse to get the cast singing is always going to be welcomed by me.
Still I think they should have played it straight an not gone back to the study room so much. I'd give it a solid B+That said, there were some amazing jokes: The line about Duncan, the Ertha Kitt joke, Abed's LOST references, Puppet Chang saying "He's not what he seems killed me, and I know there were a few others that got a good chuckle out of me.
Jason Alexander was really random.

So the balloon guide person is a singer, is the mountain guy one too? I was just about to ask who both of them were.
The Balloon guide is Sara Barellis, the lady who sang "Gravity" the song used for all the shipping flashbacks in Paradigms of Human memory. The other guy is Jason Alexander. You know, George from Seinfeld.

I was promised the music of Adam Levine, NBC.
Where was the music of Adam Levine?
A "The Voice" reference hardly makes up for this.
