(2.5) Akira is good but I've never been able to get into it for whatever reason. Same for BotI, some parts captivate me completely but it sometimes comes across as lifeless. Shamo (fantastic.)
Tier 3
Ippo up to about chapter 650 or so was simply the best, it caught the locker room atmosphere and camaraderie perfectly. It sort of went to shit but its still a good read.
Fist of the North Star/Blue Sky. Of course One Piece and HxH. Shout out to Kinnikuman too.
Honourable mention to Baki and Garouden, they may be trash but I love em to bits.

As for the rest I see what you're saying, the last set of chapters did come off as though I were reading overwrought Lord of the Rings style fantasy narration, but at the same time it was entertaining so even though it's absurd for it to be placed in a manga I could look past it. Though other than GI arc there weren't any stretches that I found painful though it does have longer gaps of no action than One Piece for sure. And HxH has an unpredictability that is another plus point for it (not unpredictably stupid, the good kind).

I actually have some things to recommend, butā¦ first, I want to go in with Chicken on this one. Because 20th Century Boys and FMA being on the same level of Bleach, Naruto, Inuyasha... I'm not sure if I want to suggest anything until I know your tastes better.

I hated most of 20CB's plot twists. I was never impressed or surprised. The same (roughly) applies to Monster but I really liked Tenma as a character.

Some of the plot twists were a little silly, but I found the series very enjoyable overall. The character development in particular was great IMO. I guess it's one of those 'Your Mileage May Vary' series.

I should mention that it's not a story with a long span of chapters, but rather a collection of shorts and tales. Also I should mention is that in no way is it fantastic - in the sense of magic, advanced technology and such, there won't be any to find. Most, if not all of it, is set in the days of Japan not long after the second world war, and focuses on the lives of people there, as well as the repressive and downtrodden atmosphere abundant at the time. The art style is minimalist, in the sense that the author is reserved with his detail, giving most people a similar appearance, deviating only when it serves a purpose to the story being told, while at the same time giving a good amount of attention to the environment and the things with which the characters interact. There's some rather interesting black humor to it, but it's often hard to tell whether it's intentional or not.
But I'm not here to write an essay, I'll let you decide.

Not as much as Dragon Ball, Fist of the North Star or even JJBA.
I see some of you are very critic with Urasawa. I think he is a genius. And, sht, what the fck is happening with Billy Bat? Are the scanlators doing a 4 month hiatus??? Or is Urasawa the one doing the damn hiatus?? This series was going to places that Naoki never dared before (he was messing with history and even religion in a very interesting way), and it was still very confusing and misterious, when. . .it just stopped. WTF.
I don't know if I can properly divide the mangas I've read into Tiers (not that I have read that MUCH manga). But well, I'll try:
TOP-of-the-TOPS Tier: Best Seinens: 20th Century Boys, Berserk, Vagabond;Best Shounen: One Piece, Slam Dunk, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2.
Not-so-Top-but-Pretty-Top Tier: Pluto, Monster, Dragon Ball (mainly first part), Akira (SUBLIME art, messy-but-good storyline), Eyeshield 21 (Silver Medalist of Sports Manga), Kurosawa(POWERFUL STUFF), Hokuto no Ken.
Between BAD and MEDIOCRE-At-BEST Tier: Fairy Tail, Gantz, Shamo, Elfen Lied, High School of the Dead.
F*UCK IT Tier: Naruto (Some part are very good, but the overall feeling of shittynes wins), Bleach, The World is Mine.
NOTE: From what I get from the majority of you guys, is that it's a MUST to read Nausicaa, Lone Wolf and Cub, and, to a lesser degree, Hunter x Hunter (although, me not being a big YuYu Hakusho fan, I don't know if I will like it).
NOTE 2: I dropped mangas like Black Cat and Vinland Saga out of pure boredom, specialy Black Cat. It was beyond bland. Not terrible, just. . .blandness itself personified.
I see some of you are very critic with Urasawa.
So far, lots of his manga are in people's high/middle tier list.
I think Naruto is overall underrated.

Well, as I said, manhua, manhwa and manga share a lot of similarities. So I guess it is feasible to compare series from those catagories easily.
As for western comicsā¦ no. They are fundamentally different mediums (apart from the fact that they are both visual), so there would be no need to include any of those in any tier you might make.
I've only read and watched One Piece, Bleach and Naruto, among a few others, so I'm not going to make any lists now. I like Naruto and Bleach, but not because I consider them quality series. I like them because of their setting and some of their characters. Still, I agree with Tsukishima on Naruto being kind of underrated. I don't think it's as bad as many people have said. It also has one character that I really like. As for One Piece, I think the manga is great, while the anime is good.
These tiers do give me ideas as to what to start reading next.

Dont waste your money like i did. The beginning was okay thought ,but you will never get to the last volumne! Its again and again and again always the same shit and the main charas justā¦have no development over the whole story.
So after you read the first 4-5 volumnes you just can skip the rest and read the last volumne.
I always hoped it gets somewhere better but instead i was rly bored of the whole manga and after i think 11 volumnes i finally stopped torturing myself.
<-- and hey, i watched the whole Hikaru no Go anime without knowing why exactly cause iam not even interested in GO.
So when i can stand this and not 3x3 eyes..think for yourself.
