@Greg:
Mark was strange. Will was doing his thing.
Mark wasn't strange he was playing the part of a frustrated cop, and I think he did it rather well. The only thing strange about his character was the love interest. That was out there and unneeded I thought.
All one scene of them jumping from the roof. The launching the car from the bus was wicked but really nothing funny.
The car launching was fun. As was their speech in the prescient. As for their jump off the building when they said aim for the bushes I was like wow really, this I wanna see. Then as the camera panned and there were no bushes I was like wow… I figured they'd land in the bushes and get fucked up, not die.
Both of them are cliched. Which wouldn't be horrific if they only popped up once, but come on.
"Nerdy guy going to be badass, and oh, it's Will Ferrel, I wonder if it's going to be innappropriate music for the scene."
In fact the same exact gag is in MACGRUBER which I thought was dumb as hell in that too until they kicked it up a notch with removing the deck. That was funny as SHIT because it's so true.
Ok you got me there, MACGRUBER definately handled it better.
Random celebrity stuff is hit and miss. I liked the punch at Arod myself.
I thought they both sucked in this.
I agree with punching out A-Fraud, really don't like the guy. Did you notice Jeter as the homeless guy at Nathans in the final scene? I didn't notice it till someone pointed it out to me.
The Other Guys had moments mentioned above, and the bribe scene was funny in that they actually threw a shit-ton of money into pulling an old Simpsons-esque gag in live action. But it was too long and the narrative, even for a comedy, was too disjointed.
The bribe scene was hilarious. Between that and the assistant offering them the exotic drinks. there was definately a showing of a Simpson influence on the movie but I don't think that hurt it in any way but rather added to the laughs and the story line rather nicely.
It sometimes borderlined on Family Guy randomness. Whereas with MACGRUBER you knew what to expect from which characters.
I don't really agree with the Family Guy randomness comparison. Family Guy randomness is something far out whit little to not relevancy to the story. Where as the randomness of The Other Guys was there but always contributed to the story, with the exception of the aforementioned mark Love story.
Oh plus Will + Eva communictaing and talking dirty too each other via Eva's Mom was hilarious. And Michael Keaton as the Captain and the Manager of a Bed Bath & Beyond was pretty damn funny too.
