Would you be ok with shortened openings?

Not to jump the gun here, but the way things are going at the moment, it seems like a safe bet that Nicktoons just may be the site of One Piece's US TV revival, if it gets another chance at all.

Though, as we've seen with Dragon Ball Z Kai, it's opening had to be trimmed down to about a minute, probably because of time restraints and broadcasts standards ect. It'd be better if they'd keep the whole openings like CN did with most of their anime, but I guess we can't count on that happening.

But would you guys mind if they did that to One Piece's openings? I mean, I think if it had to be done, it would be fine, I don't think it would be too bad. Take opening 1 for example, just cut out the narrator part at the beginning, and you've still got a solid just-over-a-minute-long opening. The narration of the treasure being in one place and stuff could always be stated in an ad or something. but I wouldn't want the sloppy treatment Funi did with the shortened Kai opening. (Out-of-place scenes, not syncing with the music ect.)

But yeah, feel free to share your opinions on this.

Oh, sorry, I was just reffering to the news about how Nicktoons was apparently interested in a few more Funi properties a few weeks back. It's not a confirmation of anything, but yeah, this is sort of a "what if" thing.

It's just an opening. As long as they do it like Dragon Soul I really wouldn't mind.

I wouldn't mind, cuz the DVDs would still have the full openings intact, so I wouldn't mind if they trim the TV openings down.

Personally I wouldn't even mind IF they made a GOOD short U.S. original Opening. I was always a fan of the US opening of Digimon season 4 over the Japanese version, but thats just me.

I believe, with no doubt in my mind, that the show would do better if it had a nice short American-made intro. Because, most of the people I tried to show the series to, felt a disconnect immediately.

Besides its not like We Are, Believe, or most of the other intros actually scream "THEME SONG".

I think 4kids was right in the fact that they wanted to change the theme to broaden the show's audience. And, they were successful for most people remember One Piece because a. Rubber Captain Luffy, or b. the rap.

what exactly are you trying to say here? make an opening for people with short attention spans? and not everything has to be rap

I recall many people (Myself included) loving the short US made "Rock the Dragon" Opening for Dragon Ball Z, so much that when they hear "Cha-La" they feel it's too childish.

I love "We are" but maybe a more action pack (Non-rap, cuz Rap and Pirates don't mix) opening for a US TV version of One Piece would be better.

But to the mainstream, not so much. For example, most of my freinds say "WE
ARE" and all the other original openings sound "gay".

But they all love "Rock the Dragon" or Naruto's viz made opening.

Yes. For the vast majority of people, the only thing they know about One Piece is its retarded rap. I have a friend who's just as big into anime as I am, but he doesn't watch One Piece and anytime I bring it up he starts singing "Ya Yo Ya Yo"…

You know, using anything related to Dragonball to make that point is kind of silly considering the fact that the vast majority of DBZ fans prefer Rock The Dragon to Cha-La.

Anyway, trimming the openings down to a minute probably wouldn't be too difficult, and if it is, it's not like they have to use them all anyway. They could trim down We Are and use it all the way to the end of Arabasta if they wanted, skipping Believe entirely.

Or just make a new one from scratch. It wouldn't really matter.

I agree, actually. I think the lyrics 4Kids came up for their version of We Are were actually good (I like their lyrics more than FUNi's), and it got the point of the show across.

A theme song with lyrics explaining the plot would be a good thing for people who tune in and have never seen it before.

That's the old fanbase. I'm talking about this completely new fanbase which made DBZK a hit on Nicktoons on its premiere date and apparantly did not turn off the TV because they heard gaaaaaaay songs._

When at least in the English speaking countries, when trying to make a theme song you want something extremely catchy. You want something that'll get in your head and when your on the bus to school you'll talk about it.

Also lyrics like "So you wanna be my friend?" isn't really on kids top ten coolest phrases.

Also, we all know that Dragonball Z's fame has never died down, I wouldnt be suprised if most of the people who watch Kai are kids of the original fans.

one piece has plenty of plot points that take a while to build up to the fight.

anyways what really is the argument now? weather or not they will like the openings, or weather or not they should shorten it?
