The World God Only Knows

I'm loving all of this Ayumi attention and fan service. This is one of those few series I can honestly say each chapter leaves me guessing what will happen next. If I where to try and make a fail attempt at a prediction. It would be Keima will get stabbed and reveal he had Jupiter in him all along.
-
I hope that is part of some plan…...because not cool at all girl.
-
! I thought Chihiro was well on her way to understanding the situation, so doing that all of a sudden is a bit out of nowhere, even if it would make sense under "normal" circumstances. In fact her personality seems to completely shift as though she's got a goddess in her (minus the visual cues).
-
Gee didn't know people here care about this series.
-
OMG… this week's chapter.. lol.. the ending.. i literally rolled on the floor laughing.. ohh.. i got cramps..
especially this page : http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/182/page/17

my face during this entire chapter:
-
I loled so hard this chapter. Keima and Ayumi in a game of chicken marriage.
-
The manga continues to be hilarious week after week. I wonder how long Wakaki plans to take all this.
-
the reactions of ayumi's parents made the chapter for me, lol
-
I wonder if they will really get married. It would show some good character development considering they were the first two to meet in chapter 1.
-
I doubt it. Chihiro and Keima have the most development thus far in the series, and Keima's heart is still very much closed-off yet. He hasn't honest opened up to anyone and Chihiro has gone further than anyone…
/doesn't want Ayumi-Keima marriage. :X
-
I like Chirio, but I like Ayumi better. I noticed recently that there seems to be some kind of "war" between the two fanbases, lol.
-
OMG how could I only miss this chapter??? Thanks ppl for showing me, that there is a new chapter out :D
And what a great chapter xD I'm still lmao xD Nothing more to say, I love this manga. -
Really enjoyed the ending to the arc/saga (something like to see it animated) and talk between Keima and Ayumi was really nice felt natural and funny a same time(start to finish felt really nice).
I had feeling the series would end at this point(then i noticed the setence below in the chapter 189), i wonder what is going to be the focus now.
-
I was pretty sure the series would end at this point. That last chapter would have been a perfect ending, hit all the right notes, gave us a quick look at where all the past conquests were, pretty good. Now, I'm worried that it doesn't have anything left that can carry it for much longer :/ We'll see I guess. On the bright side, KeimaxChihiro is so gonna happen!

New arc begins

But before a two weeks hiatus -
Yup, after a Goddess cat fight and a two week break we'll get the new arc…
-
Only 11 pages…?
-
seems so, the raw has the same number of pages

What do you expect from a transitional chapter? Clearly the foundation for the next arc isn't in place yet…
-
I like that Haqua picked up the signal, since it should mean she'll play a prominent role in this arc…
-
Chapter 206 is out.
http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/206/
! That thing Urara found… lol.
-
I miss the "girl of the week" setup. Frankly, ever since the goddesses stepped in, this series has been boring me…

Keima: That is a game that is sold in a different aisle.
I died laughing.
-
I need a new reaction image for this kinda of chapters.
-
Apparently I'm the only one who's not enjoying this arc in the least and found this chapter to be terrible (honestly, lolicon pandering?). Seriously, this is the third place I've looked, and I keep seeing amusement and people going "lol, I has a weird boner!" This story used to be entertaining, but right now, in my opinion, it's crap. The only good thing to come out of this series recently is the first episode of the Tenri OVA that was released earlier this month.
If the alternative to a boring plot is lolicon pandering, then I'd rather the mangaka got back to the plot…

If you think this chapter was about loli fanservice, you kinda missed the point. I mean sure, if you wanna be cynical about things. But for those of us who have been paying attention to the "boring plot" as you put it, we understood what the author is going for and I sort of like it.
Before I get accused of being a sicko, let me deconstruct the intentions of the author. The whole point of Keima's new "conquest" is that she's a young girl with a desire to grow up quickly. She wants to become an adult which is why she wears her mother's make-up, wears fancy clothes and tries to act mature whenever she can. The reason I not only don't mind but really like the porn mag twist is that it well…makes a lot of sense that the story turned to this direction. We all have had our "show me mine, I'll show you yours" moments when we were children. Not in such a cliche or straightforward fashion probably but children becoming inquisitive about sex, a thing they are entirely innocent of its "dirty connotations", and try to explore it in their child-like innocent fashion is pretty natural. Much more so given this character. I was very surprised that the author went this route for this character but it... kinda is the logical progression for the character and the story.
Now what might throw you off is the glib manner it was presented. The sheer cuteness of the character (which I think actually makes it funnier because she looks so innocent, you'd never think she would think about that stuff but then that would not be treating her as a person.) and the comical undertones to it. This ties back into the whole "Are X jokes ever funny?" (x being rape, holocaust, abortion etc.). I personally think any subject matter can be funny just some are much harder to do right than others. And I think this was done pretty well. Tonally it was very consistent with the rest of the series. What makes it funny in my opinion is how...innocent it is. You could imagine someone of that age acting like that about the subject. The way the character behaved was very innocent and natural. It was a pretty sincere display of a child exploring sexuality. She doesn't know any better. Now take that and add Keima's straightman cynicism at the situation and it's fucking hilarious. Because he knows what the first thing people would think as the author clearly knows and as you've so aptly proven. And when juxtaposed with the natural behavior of the girl in question, it is funny. It's funny because of how wrongly people could take it. It's not lolicon pandering, it's poking fun at lolicon pandering. The lolicon undertones are there, no denying, but they're not there to turn us on, they're there because it's just a girl trying to understand an adult subject and making fun of us who would take it so cynically. It's really a clever satire on how our society has made everything so dirty really where we can't even look at an innocent child exploring sex, something he/she has no idea about, without thinking the worst of the situation. At least that's how I interpreted it.
-
I think the thing is, Wakaki just stone-cold does not give a fuck anymore. Before the Goddesses, I always said this manga was surprisingly classy, with the exception of a few girls, the ecchi was barely present. But from about that point on, the fanservice started to pick up, harem ending possible, light bondage, and now shota and loli.
I enjoyed it before as essentially a series of romance one-shots, but now I enjoy it as a runaway troll train with no brakes, where ever chapter brings some new crazy shit.
-
He's definitely trying to milk the franchise, which is disappointing, but given the anime was successful he's definitely been blinded a bit by the income. Not unlike Kouji Kumeta and his zombified Hayate no Gotoku! series. He's made all the VN girls marketable moe (like Saki, which has lost most of the mahjong distinguished) and trying to live off that.
Granted, Wakaki seemed to be running out of ideas earlier in the story, BUT he managed to stumble on some clever twists and incorporate development. Unfortunately, that well has gone bone dry.
@Thousand:
It's not lolicon pandering, it's poking fun at lolicon pandering.
This isn't some clever parody scene, it's definitely intended to be a shameless nod to fetish fans and is using the series premise to try and get away with it. It's gone too far in the sense that Negima! never did by having Urara completely serious and Keima going lol no. I got no impression of satire from her, she's dead set on making TWGOK an H game.
-
So, TWGOK is about to end with the next chapter. Anybody else completely lost track of what was going on in this final arc and couldn't tell whether they made progress or not? I sure did.
I'm a bit disappointed, I loved the early & middle arcs and the comedy of this Manga, but ever since the focus shifted from comedy to the whole hell conspiracy stuff and time travel shenanigans, I lost interest. -
Yeah, once the Goddess stuff reared its head, the manga got boring quickly. Still, the ending is right around the corner ("I can see the ending!"), so at least the author knows when to call it quits; kudos for that…
! The ending of chapter 267 has Keima confessing to Chihiro! If Chihiro and Keima actually do end up together, then slogging through the shitty Goddesses arc will have all been worth it. Don't fuck it up this time, Keima!
-
The last arc was dragged and convoluted, but this confession is so sweet - it was worth reading it just for this moment.
-
An interesting chapter to be sure, so Elsie became his actual sister…huh. Then he confessed to Chihiro?!
It has been a fun ride with this manga, kinda weird the last arc was spent with Kid Keima and not the one we're used to though. It got a little boring sometimes but has been overall fun.
I will miss manga.
-
Hah, that ending…..I wanted it to be Tenri...
Oh well, whatever. Next week gonna read the last chapter and then time to move on.
-
Yeah, I thought it was pretty sweet that Elsie became Keima's actual sister. It would've been kind of a downer if she just up and disappeared from Keima's life, considering all they've been through. The way it happened is still kind of unclear, but if Dokuro can turn out to be Nikado, then Elsie can turn human too. It sucks that her colleagues forgot her (especially since it means no more Haqua!), but it's for the best, I suppose.
Also, Tenri would've been an okay choice, but Chihiro has always been my number one pick. I'm just glad that Ayumi didn't win (as far as we know), because that would've pissed me off. The best part about Ayumi is that she's friends with Chihiro, and that's pretty much it.
-
After the long letdown that was the last arc, this chapter was surprisingly nice.
If Keima end up with Chihiro, it was worth reading every page. And Elsie becoming his sister was rather sweet as well.
By the way, does anybody know what Elsie meant by being the final boss? I've already forgotten most of the arc, or I just missed something…
-
Well…
! The ending is indeed Keima and Chihiro! Other than that, though, the ending was pretty lackluster, even with the chapter being 26 pages long. Still, since Chihiro won out in the end, I'm comfortable giving this series an overall rating of 6 or 7 for a strong start, really weak middle and decent end. Good luck with Chihiro, Keima; don't blow it.
-
"I can see the ending!"
Ah…it's over. Well even though I stopped reading the series part way through the Godesses arc I feel like I should say something since I started this thread!
Honestly I really enjoyed the series (at least what I read of it). Great humor, good characters and I enjoyed the dramatic endings to each capture a lot. Seems like the mangaka managed to give a good ending to the series too, glad things weren't left open ended. Keima understands what a loss that would be for the fans.
-
Egh, for me the ending leaves a bad and bitter tastes in my mouth. Why did Tenri's ending part had to be the sadest one of the bunch? Why did the rejection had to be in a letter given ten years ago and not "properly" aka in person and with some enclosure on how Keima and Tenri will fare from now on? And how could Tenri be the only girl who grew her wings without a kiss after reading a letter which rejected her feelings?
I just don't get it…
-
I think it was a good ending. The story got really bad at times, but at the very least they had enough sense to tie up most loose ties and deliver a decent end. Keima and Chihiro ended up together, Elsie got her own nice ending and Tenri had to finally give up on Keima, but also realize that its not the end of the world.
And at the very least the series has come to a close, unlike two certain ones…
-
I have a fair amount of issues with the ending, and the final arc as a whole… The arc's premise was ridiculous on several levels, (so the entire story is now the result of a Stable Time Loop where Keima went back in time after having awakened the Goddesses, so as to personally set in motion the events that would eventually lead to him awakening the Goddesses?) and a lot of the reveals in the last few chapters seemed poorly set up and were resolved way too easily (ELSIE.), and… what was the point of Satyr, exactly? They get introduced like five chapters from the end with little more explanation beyond "They're like Vintage but more dangerous!" and then they get anti-climactically defeated off-screen between chapters, after having done nothing but wrecking shit with generic giant monsters. If the final villain is going to get this little development, why even HAVE the final villain being a new group at all? They could have just said that they were a remnant of Vintage and nothing would change. Also, was Dokurou/Nikaidou just a doppelganger of Dokurou Skull or an entirely separate chapter? The start of the arc seemed to imply the former, but given the role she ended up playing she does seem like she's an entirely separate character... I suppose she could be a clone orz but yeah...
On the bright side though... My OTP is canon, hell yeah! And for as ridiculous as the premise of the arc was, at least it brought Keima's character-arc to a pretty good close.
