So lately my older brother has been MASSIVELY downloading "movies".
You know what I'm getting at here.
He uses up all the bandwidth and I can barely open up a blank Google page.
His connection remains normal and he refuses to admit he is torrenting when I look at his screen, see Vuze/Azureus, and ask him to stop.
How can I slow his downloads down?
Or limit them, or even give me back my share of the bandwidth?
i don't know your total bandwidth, but you can ask him to limit his download speed to 300/400KB download and 25/30 KB upload, it's plenty of bw to download stuff from torrent.. you can set the global speed limitations from his Vuze settings ;)
scare him and tell him that's how the cops find online piraters. they look for people using mass amounts of bandwidth like that.
Explain it to your parents. I hope for his sake that your older brother doesn't think he is smart in hiding it when the whole house knows what he does…

He would probably notice the change in settings right away. It would take him 10 seconds to get the full bandwidth back. Closing ports sounds a little bit more promising. But you need admin access to your router for that. Better even if he doesn't have the admin password to it. If he has, he may lift the torrent port blocks just like the bandwidth limitation. Only it would take him a bit loonger to find the source of his dead torrents.
Going to up to him and open the Vuze window with all the downloads in it right after he told you he is not downloading anything might be the best way. Possibly with your parents in the room, if you think he might physically stop you from doing so. Do your parents use the Internet too? / Are they affected by this as well? It would make things a lot easier.
how about you add a "virus" to his pc that does nothing but just restarts pc whenever he tries to run Vuze.
but making a big "scene" when parents are around is better idea
