@Mikan:
I don't get why people think the haki explanation was obvious and unneeded exposition. The target audience is children. Most people just read the chapters every week, and don't reread the series for clues. They don't share theories on forums. We've pieced together haki, but the explanation was necessary for kids and casual readers.
I think you're overstating the case here. At least for me, if indeed you are talking about me. I never said the explanation wasn't necessary. I said nothing new was revealed in it. I happen to agree that for the target audience it was probably necessary, especially for those casual readers who only see the story once a week.
(Sigh) This is why I avoid this sort of critique of the chapter to begin with. I don't enjoy it, or having to go back and explain myself (Although asking for clarification is of course fair in all of these discussions, so no foul called, Mikan). I have thoughts about it, but meh–I don't geek out over it the way I do other stuff about the story--although I see why some do indeed want to talk about it. (I don't mean to imply it's not something that's worthwhile discussing--just I personally don't enjoy the topic.)
To me it's much more fun to speculate about what's coming. That gets me excited.
So on to that topic. I made a teensy mistake in a post yesterday, and I mean to fix it. LOL

(followed by a later post of mine) Some people have heard of the "Will of D" outside of the Ds who are in the know themselves, so it's not impossible that he may have read about it or talked to someone on his travels who knew and mentioned it. You never know. However, to be clear–I don't mean that Law must know for sure that gaining the One Piece requires the "Will of D," or even that he is suspicious that that is the case…
Clearly I have contradicted myself in these two statements. (Bad bad poster.) I can only plead that I was under the influence of a decent bottle of red when I wrote the second. (yum) I stand by my first statement, I did indeed mean to imply that he may suspect that there may be something about "Ds" that makes them at the least most likely to be able to get the One Piece, if not the only ones who can. In our world such ideas do not make the least bit of sense, but in the OPverse, it is a fact of life that some mysterious forces are at work. Law is an educated, intelligent individual, and if he did any research into the One Piece before setting off, and/or heard things on his travels, I do not put it past him to put two and two together into an educated guess. He may be slightly off base, but I bet he's on the right track.
Yes, this is way too far in advance of what is coming in the story, and Oda can and will probably change things over and over between now and then, but I'm willing to bet there's more to Mr. Law's statement about "D' as he left AL and his aid to Luffy than mere coincidence, lol. (FTR Don, in case you wonder–I'm not yet willing to bet on the end of the story--lol.)
