We've been given no reason to believe he has the color of the conquerer (aka, the one-in-a-million haki).
So not likely.

True, but he should atleast have learned COA and COO
Even for someone like Luffy, learning the three types of Haki in just a year and a half was pretty extraordinary. I doubt he has anything more than Observation Haki at this point.
Coby will probably be as strong as luffy was pre-time skip. Somewhere between Kaku's level and Lucci's level.
As for Helmeppo…..I'm sure he's stronger than his Dad. That's gotta count for something.

I completely agree.

Coby's growth has been extraordinary the whole time. Compared to luffy when he first joined the marines he was incredibly weak, far weaker then ussop. Within the time it took luffy to defeat lucci, Coby learned soru. We don't know if he can do tekkai or any other specialized fighting style yet ,but Oda seems to push Coby great leaps during the periods hes out of the story.

But Coby has still been weaker then Luffy this entire time. With good reason.
I'm not going to deny that Coby has been making amazing progress, but it hasn't been any faster (if not slower) then Luffy.

**You're overestimating Coby's growth. He went from nothing to being able to use Soru, meaning he does have a degree of superhuman strength. But he was also trained by Garp himself, and the level of strength Coby was at was pretty much nothing even compared to Luffy who was a weakling on a worldwide scale.
There's nothing so far that his growth is great enough to learn the basics of both main types of Haki in just two years. Hell, the entire reason Oda had him "awaken" his Observation Haki in the first place as opposed to bringing it out via training is probably because it wouldn't have had made sense for him to be able to use any Haki at this point otherwise.**

I figure its some combination of natural talent and the marines knowing what works. They've trained people before, they notice what he's good at, they fix weak spots and make his strengths even stronger. Luffy learned things by himself, nobody really taught him how to use his DF powers. So it makes sense Coby advanced quickly.
But during the 2 years timeskip for the first time Luffy had someone dedicated to teaching him. His advancement during that time is a reflection of his own (greater) natural talent.
I think it would be intresting if coby joind the revolutionary army
I wouldnt like the idea of Coby being at Luffy strength after the time skip, or even ever. Id like him to get admiral position or help create a new world (after Luffy defeats the WG.) I dont really ever want him to be equal with Luffy but that may happen since Oda created Coby in the beginning and wants him to remain in it
its undeniable that coby and luffy will confront each other at some point in one piece…. but i doubt coby has developed as far as luffy has in the two years its been.... probably not even to pre-time skip luffy level. it'd also be pretty cheap if coby is already an admiral, considering he was pretty much nothing before the skip.
@Thatguy23--:
OMG!! I figured it out… obviously Coby already has haki but now he is gonna get super strength while training with garp. see a similarity? (Coby=Sakura)
Pink Hair
Weak to begin with
Super strength training with grandpa instead of granny lol
ALSO that inner will sakura has... lololol
What the fuck you you going on about? Don't compare Coby to Sakura. lololol :getlost:
It's fun to see Coby being introduced in the manga after the timeskip seeing this
Some Dude : Hey that pink hair! That's Coby right? The Student of Garp the Hero!
Coby and Helemppo to own Coribou and Karibou is my hope for LIFE.
Obviously Coby will be lot stronger after the time skip, since he learned CoO… I can easily imagine him becoming a vice-admiral now.
But, in my opinion, Luffy has became more like an Admiral/Younkou class opponent (or just below). Gomu gomu no fruit imbued with Haki... He is now on a totally different level. So, unless Coby has grown his own haki to this level, he cannot be on par with Luffy.
Anyway, Luffy is Coby's role model. There is no point in making them fight at this point of the story. Probably they'll do but later (in an arc where Luffy will get down the WG, for some reason of his )
I agree, Coby is certainly way weaker then luffy but I think over the past 2 years garp has been training him in haki. I'm hoping coby developped well enough to go into the new world to capture pirates.
I think that Coby will be as proficient at Haki as Luffy. Garp probably taught him just as rayleigh taught Luffy. I also think that Coby will be more proficient at CoO since that is his disposition, while Luffy excells at CoA and CoC (which coby does not have). As far as combat skills and base strength/speed go, Luffy is still vastly superior no doubt. My point is that their knowledge of Haki in general is most likely proportionately the same.

I don't think we've confirmed Coby and Helmeppo went with Garp. We saw Garp in East Blue, but the other two were still in Marineford. Though the timeline is a bit off, we still haven't seen them with him after the battle. TBH I would've liked it if they spent like a year with Garp doing whatever it is he's doing, then got transferred to somewhere in the New World so they can run into the SH at some point.
We ll see where Oda is going with Coby when we will see him the next time and be able to compare his strength to that of Luffy
I am holding my fingers crossed he ll once become a strong man, but nothing near the strength of Luffy I have a feeling that would seriously bother me

It seems like too much, but I have to say he needs to be at least as strong as pre-timeskip Luffy. If he isn't that strong then his advancement to actually challenge Luffy in the NW would have to be beyond monstrous.
And I don't know that Coby will necessarily challenge Luffy, but I don't think Oda would have Luffy get crazy strong and leave Coby in the dust. So whatever he learns, however strong he gets, I think it would at least have to be enough to make Luffy take notice and make an effort. Maybe not extreme effort, but at least enough to show us how far Coby has come.
@Aka:
well i dont think that his pose at that time was one of a leader. i dont think any strong willed leaders woulod faint infront of the sight of Akainu or by Shanks.
i just think that coby has to realy dicisive and strongwilled so that he can climp to the marines top, unlike luffy who in this short term in the seas as a pirate made a great name by acomplishing things.coby is stil unknown to the marines and pirates for his streangth.
you do know that that fainting has to do with the CoI of Shanks right>?

Well the doctor said "You're Garps pupil aren't you? Ask him.". If Coby is determined to improve himself I'm sure he went to Garp, and since Garp is retired and has no other duties & he no doubt has the time to train Coby. It will probably be revealed when we see Coby again. The primary focus was on how the SH crew would improve so it was only hinted what everyone else would do within the next two years.
I'd enjoy it very much if Coby, as a higher ranked Marine, no higher than that of a Rear Admiral, has his own battle ship. I don't really know what to expect from Coby. He's always been much weaker than Luffy.
One of the reasons why I stated in a prediction in the past, that Coby will have eaten the Mera fruit, is not because I absolutely love the idea, but it's one of the "building blocks" that could assist him in his quest to become an Admiral. Being a user of the Mera fruit, well… we know how destructive one can be with that power. Coby could leap through the ranks easily with the aid of this fruit, as well as create a name for himself. I just wouldn't believe Coby being so successful (in his quest to become an Admiral) if he didn't have a power that is as physically oppressive as the Mera fruit. Unless Oda has in mind for Coby to have eaten another fruit that is equally oppressive and destructive. Otherwise, I don't see Coby becoming an Admiral by the end.
Coby learning haki and getting stronger is part of his progression and character development, a much needed one for him, if Oda intends him to appear in the New World and face the challenges there. But to ever be on par against Luffy in terms of strength? I very much doubt that. Smoker I believe will be Luffy's main rival in the marines. I think Coby will somehow play an important role later on - most likely in the post-pirate king (luffy) era - but let's not get carried away here.
The way I see how things could unfold would be…
Roger --> Luffy (pirate king)
Garp --> Smoker (chases after luffy until he becomes pirate king)
Aokiji --> Coby (will work his way to becoming an admiral)

Garp is practically FA-level and doesn't seem to possess a DF ability. :P

To a certain degree its a lack of imagination. We see so many people with DFs that are strong that after a certain point you think all strong people need a DF.
Its the opposite, a person will be strong with or without a DF, the DF just adds some.
I'm against Coby getting a DF because I like him having to work for everything he gets.
I'm really against Coby getting a DF we've already seen. That just screams laziness.
I think that Coby will be around the rank of Captain, putting him at the same rank Smoker was when the story began. I would imagine that their first fight in the New World would involve him dodging several blows with CoO, then taking a several more and going down, perhaps even hitting Luffy once or twice. This would be incredible progress for him, putting him in position to eventually put up a decent fight by the end of One Piece. I also hope he doesn't get a Devil's Fruit, especially not a logia.
oh come on…..................
People here are thinking too big of Smoker.. []
He was the friggin, "the first logia ever appeared" who hasn't done anything significant throughout the entire series so far= lolzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
so useless...;;

To see Coby get a fruit that we have seen before could open up all kinds of interesting plot points. Just cause you can't see the potential does not mean that it is lazy writing.
Just imagine if he got Ace's Flame fruit? Could you imagine what everyone would say about it? Some people loving Ace to death and seeing a part of him in someone else. Conversations about how a Devil Fruit regenerates into the world. It would be pretty cool.
id put coby at about boa's sisters strength minus the df strong and haki powerd but still wrecked by luffy's natural strength

That entire conversation could just as easily come about if someone says "characterx 20 years ago had the same fruit!". Rather than re-using part of Ace.

Id say Luffy's strength pre-time skip minus gear second but with strong mantra.
@Mr.:

There are so many characters with absurd levels of strength (Joz threw a freaking iceburg!), I'd like to see Coby refine and improve his soru to the point he's absurdly fast.
Dunno if this's been brought up, but think of if Coby ate a DF ;) Changes everything.

Okay, maybe somewhere between base luffy and gear second luffy w/strong mantra. Also I'm sure he'll learn, not master mind you, all rokushiki techniques (perhaps rokugan).

I don't necessarily think he hadn't already learned, or at least begun training for, rokushiki before the skip. I just chalk up his not using them to not having mastered them to a degree useful in battle possibly combined with some personal preference. Personally I wouldn't really like shigan, because I'd rather punch someone than stick my fingers inside them.

I just thought of a dirty joke but It's just to predictable so I'll spare you. :ninja:
Anyways, I agree that shigan isn't Coby's kind of technique anyways since he's not the sadistic assasin type. As for soru, each person has a different mastery of it. Nero couldn't even disappear, he just ran really quickly. Ideally, Coby can excell by learning to move while performing tekkai like jyabura and being able to do advanced rankyaku techniques like Kaku.

I'm looking at Garp, who we've never seen use any of those techniques. Of course Coby is his own person. We don't even know if Garp knows rokushiki, since he had those two guys with him to train Coby and Helmeppo.
I'd prefer Coby not use rokushiki for the most part, mostly because its kinda old. Maybe Coby has some new uses for it that doesn't remind me of CP9.
coby will be a member of the strawhats
coby will be a member of the strawhats
imposibble
luffy vs coby maybe same like roger vs garp.
Garp is practically FA-level and doesn't seem to possess a DF ability. :P
I think you're missing the point that I was trying to make. I may need to be more clear. What I'm trying to say is that for Coby to reach the rank of Admiral by the end of the series, he would probably need the assistance of some fruit that would be as devastating as the Mera fruit can be. Sure, Garp was one of the strongest Marines out there in his time, but how long did it take him to reach that level? I'd find it pretty cheap if Coby reached the level of an Admiral in such a short time. Before the time-skip, he was still incredibly weak.
All of this discussion is in regards to if Coby will become an Admiral by the end of the series. If he doesn't, then I couldn't agree more with you.
Yeah mera Mera once again. I hope Coby knows the exact location of it
A weakling with a Logia is still a weakling.
@Mr.:

He possesses haki and has been trained by Garp for 2 years. Not a weakling, understand that.

I'm saying in general, you can't rely on a DF. If coby needs a DF to become admiral then he's not cut out for it at all.
Since Coby is an old character, his development in strengh is bound to his relation with the Straw Hats.
If he stays in the Marine then it depends on who will act as the "Garp" in the "Roger v Garp" relation mimic. And personnally, I would see more Smoker learn Haki in the NW and fill up that role.

Somehow it would really f***** annoy me if Coby got Ace's fruit … Because Sabo (who is alive) will eat it and join the crew ! Trololo
if Coby is ranked higher than rear admiral i ll be damn dissapointed
