Elite section & Admin/mod Q&A.

Theirs two ideas I thought we could discuss and possibly implement.
(seen on various other Vbulletin forums)

The first being a stickied section for basic Q&A regarding the site.
(similar to "ask the dude anything" but answerable by all APforums staff)
The obvious benefit being that it will cut down on unnecessary threads, as well as prevent the staff from being bombarded with such a large volume of messages.

The second idea is in regards to the manga section.

A large portion of the posters are put off by the amount spam in the manga section. Can we have a a separate section for all new members to post in until they have shown some level of competence?
(divide and conquer)

Again I've seen both ideas featured on several sites, and it does make a big difference.

1: There's the "One Liner Questions" thread in the help section. It isn't used much but whoever wants to know something can ask there.

2: There is no need to separate posters in the manga section that way since when someone joined is irrelevant to discussing things in the forum.

The staff appear to ignore that thread, hence the need of a thread that is specifically aimed at mod and admins.

The other idea is being slaughtered by my lack of ability to describe it. I'll link a few other forums to show what I mean.

I dunno if it's really a need since if someone wants to ask us something it could easily be done through a PM. Especially since I doubt there would be a large amount of messages getting sent our way otherwise it'd already have happened if that were the case.

Plus our inboxes are a decent amount larger than members so aside from anyone who might hoard PMs it'd be something that's easily dealt with.

maybe we can have a sticky closed thread in help desk answering commenly asked questions. stuff like "why cant i post?", "why am i not allowed to cast votes", "what do stars next to names mean?", "why cant i get my sig to work" etc. (i hope you get the idea).

Altough we have FAQ for this but a separate sticky closed thread in help desk titled like "Commonly asked questions by new members" etc. wont hurt

I support this wholeheartedly. It's convenient, simple and you can blame the users for not reading stickies. :) But seriously, this would really help, I've seen it in action on other forums.

I personally wouldn't mind a thread, but the most effective (and fastest) way to get my attention is through PM because then I'm pretty much forced to read it as soon as I log in, where as a thread could go ignored for days.

Then if we have a thread, even if a new member doesn't read it, when he asks, we can just link him to that thread, instead of wasting time explaining.

instead of making a HELP ME thread, why dont you just make a thread/post instructing users how to contact the staff and just link to that

For example, the most common question recently is: "Why can't I vote?". New users keep asking this question. There is a thread fully explained it in the help section. So when a new user ask, instead of answering him, I pm him with a link to that thread. The link is in my inbox so I can copy it whenever I need. It take less time than typing the answer. Furthermore, keep retyping the same thing can be pretty…tiring.
Well, just my opinion.
Instructing users how to contact mods/admins is necessary too. If we have a FAQ thread, then that should be the first to be mentioned.

Most new users dont read sticky threads where everything is explained. It may help in some cases to create a new one, but those who rly care can also right now look it up in a few minutes. The rest will ask everyhwere as normal. Dont think that will much change.

I have seen someone putting an image in the thread title, so this is probably possible too. But needless to say, the probability of moderators dealing with such requests is almost non-existant, I'm sure.

I highly doubt it. I know of no option to do it, but perhaps the admins could do something of that nature if the vB scripting allows it.

As for help threads and what not. I'm all for helping others, but most new members simply don't read rules or stickies or anything else of that nature.

There's a Forum Leaders link that has been overlooked for ages.

I realize AP is something like 80% retards but such inanity isn't dependant on user date. Merely look at the Oumagadoki Doubutsuen topic to see a fine example of "old" members acting like elitist dipfudges toward a new member.

Regarding the complexity of some topics in the manga section i suggest that only members with diplomas join this forum. Those studying physics are definitely the chosen one.
Recently a man named heyih chihro discovered an unknown force he named ambition. PhD positions are open.

I've given up on the manga section. Every time I go there I feel like I need to educate the mass of people that think they know shit about oda's work.

This isn't the case with a fair few new members, but still it gets tedious having to sift through that hellhole for something that makes sense. And even then its usually stating something that's well known as opposed to bringing new ideas to the table.

Anyway its probably too much of a hassle to implement so I'll leave it at that.
(this is more to do with the forums age policies I guess)
