I don't mind :happy:. I started hormones back in 2006. I was basically full time in 2007. I say 'basically' because by this time I already passed as female with no problem so this is just when I convinced my family to deal with it (only took them eight years to figure this out). Plus I got a job in 2007 using my preferred name/pronouns (graduated from university the same year).
Currently, I'm in graduate school working on my PhD in computer science. I've saved quite a bit of money towards GRS and could probably afford it within the next year if I didn't mind going out of country. Nonetheless, I'm still not sure of my feelings about the surgery. I would try to elaborate here but it would probably only turn into a long ramble on the US health care system, the gory details of GRS, and how people shouldn't be dumb conformists…. So yeah that's about it. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

This may be true, but many trannsexuals go through at least one self identification before realizing that they are in fact trannsexuals. So that is to say, it's not certain that one's way of thinking in the beginning will match his way of thinking later on.

If someone would tell me it bothered them that I was trans, I certianly would not be all up in their shit.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if someone is disgusted or upsetted by someone who is trans, I more than respect that. Likewise, I would take zero offense by it as long as they were respectful about it in the sense that they wouldn't warentlessly harrass me / cause harm to me / destroy my property.

They probably actually do. It seems to me like the majority don't even understand what sexual orientation is. That's why they think it is a choice, that they can "catch it", etc.

For transsexuals the usual thing is to refer to them by their preferred pronoun even when talking about before they transitioned. To them, transitioning is not a matter of personal preference but affirming identity. Like you said, it's more along the lines that they've always been like that in some way and are just bringing their body and mind in sync. This is also how modern stylebooks advise journalists refer to them (it's older articles where the writer does the stupid switching between pronouns).
Of course when it comes to transgender people not everybody identifies as male or female. Some people prefer only gender neutral pronouns (ze/zir/zirself is my favorite). Some people are okay with any pronouns. Technically gender neutral pronouns are just that and can be used in any situation (for bonus points use them to refer to your cisgender friends too). Nonetheless, you're probably best just asking what pronoun someone prefers than using a gender neutral one. Some transfolk have a strong dislike of them (fussy transsexuals mostly). If you are not in a position to ask them which they prefer a good rule of thumb is to use ones consistent with how the person dresses/acts/lives.
Finally, if you still have questions feel free to ask. Wikipedia has long articles on the many different kinds of tfolk and is a good place to look for information as well.
