What's this manga!?

Okay, so I read this manga AGES ago. It was about this kid in China, and I'm pretty sure it was China, and he's at this like 'martial arts' training school. The story's based around this kid who's above the rest, so they send his to like a port or something, to train with this 'living legend' who could kill a tiger with a single hair or something.

There was also navy guys there, who they fought with, and that's all I could really remember. It was near 5 years ago.

That story arc is from vol. 8-11 (I checked). The legend you were talking about is Master Yosen, and Chinmi fought the navy guys in a Kung Fu vs Boxing match.

I don't think you can find the chapters online though. I have all 35 volumes of it in my collection. It's a pretty fun read overall (the adventures, the trainings, the strategy/tactical fights, the street fights, the weaponry fights, the Dailin Temple invasion arc, some bit of Mongolian invasion arc). Except for the last arc (tournament arc), which I found a bit disappointing (despite it bringing back Chinmi's rival; Shi Fan).

It's a manga. Maekawa Takeshi is the author.
Too bad there isn't any scanlation around for this series. This is a good series. The characters are lovable, the fights are well done, the story is good.
Along with Dragon Ball, Kung Fu Boy makes up my childhood.

I used to buy this when I was a kid. The first 12 volumes were released in the uk in the nineties.

I know ttk used to translate it as well.

Yeah it was a really forward thinking release at the time, too.

The cover had flaps, it read right-to-left, and they printed SFX trans next to or in the margins rather than cloning out the art. And this was in like 1996.
