A cool little site with animations on how to behave in Japan for a business visit, a home visit, and a night at the bar.

Well, the etiquette's right and all, but I don't think I've ever heard Japanese spoken so dead in my life

Is the etiquette really that properly observed? Like, I know that there are certain rules of etiquette that exist but nobody really follows. But Japan is much more polite and formal country.

It's kinda situational. Meishi are kind of a must-have, especially in business and especially so when you're dealing with new people or higher-ups… but unless your profession is literally studying the politeness codes (as some families do if, say, they're directly descended from samurai or something) then most of the complex etiquette is kinda brushed aside. There's this whole tres-complex way to give someone a gift, for instance, which is technically the 'right' way but it gets simplified to just handing it over with both hands at once (which is how it's shown in the flash).
This is kind of like... doing the little extra push, I guess. Either that or I've seen way too many casual visitors
