Yes, extremely off-putting title and the section itself might not be the best choice but I need a little reassurance. I've been on the waiting list for a breast reduction for a couple of years and finally I got a call today (completely out of the blue) that the operation was slotted for next Tuesday. I grew up with one breast larger than the other and the operation is to reduce that breast to equal size of the other. Now I'm just freaking out about the procedure because it is major surgery albeit cosmetic and I'm scared I'm gonna die especially on the operating table after receiving anesthetic i.e. I go under and never wake up again which is freaking scary. Does anyone know about the procedure in detail? The risks, the recovery, the discomfort but especially the risks.
Breast Reduction
-
-
You should really be consulting your Doctor about it if you are worried in some way. They can go over the surgery in detail and help you with it.
-
I'll be consulting the doctor next Thursday. But I would like different perspectives. Doctor's tend to be overtly optimistic because they don't wanna freak their patients out.
-
you rly asking that here?:wassat:
well, dieing cause of receiving anesthetic is a bit unlikely.
your doctor will check , if you belong to a high-risk group for that.
so he will give you a dosis you should normally be able to handle and where risks are excluded.also, normally a breast reduction isn
t anymore a risky surgery. you shouldn
t worry about it that much TL-s. -
YOUR A GIRL! lol wow. certainly didn't get this one.
people do this every day. they are fine. so will you. you run the chance getting hit by a car crossing the street, yet you still do that.
-
-
You should be fine. It's a pretty routine procedure and there should be a trained anesthesiologist standing by to administer and monitor your anesthesia levels. The operation won't be too close to any major arteries or organs (if I remember my anatomy class correctly) since they are operating outside of the rib cage and not within it.
I recently underwent dental surgery (wisdom teeth removal, ugh) and got knocked out for half an hour. It went fine, I woke up half an hour later just like after a nap.
The point is that if you're getting the surgery done at a reputable hospital you will have nothing to worry about. Just try and discuss all your fears and questions with your physician and maybe try and meet the surgeon beforehand. That should calm you a bit and hopefully make the whole thing easier.

Would it make you feel better if you replace the word breast with peck?
@OP
The risks of dying are low, you have a better chance of getting an infection afterwords, then dying on the table. They check into what you're allergic to so dying from a bad reaction to the drugs is quite low. Most of the time a breast reduction is just simple fat removal, and stretching the flesh back over. They can obviously just do it from the armpit as well. -
is this a joke thread then?…. @_@a
He's having surgery on his man-breasts. I am thinking of 1001 ways to make fun of you right now, but I'll have some tact in front of your fears.
I'll reserve the mockery for after the surgery.
-
One thing that may make you feel better is getting the information on how many operations your surgeon and anesthesiologist have done in the past. It's very comforting to know that the person in whose hands you are placing yourself is experienced.
I may be wrong, but from your post, it sounds like there's more going on here than you wrote. Just remember it's not a game of chicken–so of course it's ok if you decide now is not the right time for you, just as much as it's ok to decide to go ahead. Maybe part of your fear has to do with feeling like since you've been waiting so long, it would be wrong of you to change your mind, and that guilty feeling is holding you back from being able to decide rationally--just remember that just because you feel something doesn't make it a fact, right? The world will keep right on spinning whether you say yes or no, and I doubt anyone will bat an eyelash. So I'm saying, if you give yourself permission to go in either direction, so you feel like you still have a choice--because you do--it may help you decide with more confidence... Good luck.

dude's don't have boobs. they have breast tissue. they have nipples. but they do not have breasts.
he could have said his chest is dis-proportioned and he is going to have surgery to correct this.

Perhaps when you go in for the surgery, the name of the procedure is the same no matter the gender.

Men have under developed breasts. They can give off "nector", breast cancer can develop, and there are even most of the senses in a woman breast, that there are in a mans. Men do have breasts, womens are just more developed seeing as they have the more dominate chromosome during cell generation, and that everyone starts out as a "female" anyways.
-
he refers to it himself as breasts. I think that's valid reason enough for a "Wut?" response.
anyways, I don't wanna make it look like i'm giving him a hard time. I was just confused with the way he chose to describe his problem. I wish him well.

My biggest fear is that my heart will give out from the stress of the operation since I'm not exactly picture of perfect health. I'm not that bad though either (I don't look fat at the very least if I'm standing up). I'm sure the doctors wouldn't okay an operation if they weren't sure I'm fit for it. For reference, I'm going to the best hospital in the country so that's reassuring at least.

Not really, it's just I've been on the waiting list for like two years and I just got a call this morning out of the blue that the operation is next week so naturally I was freaked out. I had a much more severe operation in the past and came out fine but I was pretty young then so I wouldn't consider all the scary stuff about dying. I wanna do it, I get so embarrassed at the beach that I swim with a vest on. I'm just really scared. It doesn't help that I'm an atheist so there's no afterlife for me. Thanks for your and everyone else's well wishes^^

Guys have boobs too. Just not as developed. The reason is because of low levels of oestrogen (the opposite of women). Inject a man with high doses of it though and you'd even end up lactating.

I dunno. You called yourself Thousand Lion-chan. You're having breast reduction surgery. You're a hancock fangirl. You use lipstick.
I'm beginning to have my suspicions.
-
this thread confuses me lol.
-
I had the same problem with you until one year ago. Yeah, at that time I was afraid of taking off my shirt in front of people like other boys. I studied about this syndrome while a bit.
Over-developed male breast. -

Over-developed male breast.Yeah though in my case, it's only one. You said until only a year ago, did you have an operation to take care of it?
-
I think if I voiced my opinion right now, I'd get banned, so I'm just gonna leave this one untouched.
-
At first I was like "What's this?" and then I was like "Ohh, TLC's a girl? That explains a lot" an then I was like "Wait. No he's a dude" and then I was like "lolwut".

Personally my initial reaction was uncontrollable sniggering.
Which hasn't stopped.

Ieuw, that would have been a good topic to talk about in the topic roulette-thread.
But hell, wasn't the guy on the vid just fat, I don't understand what was abnormal about his chest to do surgery. All fat people have manboobs? no?
-
This thread XD Wow.
Since everything else got covered…
The idea of being put under unnatural is freaky, and it scared the hell out of me when I had my wisdom teeth removed, but as the stuff kicks in you feel really relaxed and happy. Then you wake up like getting up sleep, albeit a bit loopy. I remember waking up, walking to the post-op room and laying down and apparently I went back to sleep for another hour, woke up and carried on pretty coherent conversation, even though I have no memory of it besides walking to the room and then getting out of the bed to walk to the car.
It's not a big deal, and you feel so eeee afterwards you don't think of being anxious.
-
You have nothing to worry about, unless you have some huge, recent secret that you must keep at all cost. When I was being put under for some surgery I needed(the drugs just started working), I start talking to my doctor about some recent trips I went on. I don't remeber talking to him
O one more thing. Make sure to carry a unique object with you, so you are able to tell if you are dreaming or not. You don't want anyone to steal your secrets

Wow, on the one hand, it was quite reassuring. They did the surgery while he was awake and they didn't seem to stick in the surgical equipment too deep. On the other hand, it's so freaky how they nonchalantly manipulate their body like that. The surgery doesn't look dangerous at any rate. I just hope they totally knock me out for the surgery. Don't wanna be awake during that.
Edit: Wait, wtf, what do those links mean when they cite Death as a possible risk!?!
-
Although I feel for you and wish you well in your operation, I'm sorry but I can't help laughing at this a tiny bit, especially all the lolwut reactions.
-
-
Seemed like a fairly simple procedure, i think you'll be fine.
I'd worry more about paying the bill than if you're going to survive.
-
There is no 100% death proof surgery. Especially with anesthesia. But seriously its a percentage so low not to worry about.
That's like worrying that you are gonna die every time you get in a car, or that every time you walk down the street a car is going to swerve off the road and run you over. It's not a big enough risk to get paranoid over.
-

It's completely free. The downside was waiting two years on the waiting list.

Yeah but like at least dying like that is quantifiable. When you read death by surgery, you think, how? Is it just accounting for if the surgeon is drunk and just jams the suction-tube into your heart. I just wanna know if I'm gonna get hit by a car or a bus.
I know I'm sounding a bit whiny and I get what you're saying, I should be totally fine. I had a much more severe operation in the past and I came out fine. But it's just pre-surgery jitters you know. Thanks for your support and well wishes as well as everyone elses!!!

Surgery goes by like a snap. I've been under before, and it was just basic sleeping, you go to sleep, your brain either goes into dream state and you're fucked for waiting, or it's an instant go to sleep, wake up sort of "time travel", where it's like you just shut your eyes and woke up and hours have past.
Whatever you do, don't watch Nip Tuck before you get the surgery.
It's like watching LOST before getting on a plane.
Getting scared is natural, but this isn't life threatening surgery, it's lipsuction for a mans titty. A small ball of puss, or overdeveloped fat that will be trimmed. The "death" factor is if you lie to the doctor, or if you're getting operated on by Michael J. Fox.
-
When I got my wisdom teeth removed, I died.
It really fucking sucked.
Hope your procedure goes better.

Your kidding? How did that come about. I'd imagine that you just saved a couple of K right there.

Yeah, I've been under before. I've had two operations in the past. One when I was like twelve to get a biopsy of my colon and another when I was like 9 to pull out all my baby teeth to avoid getting braces. Both times, it was instant. I hope it's instant again, I don't wanna be awake while they swish their equipment under my chest.

I suppose it's not helping I'm trying to finish Six Feet Under.

I just worry about the cardiac complications of the surgery. Like I said, I'm not exactly fit (Though not super obese, sweet Jesus, I can't walk 10 metres without needing to rest bad).
@DanialG:

Not happening for sure.
@DanialG:or if you're getting operated on by Michael J. Fox.
I'd kill if the operation was done by this guy

Yeah, I remember when I woke up from all my baby teeth removed. My mouth was full of bleeding holes and I cried like a bitch.
Thanks for your well wishes!
@wolfwood:Your kidding? How did that come about. I'd imagine that you just saved a couple of K right there.
In my country health care is free so long as you wait really fucking long for it. Well we do have the fifth best health care in the world so…

It's free over here as well, but i dont think ours covers cosmetic surgery.
Anyhow that's great, you'll zoom in and be out within the hour a new man without a single cent leaving your wallet^^
-
@Badass:

Except they weren't falling fast enough and were going to distort the growth of my adult teeth making them crooked which would have meant two years of wearing braces. The operation let me bypass that.
@wolfwood:It's free over here as well, but i dont think ours covers cosmetic surgery.

Knock on wood.
But yeah, it should go fine. Still pretty scary._.
-
Man, that sounds though, I'm sure your teenager life was a living hell
Hope everything goes well for you
And although possible, its very improbable for you to die on the operation, although I guess its kinda possible that your breast may still look weird when compared to the other breast after the operation -
If you die I'd be pretty put out, so you'd better live. :V
-
Man, that sounds though, I'm sure your teenager life was a living hell
Eh, not really. I took them out when I was twelve and the adult teeth grew pretty straight and healthy after a few weeks.
@SGRaaize:Hope everything goes well for you
And although possible, its very improbable for you to die on the operation, although I guess its kinda possible that your breast may still look weird when compared to the other breast after the operationThe kicker is that there's an even chance I'd have to have a second operation if the shape doesn't set properly. Thanks for the well wishes though^^

Good to know you care:P
-
The kicker is that there's an even chance I'd have to have a second operation if the shape doesn't set properly.
That's very nice, considering those operations are still at relatively early-stages, and have had bad results sometimes.
And yes, I decided just to say this now cause I didn't want to scare you before :ninja: -

And ditto to what all the non-insulting people said: don't worry about it, and good luck!
