They acted one day, after a 100 years war, and when Iroh was up to here with dissapointment on Zuko. They don't get to complain.
Other than that, they complained, trained and ran.

! Welp, they ruined Toph's introduction for me now.
! I was sure she was shown this season, so that we could see her go out with style. And there is literally no other way for Toph to go - her life has to end with a monumental display of pure skill that every person, every earthbender, every Avatar at the top of their power would look at and think "Yeah, maybe in a thousand years I'll be able to do that". I wanted Toph to go face to face with Kuvira's weapon and try to stop it - bend an entire freakin' mountain even (remember a guy about, what, 20 years older than Toph - King Bumi - that was able to move a HUGE statue? Toph was WAY better than him as a kid) - she could maybe lose in the end, Kuvira might've killed her when Toph stopped the beam, but stood there exhausted? I just wanted to see Toph show us, for the last time, why she's the best Avatar character.
! Instead, she tells us she can't be bothered. And I'm not buying it, Toph LOVES to show off and there was a lot of ways to make her do that.
! But I can agree with above post - Toph, in a few seconds, showed us the biggest earthbending feat in all four seasons of Korra yet. Which says a lot about the show itself… We jumped from Aang creating a HUGE tornado himself and Bumi moving a stone the size of a house, to kids throwing small pebbles and sometimes, maybe, throwing together something larger. Seems like they're really going the way of old chinese movies, where it's always the old masters and their fighting styles that are better than the new ones... except this time we had a whole show about the old masters, years went by and now we're looking at the less impressive new masters.
! About Toph not stepping up to be a bad-ass once again. - Toph has been a bad-ass in ATLA more often than anyone (except maybe for Aang himself), and isn't it the whole point to making a new season with new characters to give these new characters the most screentime? I'm not watching Korra to see the old cast in action once again, for that I can always go and rewatch The Last Airbender. Toph shut down like 6 mechs to save the rescue party in the last moments of this episode, that should suffice for a bad-ass bonus.
! About Episode 10: Great episode. I really liked the small part where Kuvira and Suyin engaged in battle, the choreography looked great. And my prophecy about cyborg war is coming closer to being fulfilled with Asami and Varruk introducing the flying mech. Final Battle is going to be crazy futuristic.
Well, we learned the father of ONE of Toph's daughters. But they still didn't mention the other one.
Still pulling for it being Sokka.
still thinking that they being Family and no one reacting to it is a terrible idea.
Varik as a bastard son though…
Can we all agree that the Suyin vs Kuvira fight was the best fight of the season maybe even the series?
It was a really cool fight, yes. Not sure about best in the series though, the final battle between Korra and Zaheer was really awesome too.
I cringed when she put on the armor.. Terrible idea against a metalbender.
@Aru:
! Instead, she tells us she can't be bothered. And I'm not buying it, Toph LOVES to show off and there was a lot of ways to make her do that.
I think you missed the part of the show where it was implied that she grew cynical during her years working as chief of police for republic city. Her not giving a fuck anymore after so many years is in line with what we could assume to know about her.
So wether you buy that or not, fact of the matter is as it should be young Toph != old Toph, not the same.
Well I guess it's official. Kuvira>Suyin. So I guess the order is Toph>Kuvira>the Avatar>everyone else?
I cringed when she put on the armor.. Terrible idea against a metalbender.
Kuvira is wearing metal armor too though.
I liked the father part. With everyone giving so much importance to the identity of the girls fathers, it was pure gold to see Toph simply throw the information out treating it as nothing.
That aside, it was another weak episode in a weak season. Zhu Li's bit was the worse. EVERYONE knew she was betraying Kuvira, she was doing the thing. Even though it was completely obvious, it was something to look for because of what would come out of it… but in the end, nothing came. Zhu Li working for Kuvira had no effect of any kind, the consequences of her sabotage were undone in 5 minutes. It was like the producers actually thought the big thing there was revealing Zhu Li was actually not on Kuvira's side, like they actually thought no one saw through that and they had fooled the fans. Or they simply didn't plan ahead and that was just one of the many things this season that seem to be introduced without any real purpose.
And, yeah, see Toph going out without doing anything was terribly underwhelming. I am sure everyone, just like me, couldn't wait for the moment she would step in and do the most awesome shit, but instead it was just "you give metalbenders a bad name". Also the part she mentions Katara sounded really forced or was just me? It didn't actually worked with the dialogue, it was more like the writers trying to justify something from the past when they found a chance for it than the character herself... but whatever. At least her daughters are always bosses when it comes to action time. And it's not like Toph is dead, so who knows? Maybe she will get another chance (I doubt, though).

It isn't better than the GoT version, tho.

I agree.
Now i can't get out of my head that Kuvira's Army could have just get up but they were so terrified of Toph that they didn't even dare to make a move.
Guard #1: What, they just tripped me? I'll just get back up and…
sees Toph
Guard #1: OH SHIT, IT'S TOPH! Oh god, oh god. Maybe if i don't move she will think i'm dead and won't metalbend my skull. Oh god, oh god. They say she once metalbended an entire airship. Please please please, i don't want to die.
Guard #1:...
Guard #1: Yep, just soiled myself.
I don't understand why you people want Toph to have a death scene.
What the hell is wrong with you and what show have you been watching the last decade?
And didn't Korra make it clear from the first episode that they wouldn't be having the old characters come in and handle everything?
I'd be pretty damn disappointed if Toph, Katara and Zuko just came in and manhandled all the problems for everyone like the uber level badasses we know them to be, or got "final moments" despite being basically just background characters in this series that would be completely unearned.
Okay, as usual I'm going to be a ray of sunshine about the last ep.
I LOVED IT (duh!)
-Sujin vs. Kuvira was really, really good.
-Toph having this ONE badass moment is good enough for me. I will be satisfied for the next decade.
Zuko's involvement did not give me even 10% of these feeeeelings.
-And Kuvira not even bothering to fight back to stop them from fleeing? DAYUM. Stunned and silenced by TOPH BEIFONG'S VERY PRESENCE.
-Damn everything about Toph was so feel-good. Even Bolin's fangirling.
-Toph
-Toph mentioning Katara was fanservice, and I gladly took it. I think we'd all want to see the oldies acknowledge each other. Plus it was a way for the writers to silence fans from wanting Toph to be part of the action.
Speaking of, plz plz plz have one tiny tiny scene at the end with Toph, Katara and Zuko interacting pleaaaaaase.
-Zhu Li's betrayal was expected, but I loved seeing her "be on the bad side" and make Verrick realize how much she did for him. Their reunion should be splendid.
-aaand um.. Toph.
Yo did Toph's previous husband appear in the comics at all?
THIS IS THE BEST.
I'm just gonna hire a guy so he follows me everywhere and riffs on whenever i burn someone.
Well, we learned the father of ONE of Toph's daughters. But they still didn't mention the other one.
Still pulling for it being Sokka.
Please God, let this be true.

Korra vs Zaheer was better imo.
Zaheer vs Tenzin was way better to,especially since we saw Tenzin schooling the guy.
Bo-Lin vs lava bending guy….i enjoyed a lot too.
Avatar Wan vs Vaatu as well.
grabs Femme's arm and dances in a circle yay. for happy time talk.
(everything's been said. I don't need to repeat)
Toph mentioned Katara? I need to watch again.
Also, "you people" and your sokka talk. rolls eyes
(yes that goes for you too, robby. :3 <3 )

^_____^!!!
Aghhh this season made me remember why I loved the Avatar universe so much. I'm going to be so sad when it's over.
And sorry, I'm with Robby on this one. Tokka ftw.
Currently catching up with Korra and has to come here to say how much I hate ep. 8
"Hey, let's spend 20mins on stupid recap because otherwise we wouldn't be able to fill season 4. I mean, we could put some actual story in there but who's watching korra for story anyway, right, right? Instead let's focus on all the bad relationship shit we've done!"
GRRRRRRR!!!
(But I always HATED recap eps, no matter which show.)

Yeah.. after posting I JUST started rereading this thread from where I left off and saw that whole clips ep debacle…
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Basically, that. 6 episodes in I'm like. . .that's it? The season's really gonna be like this? Yeah, Varrick has more screentime and it's golden, cause it's fucking Varrick, and Toph is the best female character ever created, but. . .everything feels so unerwhelming. Isn't this supposed to be the last season? The final Korra villain will be. . .Kuvira? For real? I had my complaints about how Zaheer feels a bit inconsistent to me, or his underlings a bit one-note, but look at their intro, with 4 incredible prison breaks, unique powers and designs, this huge "we are massive badasses and you ought to fear us NOW". . .And we go to Kuvira?
Kuvira and Su's son make for an awful villain couple, sorry. They have the combined charisma of an amoeba. Bolin not noticing for THREE years that the towns they've "freed" are actually massive slave cities with disidents thrown in concentration camps is incredible. Did no one in the fucking UN think of taking a look at these towns after being liberated? Was the only hint that Kuvira was nuts the fact she was amassing a bit too much power and getting a bit too cocky instead of, you know, actual proof that she's enslaving an entire country? No one noticed, no one?
Again, Kuvira's been doing this for 3 blasted years. Maybe the timeskip shouldn't have been so long, cause now it feels like this world is full of idiots if no one tried to do a single thing against her advances considering she's basically running the biggest slave parlor ever in here.
When did that happen? When was Korra too strong? Korra has either been a device used by villains or a very small mountain they need to climb. Every villain that has claimed its willingness to use the Avatar to their wishes, has succeeded. Every villain that has attempted to defeat, kidnap, manipulate or torture the Avatar, has succeeded. Once a plan is set in motion for Korra to fall, she falls. And multiple times (vs. Unalaq).
Are you seriously telling me what we needed NOW, during the last season, after such a long running lousy performance by Korra, was to weaken her?? No. She freaking needed a permanent power up so people would stop messing with the freaking Avatar and start taking Korra seriously, as a threat, as something you don't just nonchalantly make a part of your plans.
"For my plans to work, I'll need to manipulate and then kill the Avatar; oh, c'mon, it's Korra, I don't think it'll be that hard". Done.
"For my plans to work, we'll need to kidnap and poison the Avatar. No no, don't worry, it's not Aang; it's Korra". Done.
"Korra, I'll take your bending away, but don't worry, I'll save you for last, and there's nothing you can do to avoid it". Done.
"I have an army of thousands, but worry not, we'll bet the city on a mano a mano. Go into the Avatar state for all I care, I'll still defeat you. . .". Done.
No, Korra didn't need a 5 episode internal self-discovery trip ONLY to be weaker physically and mentally than she's ever been, and we need to go through MORE internal self-discovery so we'll end the series with a half-competent Avatar. "And from now on, Korra will be awesome and the best Avatar ever. . .too bad you won't see it!".
Zhu Li was part of a running gag that suddenly seemed to take an ugly and serious form with some sort of subliminal message on abusive relationships or something like that? And given a dramatic cliffhanger with Zhu Li doing the evil smirk "yess miss fascist zealot overlady, count me in to create a weapon of mass destruction".
That's as stupid as Sanji's nosebleeds becoming a key plot device. Maybe even worse.
Both Asami and Mako's scenes so far have seemed like leftovers they didn't know where to even put. They come and go and noone notices them, and they only awkwardly break an already not very strong narrative. They aren't doing a single thing for me.
Season 3, even with its problems (and it had problems), is miles better than these first 6 episodes of season 4. Season 4 so far is unengaging and uninteresting.
Maybe the next 3 episodes will make me crap my pants on the spot, but seeing how one of them is apparently a recap because of budget restraints and whatnot, it doesn't look that good.
…Can I marry you?
Nah, honestly, I totally agree with all of what you say.
Season 4 is cool and good, the clip show owned, Wu is cool, Kuvira is a serviceable Hitler-knockoff, the world needs more Varrick
"Do the Thing" intensifies….
! So, Kuvira built the Jet Alone, with an Eva-like weapon. Clever girl.
AGGHGHHHHH Hyped for the end.
Maybe in "celebration" of the whole avatar thingy ending, we should do a little award thing?
Like best chara, worst chara, most epic moment, worst moment, best relationship, worst relationship… stuff like that.
Trying to get some fun out of it and end the disagreements, maybe. Or make it worse, lol.
Holy crap, what an episode.
! Spirit vine weapon mounted on a 25-stories tall mech? Kuvira firing at Baatar Jr.'s location, sacrificing him to to kill Team Avatar and the rest? I'm interesting to see how they were able to survive this without some bullshit explanation next week.
! And despite the awesomeness, I can't help but feel like way too much happened this episode. They planned further preparations to engage in battle with Kuvira's army, made a plan to sabotage the weapon, head out only to find out the army has already advanced in Republic City territory, surrender the city, hatch a plan to kidnap Bataar Jr. and execute the whole damn thing within one minute, interrogate him, and then… that happened. I'm by no means against an action-packed episode, but this is the first time I kind of felt like they really needed to rush with some stuff to keep the season down to a certain amount of episodes.
Best character: Varrick.
I think we're done.
Worst chara: Varrick
Most epic moment: Do the thing!
Worst moment: Season 1 for having no Varrick
best relationship:Varrick and the world
worst relationship: Anyone who has no screentime with Varrick
stuff like that: Zhu Li, do the thing!
I think the creators have completely forgotten about Tenzin's fourth child, who should be a toddler by this point.
Bumi's lost weight tho
Man,i had crazy flashbacks to second season. I even started sweating.
Can't find the episode in HD,
!

He was namedroped and boatdroped today.

Spoiler analysis:
! Giant Evangelion Cannon Arm version of Vaatu Unalaq aside… Atleast what I could assume being Asami's company is now finally gone. But who's saying she doesn't have a plan B?
! Liked the tension in this episode, and Korra taking control again.
omg. no. stop over obsessing with characters. ><
I am loving this season, but I do believe that the order of the villains is still messed up. Kuvira just doesn't seem to be "heavy" enough to be the final villain. Amon, Kuvira, Zaheer and then Unavaatu would have made it flow a bit better.
Nitpicking? Yeah, but it is a little hard to accept that after roflstomping a giant dark spirit god, that some metalbending girl is the next level up. Eh, i'm probably caring too much.
Amon, Kuvira, Zaheer and then Unavaatu would have made it flow a bit better.
Zaheer's story arc pretty much has to come before Kuvira's though because of how much his actions destabilized the world.
