Has anyone else been reading this one? It's another manga with a strange setting, this time with ski jumping as main focus. The main character is a girl who is posing as his deceased twin brother to be able to some day compete in the Olympics, since there's no category for women's ski jumping (why that is eludes me, btw, even in real life).

So here we have a manga what started as a kind of a funny and cute gender bender story, but has taken some really dark turns in the latest flashback chapters surrounding the events that eventually led to the whole posing as her brother - scheme.

It's actually written by the guy who did Elfen Lied (Lynn Okamoto) so a dark turn shouldn't be too surprising…

But yeah, I've been reading it for a while now. So far I've really enjoyed it actually.

The main character is cute. This combined with her girlish nature does not help her to pass as a boy… But that's part of the fun. (not the cutest picture of her but I didn't want to spoil some fun stuff that happens later)[/hide]

Coming from the mangaka of Elfen Lied - uhg, I know, yes, - Nononono was, to my surprise, much better, both character and story wise. I could complain about the rare fanservice bits, but usually that fits into the natural flow of this manga.

And Kiriya is lots of fun.

Been reading this manga for quite a while. I enjoy it quite a bit - the ski-jumping parts are rather interesting - but I have to say that I'm disappointed with the latest chapter. There's always been some fanservice and I'm okay with that, but this chapter seemed to be pure fanservice with little to no plot progression.

In true Okamoto fashion, the fanservice in this manga is more discomforting than anything.

But that's what I'm not bumping the thread for. These last two chapters were pretty good. It'd be awesome if Kishitani made it all the way and landed correctly before falling.

I started reading this manga on a complete lark (heavy, heavy duty procrastination) and managed to get caught up. This is very much a manga by Elfin Lied's mangaka, which is to say it's pretty sick and disturbing (rape scene? why???????????) and also shamelessly over the top and ridiculous with people stabbing each other with knives and being in suicide cults over ski jumping. The backstory for the heroine is hands down one of the most absurd I've read in even in a sports manga and I couldn't manage it with a straight face, shit be bananas. That's not to say the parts about ski jumping (which really railroads a lot of the action let me tell you) aren't interesting enough but god Okamoto can't write worth shit if he has to resort to island death pact transvestites whose families will be killed if they don't jump past the K point oh no!!!!!!!. to create drama.

Uh, with all due respect to the folks who like this manga.
Also Kishitani is a disgusting human being for what he's tried to do to Nonomiya and he can fall on his neck for all I care.

And that's not even the worst part.

I like the parts where they ski jump (though Okamoto doens't need to make every SINGLE TEAM EVER have a goal they can only accomplish by WINNING DA COMPETITION!!!!!!11111one), but that weird creepy rapey fetish junk can go die in a fire.

Also it's a gold mine for reaction images.

Yeah, this is all kinds of f*d up. I actually would've liked a manga just about the ski jumping, honestly. Some people over at mangafox are pretty adamant that it would never get off the ground like that, though, and there HAS to be sick weird stuff to add "interest" to it. I disagree, though, since the actual skijump parts are pretty well researched and nicely done. But it's all this other stuff like you mentioned with creepy characters and ridiculous backstories that keeps me from getting too fond of this manga. I mean, does every single character have to be a walking mass of complexes and have some kind of twisted tragedy secret?

The ending was rushed, but there's not much else Okamoto could have done; gotta give him credit for not beating the dead horse.

! I'm a bit miffed that that plot point with Yuuta never got resolved, though.
! The body found at the scene was confirmed to be female. I figured that it was the art teacher and that Yuuta had gone off on his own.

And yes, it's about as shitty as his usual shit.
The comedy parts are somewhat amusing, but all his dramaaa parts are retarded.
Full of pointess softporn and violence though, much like Elfen Lied.
