Apparently, this is starting to appear in Japan (dunno if it was there before):
and yeah, my reaction is this when I saw it:
!
Why are they particular against fansubs?

Fuck 'em.
Probably a similar reason they got pissed about people Scanlating mangas. Why buy DVDs when you get can just download/watch them on the internet for free?
From what I've seen Japan can be very anal about their stuff. When Greg taped (illegally of course) a bit of Movie 10 and briefly put the clip on Youtube for the world to see, there were people on 2ch who were beside themselves that a foreigner would do such a thing, whereas if a Japanese person had done that, but not made it available to outsiders, they wouldn't have been that peeved about it. (or at least that was the jist that I got)

Plus since DVDs in Japan are so goddamned expensive.

It's like they're targetting the wrong people if you ask me. I mean, they don't even air anime here on the local tv so there's no profit to obtain in most of the european countries and I doubt that many people in JP would record anime shows solely for the purpose of providing the raws to the fansubs.
So why again are the fan-subbers the evil guys here?
because Japanese people (their primary market) can find the fansubs, ignore the subs and watch the show for free? not to mention that those four languages represent the four largest markets internationally for anime.
Heh, they aren't stopping anyone :V

Well you have a point there sir but it's futile because they still wouldn't be able to stop the source of the problem.
yeah dude, I'm sure they slapped up a sign in a train or a retail shop or wherever that photo is taken and said "THATS A JOB WELL DONE, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"
Good luck with that, broskis
I know that everyone here who watches fansubs is helping in destroying the business, but frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn

This is why we need Anime and manga given to us in a similar time frame to Japan. Even if it's a week after Japan, I'd take it. But right now, it's more like half a year, in some cases. If Japan wants the communities outside Japan to buy the product, then they need to actually sell it in a decent time frame.

If wasn't for the fan-subbers, I would "never" know about One Piece like I know today, and about others animes.

Here, since there's no incentive to One Piece progress, we are like in… the first fifty episodes... Though the Dvds must be somewhere around the 100th episode.
Naruto is stuck too, last time I watched it here it was somewhere before episode 80~. But it's a good thing.:ninja:
jamjam's picture is from a few years ago, actually.
But yes, it's exactly as stephen says.
Fansubs have been dying out in the past couple of years I think. because of CR and Funi

Yeah, noticed and removed it. This thread can be locked and thrown away now :ninja:
I find the fansub backlash funny, especially when Kadokawa (as in the president of Kadokawa Shoten) actually publically said that fansubs helped out a lot in terms of getting recognition of their titles out there.
