OFFICIAL PREDATOR THREAD

I did an Advanced Search for Thread titles with the keyword "Predator" and all I got was 2 threads about an upcoming Alien vs. Predator 2 film and a possible Alien vs. Predator 3 film, respectively.

As such, I thought that I would begin the Official Predator Thread, where you can discuss not just the latest 2010 movie Predators, but also the original 1987 Predator movie and it's 1990 sequel, Predator 2.

you can share your opinions not only about the movies, but also about the Predator creature itself, as well as any sequels you would like to see continued from where Predators left off.

Although the Predator does appear in the two crossover films, Alien vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, I kinda want to leave those out and have this thread just focus on the Predators OWN Universe.

And now, the 3 Predator Films.

Once you've seen what the predator looks like, there's not a whole lot more to it. The sequals never upped the ante like Aliens did, so…

nobody really cares.

Original was a decent Arnie flick though.

I disagree on that one. The sequel (2) introduced new weapons, showed the Predators growing interest in human prey, showed healing methods, ability to conform to new surroundings, expanded visions in helmet and displayed a possible honor system were the killer of a Predator was rewarded with a trophy of his own.
The 3rd movie didn't really explore the Predators culture that much and was a general disappointment but at least it was learned that there are two clans in power and possible insight to how there culture works (perhaps whatever clan does the best in the hunts gets power in their "government").

One thing that stood out in the third film that was a shame is the lack of other species being hunted. At the end of Part 2, we saw an trophy wall filled with the bones/skulls of many different prey and I was hoping that we'd get to see some other prey besides humans(that one alien was okay but died too soon)

Anyone play the game Concrete Jungle(Xbox/PS2)? It was very enjoyable if you're into the series.

I also thought predator 2 was good.

They took the concept and put it into a different environment with a variance of different outcomes. Pretty much what Z said. New weapons, development on the culture and behaviors of the species.

Predators was decent. I'd give it a C+. It did justice to the source material and didn't make things too comical and ridiculous (see AvP). Good acting from the cast and the action was alright. I did like:

[hide] how the female from the military knew what a predator was upon seeing it's face, as she had been briefed on the report given by none other than Dutch (arnie) after his fateful encounter in the first film. I'd have liked more, but it was a good nod and I wasn't expecting it. Refreshing that since the damn guys have been around for so long, we'd at least have an IDEA of what they are [/hide]

it's too bad that the movie didn't really advance the series in any way aside from a few tidbits here and there.

I'd kill for a proper sequel… but imma wait for Predators (watching it on monday before I lay down some judgment)

I will say this thou, I'm incredibly biased towards Robert Rodriguez's work...

I love everything the man has done sans Spy Kids.

So I'm walking into this one with huge Robert Rodriguez expectations moreso than Predator expectations (and let's be honest, that movie was great but it was cheesy as hell when viewed years later).

The Arnold/Carl armshake flex scene is laughably manly and bad... yet epic O_o?

I read the 4 issue comic mini-series that was released as a prequel to the film a few days ago. The mini-series was pretty decent, and fro, what I've heard, the new film is good as well.

Also, Predator 2 was lackluster.

I don't know why people hate on Predator 2 so much. It has a Predator cauterizing an arm stump with melted tile pieces.

The Alien vs Predator movies were an abomination, although 1 was better than 2 (can't see shit).

I just saw Predators today and sort of liked it, maybe because I had pretty low expectations after AvP.

Adrien Brody was pretty miscast though. At the start he was okay because he was just playing a dick, but nearing the end he was supposed to be this super badass and well, he needs to eat more.

Also here's some Predator comics, Omnibus volumes 1-4. I just started reading the first and hey, you can never have enough Predators.

I've only seen the original and Predators. I enjoyed both of them, though throughout Predators, I had this stuck in my head.

I liked the reference to Schwarzenegger's encounter with the Predator in the original, and though some of the special effects in this were cheesy (particularly the explosion effects) and the commercials exaggerated the number of predators (it looked like there were going to be dozens; in reality, there were four), I'm glad I saw it.
