@Reyairia:
Humans are still oppressing fishmen. It's not like it's still not happening.
It's not comparable to what was going on Skypeia. Shandians were being moved off their own land and were facing death otherwise. Fishmen/Merfolk are not facing forced relocation. They're being enslaved by some humans.
We know they face constant discrimination, and we know that pirates still try to kidnap seafolk - look at Caribou. Hodi could have come to believe that the only way to prevent seafolk slavery is to do the same to humans. We don't know enough about Hodi to assume he's a completely evil character.
That just proves he's a dumbass and if anything father separates any comparison to Wiper and the problems the Shandian had.
I never said anything about Hodi being completely evil. If anything my posts would imply otherwise and an understanding for what he may have gone through on what led him to where he is now. I'm not arguing if Hodi is evil. I'm saying he's not comparable to Wiper.
No he wasn't, the Skypeians lived pretty peacefully - it was only when they took out their weapons to reclaim the Vearth that they got attacked. They were purposely looking for the trouble, and attacked the skypeians in guerilla style. Wiper just randomly attacked the Strawhats for no reason, what would keep him from attacking a group of Skypeians
Now this is fucked up. You take my land. I go to take it back and now you got the nerve to say I don't have the right to reclaim what's mine? We're the ones looking for trouble after you stole from us?
You can not justify such idiocy.
That's like saying that the Native Americans would be justified in using violence against whites today because they know that no amount of diplomacy and talks will get them their land back.
No no no. The indigenous ppl of what is now called America being killed and forced from their land happened centuries ago. If they decided to wage war with America they'd have legitimate reason to do so.
Of course they'd lose.
I recently did, thank you very much.
It's difficult to compare the two because you forget that Fishman Island has just started. In Skypeia you could get from Wiper attacking the SHs to getting the Shandian backstory in one day. We're only getting chapters weekly, it's easy to judge chapter by chapter, when I'm sure that if that were the case with Skypeia everybody would be calling Wiper some evil asshole who attacks innocents. When we look at Skypeia as a whole arc, we know better. We don't with Fishman Island.
I'm sorry but as of now Hodi is no different than Arlong. Hodi himself said he looked up to Arlong. Even if we get a back story for Hodi (most likely Fisher Tiger) there's not going to be anything that justifies "Fishmen are superior to humans" I don't care if it's revealed that Hodi's parents were raped and killed in front of him by humans and then they made him eat them.
Regardless of that, this argument you're making can be made for Arlong as well. So you're just helping me prove how alike the two of them are.
Didn't take a genius to see through the Shandians situation on Skypeia either. It's not like we got the flashback and all understood the full story. Didn't change much for why he was doing what he did.
No, but actions speak louder than words, and he was completely willing to kill Conis. Even if he never said that Shandians were superior to Skypeians, he showed that belief when he was willing to kill any Skypeians he saw.
This is complete bullshit and a failure to understand when someone is fighting to protect themselves and their people and fighting for their and their people's rights.
Going around fighting/killing the ppl who are trying to take your land does NOT IN ANY WAY mean that you think you or your race are superior to them. That's the most dumbest assumption I've ever heard. It makes no sense and just isn't applicable to the numerous real world situations where this has happened throughout history. That is a huge leap in logic and seems you're reaching extra hard to make your point which reasonably can not be made.
I would like for you to explain why you think this. Exactly why do you think that saying "actions speak louder than words" somehow means that if I fight and kill my oppressor that means I think that my race is superior to them.
