Marvel's success probably drives them all up the wall.

I think they’re over that. Especially when you remember that not every thing Marvel’s done on the live action side has been stellar. And I’m not just alluding to Inhumans.
-
I mean at this point a Beyond movie would have been pretty redundant. It wouldn't have been Keaton's return to the role(That would be Flash) and if things had gone as planned, it wouldn't have been his first time as an aged hero training a successor(Batgirl).
Having him in newer films outside of Beyond first kind of ruins the idea of being reintroduced to an aged, bitter, and physically incapable Batman allowing a very different young hero to take up the cowl in his place.
-
That’s the tried and true method in superhero films of introducing characters in film.
Introduce them in other works where they’re supporting characters or glorified cameos instead of putting them in their own solo work first which you will then do awkwardly after the fact.
And yes while I’m aware giving a solo film to a character especially one not familiar to the general audience is a risk to say nothing of it being redundant if you’re doing it with a number of characters who’re apart of group with the idea that this is to setup another movie where they all come together.
It’s still something to snark at.
Also hoping that Jason Momoa Lobo news is bullshit as that would be weird.

Anyone that is not close to a trailer is not going to get any traction on their draft, treatment or any other type of development. They are attempting to map out the next 10 years through Safran and Gunn.
THR is making sure to word everything carefully and so are the other reputable media sites. The lesser ones will do as they tend to do and get the reactions they want.
Wonder Woman isn't dead. Patty is just done. She presented a version of WW3 while Safran and Gunn have to submit their initial version of a "Bible"/road map next week. This is the worst time to do this. She got criticized and is backing out. If anything, she shouldn't have went to De Luca and Abdy (if that is fact). She should have communicated with the 2 new creative heads of DC.
I can also see it from the other side. She's been working on that treatment for almost 2 years and the announcement was last month. She's used to being priority and reporting to Warner Films (De Luca and Abdy). Why should she axe her treatment or backpedal on it because Warner is constantly in flux?
The Beyond idea, WW3, the Superman treatment that was presented, etc are all going to get similar reception. Best to hit up Safran and Gunn for communication purposes and hold off. It's more about Warner not communicating to their creatives that things are rapidly changing than "your whole idea won't work, try again".
Question is, will Gal do WW3 w/o Patty? Are the producer of Superman and Henry down to wait for the road map?
I think the more popular first reaction to these kind of things is "yeah, it sucks or wouldn't work". Yet, if an idea one likes get similar treatment, the reaction is "what's wrong with Warner". Ideas that "don't work" have received films and sequels.
Truth is that this is the worst time to try and be stubborn over a script when those you are presenting it to are not even sure what the plan is. On top of all of that, doubling down on the treatment not having flaws (again, if true).
-
Right, but there is a difference between something like having Black Widow show up in Iron Man 2, then retconning your Batman, having a (now scrapped) film about a younger person taking up the mantle(Batgirl) and then doing that exact same story again with Beyond.
That's my point on the redundancy.
And hey, I completely doubt it given the rest of the shit show going on at WB, but maybe part of the idea of dumping Batgirl WAS because they thought they could make more with a theatric Beyond film and didn't think they could have both.
At the end of the day though, I still think having Keaton come back outside of a Beyond film was a mistake, and a fumbled idea trying to salvage a connected universe Batman after Affleck started going through shit and was unsure on returning.
-
Thankfully, Gunn and Reeves both have debunked that The Batman will be part of the DCU.
I really dislike this stretch for everything to be connected. A shared universe is cool when done right, but trying to make everything that is standalone, part of it is just distasteful. Certain stories should be allowed to live in their Elseworld.
A History of Violence, Watchmen, Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, V For Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Road To Perdition (both by Fox) all came out at the same time and didn't have to be part of some DC universe.
-
I think my main concern is getting a new Batman that actually gives us a Bat Family. I'm not looking forward to yet another "lol no Robins or Batgirls" continuity. Gimme Stephanie! Gimme Cass, Bruce's fuckin adopted daughter!
-
Trying to connect a History Of Violence, TLOEG, V for Vendetta, & Road To Perdition would’ve been hella weird.
-
Brandon Routh is probably having a long, long phone call with Cavill right now. God, what a shitshow. He nuked his career for this role and now this?
Anyway, it was the smart decision to start from scratch, it's just a shame they fucked over an actor who never got a fair shake.
-
Here for when Gunn announces that Ben will finally get to direct a Batman film. Reeves won that opportunity last time around. Now Gunn might be bringing it back full circle with a Bruce closer to Clark's age with Ben guiding it.
I'm also tired of Lex, Darkseid, and Doomsday as the main antagonist. The 100 (Tobias), Intergang (Bruno), Livewire, Maxima, Parasite, Bloodsport, Toyman. A lot of villains to drum up engaging conflict. The spamming of Kryptonite and matching his strength is exhausting too.
Clark has other infirmities to expose. Radiation, drugs, his hearing, etc.
-
Yeah I don’t think we need to copy Spider-Man 2’s thing of the hero’s personal problems are starting to affect his powers.
Plus I was under the pretense people hated that when they did that in the New 52.
-
@Cockycent Brainiac, man. I can't believe he hasn't been used yet.
-
@Riddler See what i'm saying. Bruce and Clark have over 80 years of storylines. They keep rehashing the same 6-8 elements when there's so much more.
How has a live action film not been centered around Brainiac yet? That is wild.
-
@Time-Control-Magician I don't think he needs to be going through some internal struggle to take advantage of his already sensitive hearing or the multiple times radiation was used against him.
Even tho I mentioned the more effective drugs, there are times where telepathy and electricity has gotten the best of him.
Yeah, none of that requires some extra dilemma where he's distracted or vulnerable to inner turbulence. Off topic because this isn't a Marvel thread, but Raimi 2 is cinema.
-
Poor Henry. You can argue if he was a good Supes or not, but it's a shitty way to go.
-
Could be worse he could’ve been one and done like Ryan Reynolds and then have people hold that against him.
-
Oooooh, fans aren't too happy about Henry Cavill.

I wonder if he regrets leaving The Witcher by now.
-
Well, it's said that he had creative differences, so I don't think the narrative that he left for DC is true. Plus, his possible film wouldn't have start to film until late 2023. I don't think giving up Witcher would help him be ready for a Superman film anyway.

Word on the street he’s going to be starring in and exec producing A Warhammer Live Action series for Amazon.
So doubtful……not to mention with the state Netflix is in shit would’ve gone down eventually even if he stayed.
-
@Riddler Well, it's confirmed now. After Warner Films verbally agreed to a Man of Steel sequel for Henry, the Steven Knight treatment had Brainiac as the main antagonist.
This was before Safran and Gunn were chosen and once Rock got Warner to include Superman in his film. It is being reported that Hamada (former head of DC) wanted Henry to return way later down the line and that was the hold up possibly.
-
It also looks like Gadot and Cavill were cut from The Flash, which makes me wonder if they'll also be cut from Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
What a fascinating turn of events this is becoming.
-
And just when we thought the Ezra Miller disaster tour and Zaslev write off fest was confusing.
-
You can argue about Cavill, but Gadot is THE Wonder Woman, you can't just write her off.
That's what a fan would think, anyway. Would the DC/WB higher ups think so? I doubt it.
-
@Satsuki said in DC Movies Thread - Shazam saves the day:
you can't just write her off.
Why not?
Batgirl & Scooby Doo have already fallen before the awesome might of write offs. Now it’s Wonder Woman’s turn.
(And yes I know Wonder Woman’s not in danger of this fate).
-
Uh oh, looks like The Rock isn't too pleased either . . .

@Satsuki The individual that started it, apologized, deleted his tweets, and corrected it.
Rock was never following those accounts to begin with. Thing is, once it's out there, it's true forever.
I think it's weird to monitor who likes or unfollows someone. It's not like a quote tweet that just stumbled onto your timeline.
Then, for the person to have never even followed the account in the 1st place means that you were searching for that result anyway to add to the already toxic pile on.
I wonder why one would be doing that. People aren't satisfied with the shows and films. They need to add drama that doesn't exist.
-
Like our world wasn't dramatic enough.

Leslie gave us a look at what her finished Batgirl suit would have looked like:

But now it's lost.
-
That looks like a pain to move in but at least she can turn her neck lol.
Come on Hollywood, learn from Super Sentai and Kamen Rider!
-
To be fair with super sentai you’re working on a budget so you can afford cheap looking costumes
-
Leslie also gave us a (very long) montage that included a couple looks at how Brendan Fraser would have looked like as Firefly:
https://movieweb.com/batgirl-footage-reveals-another-look-at-brendan-fraser-as-firefly/?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_campaign=EchoBox&utm_medium=Social-Distribution&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwAR1lGb4nNVgCNy8Ij0FkdAxe7COJMdl--WnJ7R9YgOxOp413CXyzgHM9D3A#Echobox=1672758368If this is a sneaky way to move behind the studio and get more fan-approval of it . . . I'm down.

Super-hyped for the Bat-Family finally coming to theatrical films. This is going to be so awesome!
-
5 films, 5 series for chapter 1. I didn't expect that much.
Paradise Lost, Creature Commandos, and The Authority automatically stick out. They should have done more Wildstorm adaptations a long time ago.
The Paradise Lost series description has my attention. Political intrigue, pre Diana's birth, and the ugly truths behind their society. Even threw in "GoT ish".
Creature Commandos leading the animated series front.
“Animation will lead into live action and back into animation. It’s a way to tell stories that are gigantic and huge without spending $50M an episode.Gunn has written this, it’s done. Creature Commandos is comprised of military superhumans including a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster and a gorgon.
Gunn pointed out that Weasel from his Suicide Squad will be on the show. This band of misfits were introduced in Weird War Tales #93 (November 1980), created by J. M. DeMatteis and Pat Broderick.
Elseworlds still going too
- Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie a Deux
- Matt Reeves’ Batman sequel and HBO Max Penguin series
- J.J. Abrams’ and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Black Superman project
All of the 4 films this year will be part of the continuity. With the Ezra casting being a TBD lol
Got Slater from Doom Patrol as part of the writing team.
"Bible/rules"
1 - Anyone cast on the DC TV side as a character will also respectively play that character on the film side.
2 - No one actor will play two parts. Hence, Momoa is Aquaman going forward, not Lobo.
Gunn on Zachary Levi’s recent controversial tweet
“I can't be changing my plans all the time because an actor says something that I don't agree with.
Actors and filmmakers that I work with are going to say things that I agree with and things that I don't agree with.”
I'll wait and see if any of it is executed well as usual.
-
Who knows, maybe this really is what DCU needed....a cohesive plan and a new slate as a shot in the arm.

Guess Evangeline Lilly couldn’t be the only idiot dabbling in conspiracy theories.

Why are all my favorite actors doing this to me . . .

His dad died a couple of days ago, apparently. I'm willing to forgive him a few instances of saying some stupid stuff right now.
It's also ok to still like an actor/celebrity even if you disagree with some of his or her views. I understand feeling disappointment when someone you like says or does something you think is stupid or wrong, but imo maybe we are sometimes a little too obsessed with people having to share our own opinions in order for us to support or like them. I wouldn't want to have a job where I constantly feel like I can only openly voice opinions that are deemed acceptable by everyone else or else I might be shunned and lose my job.
I don't envy celebrities, they are expected to be active on social media and voice their support for moral causes but as soon as they voice an opinion or thought the majority of their fans might disagree with, they get bombarded with hate. The smartest ones are those who just stay off social media completely and just ignore whatever happens there.
-
The fact that he LED with " Creature Commandos" tells me all I need to know. We're in good hands.
(I have no attachment to the title, but they started with something wierd instead of Batman or Supes)
I mean, the guy is 5 for 5 for good comic adaptations so far, so that was already a known factor, so...
-
Must be so hard, having so much fuck-you money that you can say whatever you want and never worry about needing to work another day in your life.
-
It's still devastating when your parents die no matter how rich and or famous you are. C'mon now.
-
I didn't say they can can say (or do) whatever they want, just that they have the same right as everyone else to form and voice their own opinion. Being rich and famous doesn't equal happiness and it certainly doesn't mean famous people don't deserve to be treated with basic human decency or aren't allowed certain rights.
Anti-vaccination sentiments are usually ill-founded, but at the same, a little mistrust of pharmaceutical companies usually isn't. From what I can tell, Levi didn't say anything to crass or extreme, even if I disagree with his statements. I don't think any hate directed at him is warranted right now, but some people just don't seem to know how else to respond to a different opinion.
-
Levi is also an unapologetic Jordan Peterson stan who had nothing to say when Joe Rogan of all people pointed out to his face that Peterson is transphobic as hell.
It's not as bad as the stuff Ezra Miller is in hot water for. I think they need to be jettisoned from the new DCU way faster than Levi, but the things people have a problem with Levi for aren't nothing.
-
I don't hate Levi. I'm just so disappointed . . .

Even if he is a state of grief that’s no excuse to be parroting anti vaccine wooo shit.
People get killed because of this idiocy.
-
I am very pro vaccines / pro science and took every single one that was offered to me and urged those of my family who were sceptical of covid vaccines to take it.
I STILL think this current attitude where we condemn anyone who has fears or doubts about vaccines as almost being the devil is very silly. It's doesn't lead to anywhere.
People also get killed because of their own idiocy. There has to be a middle road here.
edit: but then again these are just the ramblings of a sorta-kinda centrist trying to yell against a rising tide so carry on
